Anyone point me to PDF showing food service available in first class.
Looking to travel 23/1/26 Newark to London
Was hoping for full LNER breakfast

Seems to have gone missing (I am looking for 15/12), and the existing one is of little use (but it does show most southbound services around breakfast time (0640-0815 ex Leeds, similarly from Newcastle and Edinburgh).

gone are the days of a lovely roast turkey dinner with all the trims onboard a class 225 on the dine menu, it seems LNER are largely something in a box to eat these days..

Considering the offering on GWR and especially on EMR ... I personally think the 1st class on LNER is rather good ..

Run down EMR offer the joy of drinking out of Paper Cups and have closed all of their 1st Class Lounges.

Avanti (in a previous guise) gave me a bottle of water when I was travelling between Birmingham New Street and Birmingham International.

Hi, this is my first post here.

Welcome

I use East Coast Train quite often from Doncaster to Edinburgh and sometimes I can get the cheaper Advance First Class ticket. Before the only reason to pay little more is the free wifi (sadly, sometimes it is very slow). Now, it seems the free meal sounds very attarctive to me.

May I ask some question:
1. The Advance First Class ticket with Rail card will be ok to get the free meals?

2. I will have these two bought Flirst Class trips: Doncaster to Edinburgh 11:10-14:18 of 23 May; and Edinburgh to Doncaster 18:30-21:38 of 26 May. What kinds of food I can get for each trip?

Dish or Deli menu - it will appear on the booking page eventually (w/c 15 Dec is loaded but isn't typical) but you can't even book those dates.
There isn't an 1110 in the new timetable, but currently most Saturday trains are Deli menu - Dish if you're lucky. 1830 Tuesday I would expect Dish.

3. How does the service staff decide which type of meal to provide? according to the passenger's train ticket departing time or?

According to their instructions.

4. Can I get the wine service after noon during the trip but my trip departing time is earlier?

Last Friday it was the dish menu from Edinburgh onwards (dine from Leeds to Edinburgh). It was an early lunch but they were offering bacon rolls in addition - seemed like a fair compromise.

Unfortunately, all the public facing information now ignores the distinction if the menu changes en route. In the past LNER published a full timetable that specified which menu was served from each station on each service. More recently they've just published a summary list of times and headcodes that allocates a single option to each service. So, to give one recent example, I travelled north from Newcastle on 1S19 which the summary list describes as a Dine train. Also, when I booked the ticket via the LNER website it said you'll be served the Dine menu, and then before I travelled the app also notified me that I'd be served the Dine menu.

In reality, the chef comes off at Newcastle so it's not available, and in this instance they were offering the Deli menu as they'd run out of hot food completely!

The downloadable list has now disappeared completely from the website. Given the changeover of Christmas menu and a substantial timetable rewrite looming, perhaps it will reappear in the new year?

Did Newark to Edinburgh and back on a different day this week.

Morning brunch service on the 0946 from Newark.

Straight around for a food and drink order (sadly just a bacon roll but it did the job, nicely toasted bun too), did further runs after York and Newcastle. Pleasantly surprised to have 2 alcoholic drink services on this train that straddles the serving times as well as at least 3 hot drinks and the usual range of snacks, water etc. Not bad at all and friendly staff.

Going back was the 1400 from Edinburgh. Orders taken immediately on departure, as well as making it clear you could wait until later. Festive menu was on - had the croque which was very much like in appearance and taste to a Costa Coffee toastie, nice enough. At least 3 or 4 cold drinks runs plus plenty of coffee etc, biscuits, crisps, pudding pot.

Thought it perfectly good and enjoyed the journey both ways.

What was the spin on EMR closing their Lounges?

Well your dealing with Transport UK here...the 1st class run down merchants (removed from the bulk of Great Anglia - and not every Liverpool Str / Norwich conveys 1st)

On London Northern Western just abandoned 1st

On EMR declassified the 360s between London and Corby

Then Just Closed the 1st lounges at Pancras, Leicester, East Midlands and all the others

And what is left of an onboard 1st class just run down with Paper Cups ...

Festive Menu lands on 3 December though interestingly with a twist. From 3 December to 19 December they're continuing with the full breakfast service on Dine trains but lunch and evening menus on Dine, Dish and Deli are immediately reduced. It doesn't say when normal service resumes but I'd assume 6 January as that's when the mincemeat desert option ceases to be available.

Not great, not terrible. Festive Menu has been much worse in the past.

Sorry, I disagree (aside from brekkie) - at least for my personal tastes (don't like cheese unless it's on pizza). If you don't want your meat with cheese then you're completely out of luck apart from breakfast. Guess I'm packing huntsman's pie this evening!

Furthermore where is the fruit? They've often been surprisingly bad at providing it, but I don't see any even listed? Are they giving up on providing bananas and clementines now? It's usually what I get tbh - when they actually have them. I don't understand why they're hard to provide.

I also do wish they'd make clear that the things they claim come with butter don't. They come with a butter and vegetable oil blend, that is perfectly suitable for cooking but not spreading on things (I'm aware lots of people do buy so-called spreadable butter but lots of people do all sorts of things). Sometimes the fruit juice is watered down too (Tropicana light type stuff) which I don't mind at all but I am worried it could easily turn into "juice drinks" easily with sweeteners which I absolutely hate (see also the pepsi).

Looking at the pictures I reckon there has been an error, because there seems to be a pie on signature not listed in the main list, alongside a hot dessert. Additionally the chicken tagine seems to be on both, so the pie maybe is the chef prepared thing.

As well as the disappearance of the deli menu, the brunch menu has gone too. All round, probably better as it means the catering on ex deli and brunch services will be up a notch.

I can't see the tagine on the Deli menu?

I do agree there's a hot desert on that photo but not in the menu

The PDF menus, linked at the top of each page, appear correct - I'd rely on them.

Full LNER is on the Signature menu, along with the pie and the treacle sponge pudding for lunch/dinner. Dine has both chicken tagine and croque monsieur for hot meals.

Glad they're bought the PDFs back online - much more helpful than the list. Seems the PDF of what menu is on what services is gone for good though.

N.B. The tagine is 'available Monday to Friday and only on selected services', but these don't seem to be defined anywhere so it's an element of potluck.
