Walsall 1 ... Oldham Athletic 2

Something of a shock result in this mid-week fixture as table-topping Walsall with home advantage were expected to consolidate top spot over lower-middle team Oldham, but were 1-0 down at half time, then equalised early in the second-half only for Oldham to score the winner, six minutes into added-on time.

Walsall have now dropped to third place as a result of other matches played tonight and this is the fourth league match that Oldham remained undefeated, with two wins and two draws.

Stockport County 4 ... Doncaster Rovers 2

Stockport needed a result tonight after losing two of their last three league matches and were only drawing 1-1 at half time then 2-2 mid way in the seconf half, but then scored two more goals to give the scoreline a better look.
This result sees Stockport in fourth place, but sadly, it was Doncaster's fifth league defeat in a row.

Anyone watching the Big Match Revisited programmes on ITV4?

Currently on 75/76, Just before my time. QPR have been featuring a lot. Didn't they have a really good team that season? - Parkes, Givens, Bowles, Webb, McLintok, Francis, Masson, Hollins, etc. The one who stood out for me was Dave Thomas - a really good winger.

Parkes was great for us at WestHam. Realistically he was too good for us but he was part of the team that finished 3rd. We was banned from Europe so I will never know if we would have drawn some big team. No champions league back then and still bitter of missing out the big clubs.

A professional, comfortable win in the freezing cold against an awkward team on a horrible 4G pitch. 2-0 up after 20 minutes and no real alarms after that.

A good performance that perhaps deserved a point but not to be. Beaten by the league leaders and best side I have seen. A class apart. Should be champions

Yeovil Town 1 - 1 Eastleigh

Decent journey and really strong away support. Over 200 away fans made the journey. Freezing cold match, but unfortunately, Eastleigh were unable to really get into gear. A few decent chances, and a fortuitous penalty awarded to us deep in added time in the first half. My first time at Huish Park, and I must say it is a really smart little stadium. Also, my fourth away trip with the Spitfires to end the year.

I have some football related questions, which may mix things up from the usual match report:

1) who here plays football? Not necessarily for a team; it could simply be recreationally, whether that be 6-a-side kick about games, or anything really, even if occasionally.

2) for those who don't, when did you last play football, and would you consider playing (even if only on an occasional or one-off basis), if a suitable opportunity arose?

3) how many people here have ambitions to one day visit all current football league grounds, and how far are you with that aim?

1. I've never played in an organized football match as I was hopeless. The only sport I've played competitively is ping pong where I've played against Vauxhall teams in both the Luton and Ellesmere Port Leagues. I'm not counting chess, bridge, darts or dominoes as sports.

2. Not at my age.

3. I've seen Football League or Premier League, or cup ties as FL/PL clubs, on every ground used as such since 1963, the only exception being Maidstone United at Dartford (which still irks me). This includes obscure places like Dorchester and the Odsal, Withdean & Don Valley stadia - some 165 venues in all (counting the major rebuilding/realignments at Tottenham & Bournemouth as significant enough for these to count as new grounds). I've never attempted to count the number of non-league grounds I've been to, but it's been many hundreds since Bradford were kicked out of D4 in 1970. I've also seen over 100 foreign games plus a fair few in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The early part of the 2001/2 season. I saw Bournemouth beat Wigan 2-0 in from of 2,908 in League Division 2 (now League One).

Leeds manage a 6th game unbeaten. Dragged Liverpool down to our level somewhat, but a point is a point. Leeds maintain an acceptable gap to the relegation zone.

Manchester United come to Elland Road on Sunday, which I’m very much looking forward to considering recent performances at ER.

Sunderland 0-0 Manchester City

One of the better, more entertaining 0-0 draws I've seen.

Sunderland managed to push City back a bit in the first half, and might have scored through Brobbey and Hume, but the second half was a magnificent backs to the wall defensive effort. Mukiele and Alderete brilliant at centre half, Trai Hume (who cost 65 grand) a revelation in a part midfield part defence role. Not a single bad performance.

Erling Haaland utterly anonymous, and apparently Sunderland are the only premier league team he's played against and not scored. But I suppose its hard to score when you spend the game in Nordi Mukiele's pocket

A scrappy game, but a decent point for Leeds who played a vastly superior team on paper with a depleted team. Other results went our way so we’ve put more distance between us and relegation. Sadly the atmosphere wasn’t up to recent standards, probably due to the silly kick off time and poor quality of the game.

The worst 45 minutes of Sunlun’s season, a bit better for the first half of the second half, then I suspect Reggie reminded the players “hey, it’s only Spurs lads”. Cue a good equaliser, Spurs going a bit Spursy, Bentacur trying to be even more horrible than Richarlison, and a draw

But at least Fulham got something back with that late goal, although no doubt the fans will be complaining the ref should have blown his whistle before they could score, as they travel back home on the district line

Ruben Amorim has departed his role as head coach of Manchester United.

Ruben was appointed in November, 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.

With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.

The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.

Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday.
