it definitely wasn’t the 5 but quite confident there was an LRT bus that did cover the area.
Maybe 17 or 47. As I’ve said it was only for a short period.
The 17 ran for a time from Granton via Broughton Street to join the 16 before going up Oxgangs Farm.

I mentioned earlier some Limited Stop Services to Oxgangs in the 70s (decade and number range).

I remember my closest, the 73, between Sighthill terminus and the city centre. Also the 70 which went from Westburn to the city centre, potentially along part or all of West Approach Road.

From memory, others were 71 and 72 to Oxgangs, 76 to Clermiston, 78 to Little France and 79 to Fairmilehead. 77 possibly too, to Colinton maybe?

I used to go into Princes Street with my Mum on a Saturday morning to meet my granny and auntie for shopping then coffee and cake. One of the places we went every month was the LRT office and Airport Terminal at the top of Waverley Bridge. It stood roughly where the delivery vehicle entrance was later created for Waverley Market. Anyway, I used to look at the timetables which were located around pillars while my auntie queued for her new 4 weekly Ridacard. I remember the Limited Stop leaflets were single sheet A5 yellow paper, to differentiate from the regular services on white paper booklets. The Airport service was on smaller card.

I can't remember how long these services ran for: I think the 73 lasted longest and was extended to Currievale Drive in the 80s. As far as I know, numbers 74 and 75 were only introduced from deregulation in 1986, to Balerno and Stoneybank respectively.

Nice memories. I too can recall the timetables in the LRT office. And the limited stop services had an additional (yellow/orange) panel in the bus stop flags as well. It was a different colour to the Fare Stage panel. Was there a flat fare on these services?

Just seen a 7900 trundling up Gilmerton Road in service on the 29, would hate to be a passenger on that. Not sure what it replaced but definitely a rare allocation one or the rarest ive seen in a while thanks to the rugby shuttles!

1139 involved an incident of some kind turning from Elm row into Annandale street, police are in attendance. Hoping nobody injured.

I know it was extended from Oxgangs to Hunter’s Tryst about 2010/11. What happened here is the 16 (every 10 minutes at the time) used to split at Oxgangs. Every 20 minutes one went to Colinton, while the other ones in between would run every 20 minutes up to Hunter’s Tryst. Initially I don’t believe the 5 did this on Sundays. Maybe as the 16 didn’t go to Hunter’s Tryst on a Sunday?

The old terminus was on Oxgangs Street and the flag pole should still there now. I’ve attached it here from 2008.

I couldn’t tell you when it was rerouted from Balcarres Street to Oxgangs sadly.

The 5 was extended from Morningside to Oxgangs on the 14th April 2002. I have a clear recollection of the bus war period around then. I would be interested to know when the 51 ended. I assume around 2000?

The 51 ended in March 2000.

That’s interesting as I thought it was extended long before that date.

2002 was a restoration to Oxgangs after truncation to Morningside at the start of the bus war. According to the OFT report into the bus war, on 14 April 2002: Frequency of seven daily services and one Sunday service increased, and the route of two services revised. The war was winding down by this time.

Why ‘infamous’?
Renilson rather ruthlessly changed a lot in his time in charge. Some of it was pretty drastic, some controversial. Remember he was the man to bring in Harlequin, ditching the livery Edinburgh had for almost a century.

He did bring in a lot of good things, flat fares amongst others.

Those infamous service changes I refer to were extremely mixed received, particularly the removal of the circular routes. Renilson’s reasons for doing so were justifiable, but the public weren’t exactly of the same opinion. As I say this is when the bus war really took off and the business had to make compromises to see off First, rationalising and simplifying corridors.

Remember most people will view things like ‘it’s always worked so why change it’. The 9 and 47 replacing the 41 is a more modern example of this. Pretty unpopular, but one with justifiable reasons.

Some of Marines electric buses are to hit the road today ;)
Aligns with all the speculation I've heard in the last few hours. Unsurprisingly (expecting) the 45 today before the 5 later on once more are available. Will be interesting to see which of 1005-1022 come off service first - 1021 has been out of use for a while already but not sure of an exact reason. I'm also curious if any of these ex-Londons may be relocated temporarily to cover damaged buses, for example 1005 could release 696 back to Central covering bus 669.

I recall that Rosewell was out of the LB network for several years as a result of the March 2000 service changes with the 8 rerouted to Moredun, the 80 curtailed to Polton Mill and the 82 chopped completely south of Danderhall. The story I heard at the time was that ceding Rosewell to First was a quid quo pro for First withdrawing the C5. After First made a mess of its monopoly in Rosewell, LB were back out there three years later.

Indeed - 784, 785, 789 and 794 have all made their debut on the 45 so far.
Don’t think we’ll see anything else for the time being. These are the only completed ones. There are another 3 for Central (766, 778 and 779) and 4 for Marine (782, 790, 792 and 793) at Seafield.

The repowered tour buses appear to be gaining "Zero Emission Repower" stickers under the driver's cab window, and green square EV number plates, going by 228 that just went by.

No e-prefix on the visible fleet number suggesting that hasn't become a defacto standard.

They’ve had these for a while now. All the repowered examples should have them.
