No doubt, but we are almost up to 10,000 posts on this particular thread and use of the 'search' function didn't immediately yield anything promising. So, where best to head off to?
It’s a bit too late now but ‘layout’ would have been a good search term.

There is a crossover at the far end of the tunnel between the Branch and the westbound main line, so the Penistone Line will be able to use any of 1-4, assuming no further changes are made to the tracks further out.

The crossover is next to the junction between the 2 tunnels. Just like it always has been. Link below. The diagram on Open Train times is correct too.

(link to google maps, shows a diagional crossover between 2 train lines. By a marker which says Springwood Junction. Another third trainline to the left which is not connected.)

Just back from an evening trip to Huddersfield, and I have to say... I wish they'd finish the roof. It was heaving down this evening, and the rear three carriages of my 802 weren't under cover. It was also coming through near the entrance, so pretty much the whole of P2 was under water.

They do have the new clock though. It's not until you see it in the wild that you realise just how slow 60 seconds is when you see half a double-arrow circulating...

Also, oddly, my train home on P3 wasn't announced. The train arriving on P2 was, then we had a message (keep hold of your items, I think), then another message (don't stand in the areas that say Don't Stand Here during the work), but no train announcement, even after I'd boarded.

Network Rail has published a press release: Rail upgrade work between Leeds and York across Christmas and New Year period https://www.networkrailmediacentre.co.uk/news/rail-upgrade-work-between-leeds-and-york-across-christmas-and-new-year-period
The tracks in the Church Fenton area will also be remodelled, with platforms 3 & 4 at the station re-aligned and a passing loop installed to allow fast trains to overtake slower trains. This will enable the line speed to be increased in the future and unlock more frequent services.
I haven't seen anything mentioned about Church Fenton remodelling previously, apologies if it has been mentioned before.

I don't believe it's getting a new loop as such. But the existing loop is being extended in the Leeds Direction to rejoin the main line on the straight. Which should remove the horrific speed restriction for Leeds Bound trains that call at Church Fenton. Then some realignment for a speed increase as well. So not a major remodelling but some tweaking.

There's a little bit on it in this PWI Slide pack: https://www.thepwi.org/wp-content/u...-Upgrade_David-Broadbent-Andrew-Wooddisse.pdf

The deck doesn't have any slides on changes to the layout, which would be unusual if anything was actually changing, so I think the Press Release may have got a little excited (hardly unknown for the Press team).
The 2 slides most relevant are this one, showing the Eastbound speed profile (grey = existing, green - new, top axis is miles from Manchester, Colton Jn is just cut off on the right hand side of both.)

And this one, showing the westbound speed profile (same colours):
1761031837375.png
I don't think these slides cover what the speed will be for the westbound loop, it's currently 40mph into the platform and a 15mph crossover back onto the Leeds Line.

This snip is from the latest publicly available Periodic Operating Notice, but that only covers until December 5 (https://www.networkrail.co.uk/indus...ators/national-electronic-sectional-appendix/), so that won't cover the upgrades to the loop yet.

Yes well it's not really a track design so decided to just let it fly. Based on OLE foundation locations when you pass through you can see the third line is being extended.

Indeed, the plan is clear enough what will end up happening. Do you know what the speed of the new turnout will be?

No afraid not. Haven't found reference to that anywhere although haven't dug particularly hard. But it will be higher than current.

It'll be 50mph back into the main line vs 15mph at present.

Indeed. A bit here and a bit there. It really does all add up and as you say - very welcome.
Agreed. This also hints at the value of removing level crossings, as the sectional appendix & plan suggests at least part of the reason for the 15mph turnout was the proximity of Rose Lane LC, the new turnout being across the site of Poulter's LC.

The approach into Church Fenton will still be slow but I guess there is less time to be made up on the braking portion.
The lower the speed limit then the more restrictive the approach control will be, and as well as the impact on the speed of that train, it delays clearing the line for anything behind that is timetabled to pass it at the station.

40mph at the turnout into the loop for trains from Leeds to York, that doesn't feel too bad. I guess it depends what the Approach control requirements are for the 125-85-40mph speed limit sequence and spacing.

Ah I read that as 25mph. It feels slower than 40 on the train.

The 25mph is for trains towards York (and the crossover to/from Sherburn), the Sectional Appendix I posted upthread isn't wonderfully clear and you have to look at which arrows the speeds are placed on with the diagram.

Church Fenton planned track diagram here...
I notice that the newly introduced 125mph does not stretch as far as in the plans. Southbound it stops about 2 miles north at the River Wharfe viaduct. Northbound it stops at Colton North Junction, which is 1.3 miles short of start of 125mph running in the southbound direction (Copmanthorpe crossing) and about 2.4 miles short of the start of 125mph running on the ECML track pair (Askam Bar P&R).

Is this a temporary increase before a longer stretch of 125mph running is allowed?

I still think the flat double junction at Colton poroviding for 125mph on both routes is a white elephant.

With the platform extensions taking place at Dewsbury, does this mean the existing layout is remaining?

I thought the passing loop was been removed and the leeds bound platform built out, but it now looks like its staying the same, just with 200m platforms rather than their current length.

It was designed when plans were still for the main cross-country route to be York-Castleford-Altofts Jn to join a greatly-upgraded North Midland line thence to Sheffield. The kink in the newer lines at Church Fenton would have been eased (and Castleford would have gone back to the old alignment). In that context 2 x 125 at Colton made good sense. But plans were changed ...

From the plans I'm working on at Dewsbury, afaict the track layout is staying the same.

I certainly hope they're staying the same! Much of the design work I've done requires the existing track layout to stay!

Re Baker viaduct Ravensthirpe.
Good progress now most of the concrete supports look to be in place.
Latest Flickr images from Robert Stenhouse show 3 spans over the Calder and Hebble navigation have been lifted into place. 2 more spans and a huge crane are parked nearby.
