Just of curiosity, anyone received anything from this opening? I know im being impatient here. Im just eager to start my journey.

Also if by some miracle another opening from another TOC comes up wouldn't be wise to apply for thatbone aswell?

Hey guys. I'm still waiting for OPC date. I just wanted to know is there a maths test. Do you have to answer questions like .... You travelling 30 mph for 20 minutes. How far do you travel etc?.

Hi,
If you're interested in trainee driver positions, LNWR is currently advertising, https://wmtrains.pinpointhq.com/

Drivers for: Bletchley, Coventry, Leamington Spa, Worcester. Closing 24th Oct.

It's my turn to give back. 6 years ago, someone posted that Bletchley depot was advertising for trainee drivers. I applied, and before the end of the year I was starting driver training. Don't delay though, it can be withdrawn if they have their quota of candidates.
I already applied in January 25 for Birmingham but now I have seen Coventry I wish I applied for this as that's very close to me. I don't think I can change depot preference can I

No you can not unfortunately. I applied for Bletchley just from a link here and after found out Coventry was up too... not much closer but 10/15 mins makes a difference for them to judge

There's no maths test as such. Apprenticeship modules in English, Maths, and ICT come later in training. If you have GCSE certificates in these subjects with A-C grades, you are exempt from the corresponding modules.

I did email them and ask and they replied and told me they are going to put a note on my file for the preference of Coventry due to my post code... Hopefully thats a good sign

Thank you for this. I just can't believe how long it's taking to get to OPC 1 testing

It's in their interest after all for you to be able to come to work easily and reliably, and not going home everyday completely run down

When you get invited to do the tests, they usually tell you if you’re doing the paper tests or all of them on one day (which is rare I think). What does your email say as well as the practice materials?

Has anyone who attended the Stage 1 assessments on the 10th in Crewe heard back from The OPC? It’s been a long week of waiting!

I did stage 1 & 2 assessment in August and have been told interviews won’t take place for ‘a while’. I presume no one else had heard anything back either?

Did anyone else get rejected on the application stage of the recent listings for leamington ect.
I have been rejected 3/4 times in a row now over the past few years, starting to give up hope tbh.

If you're regularly rejected have a think about how you are answering the application and do you have suitably relevant situations you have experienced. Rethinking those can help.

It's a tough process to get through to being accepted, everything you can do to make yourself stand out as better than every other applicant helps. Remember there are thousands of applicants for each single place on a training course.

I've been trying to get on the railways for nearly 5 years now and even got to 2 final interviews (Still to this day don't know why I wasn't successful but hey ho) but I refuse to give up. What I would suggest is maybe take a break from applying even just for 6-12 months and agree with the previous poster Bigfoot copy and paste the questions on to a word Document, grab yourself a coffee and get in a good calm mindset and try to answer them as comprehensively as possible with plenty of detail and think of good examples! Then copy and paste those answers into the next application you see.

Does anyone know what the salary structure is like? Is it half pay until becoming a fully qualified train driver?

Im sure its start off 35k but tgen not sure. Seems reallynlow compared to another toc im actually waiting for. And lower than what im on currently but i would sacrifice it if i manage to get through all the stages

So TOCs do vary. Some do trainee wage until you pass some exams. Then a bit more when you pass your handling & route learning, then full salary when you are out on your own and productive 12-18 months after starting.

LNR/WMR do trainee wage for a set number of weeks (somewhere around the 32-36 week mark, I don't remember exactly). You then go onto year 1 driver salary, 1 year later from that date to year 2 salary, and then full salary at year 3. Approx y1, 2 & 3 salaries are57k, 62k, 67k.
Hope that answers your question.
