No, just one of many NHS inefficiencies, each year since I became eligible they send me a letter saying I am entitled several weeks after I have already booked one on receipt of an e-mail. the money wasted on unnecessary postage mounts up!

I‘m nearly 75 and I don’t think I’ve ever had the flu. Bad colds yes, even man colds and any man knows how bad they can be, but the flu…. no I don’t think I’ve ever had it.

I’ll have a Covid jab when offered but not the flu jab. From what I‘ve read there are many different variants of flu. One jab can’t cover all, so I’ll pass on that one.

I have had a proper bout of influenza once and it wasn't pleasant. The jab may not cover every variant but I will grab the opportunity to mitigate the risk of another week like that one.

When booking the jab I discovered that I have suddenly become too young for the covid vaccination.

They're looking to the future when 2nd generation BR DMUs will be as nostalgic to their volunteers and punters as locos and MK1 coaches are to us.

But are the second generation vehicles going to be as much as a pull for visitors as a steam loco hauling a train ‘just like grandad used to catch’? You are not going to have the funds for restoration if the average punter looking for a day-out decides that a trip on a Class 150 isn’t really his cup of tea.

For me, a first generation DMU is not something I would travel for, let alone their replacements. The appeal is presumably mostly one of operating economy for preserved lines rather than as an attraction?

I've enjoyed riding on first generation DMUs on heritage lines, also the the 769s (former 319 EMUs) in normal service in the Rhymney Valley.

Steam? Not particularly - I have no memories of it on BR, having spent my childhood in post-electrification Kent.

Another side effect of getting older, thinking the past was so much better, once you get over just how bad it really was, having to use a Public phone box, no such thing as internet, having to watch what your parents had said was going to be on, teachers who got off on beating kids, Officialdom that called you a Lier when you complained that a pillar of society tried to touch you up, yeah, great wasn't it ,
