5 would easily suffice weekdays during the day. Unlike Brum the locals are very quiet during the day, particularly the Tring.

They've got at least 20 years. The replacement hasn't been ordered yet and won't be for at least a decade.

I don’t think there is any way to tell at the moment. I would just check RTT on the day.

I think that's a 350. The 8.06 and the 9.33 are 730s if I've worked it out right (no guarantee)

It’s 37 350/2s, but that’s me being pedantic. What helps is that when a 10 car replaces a 12 car, that’s essentially 3 units replaced by two which makes it a ludicrous capacity increase.

Plus there are far more services south of Northampton where 5.730 is sufficient than the almost none (bar Sunday morning early on and the middle of the night) when 4.350 is sufficient.

5 x 23/24m does seem to have become a bit of a standard, and that's for good reason - it's a surprisingly useful length (even if open access operators running single 5s are a pain on the ECML).
