Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

I had a journey on one of the 730/0s on the Chase line the other day, and happened to use the (working!) toilet onboard and noticed that it had evidently been graffitied but cleaned off, albeit it was still obvious that it had been graffitied and it got me thinking…

The LNR-refurbished 350s (and I think the 172s, not too sure about the 172/1s) have a “metro tile” vinyl on the walls while the ex-LM 350/2s have vinyl images of the cities they serve on the walls. The 730s don’t seem to have these, which seem to act as very good graffiti deterrents, and make it far easier to get rid of graffiti. Seems a missed opportunity!

No pictures on the 730/2s in the toilets as I've cleaned 233 and 234 this week at work. One disabled/access toilet and two normal toilets on the 5 car train.

I have noticed with the disabled/access toilet there is two buttons to open the door. One on the front as your walking through the train and one on the side as well. When pressed the door opens and a "boop" sound sounds as well.

Not the best toilets really they are those metal toilets with the strange flush. Not a proper flushing toilet for example on the Mk4 rakes TFW use.

The accessible toilets on the 730/2s are identical just LNR branded instead having used both examples (115 journeys on a 730/0, 3 on a 730/2). The space-saver toilets are very small on the 730/2, but they do the job. But it really is a shame they haven't thought to put vinyls on the walls to make it easier (and less damaging) to remove graffiti.

21st July will see 2 of the 8 trains switch to 730/2.
2 more will swap on 4th August.
2 more will swap on 18th August.
2 350s will remain.

All 730/2 will run as single, 5 coach, sets

There will be a 10 car set for ECS moves on Saturday mornings from the 27th, 5F03 Crewe to Lime St. That's the only 10 car due to be out of anyone does want to see a double set.

I am likely to find it convenient to travel from Birmingham to Crewe early evening on August 26th. Is there a schedule confirming which workings will be 730s and which will remain 350?

Considering I'm in Walsall overnight on Sunday and the weather looks rubbish on Monday I might take one for a spin to pass the time

Reference to services changing over to 730/2 seems to me to be off-thread but it's being used for this purpose. On that basis, it doesn't seem to have been noted that another 2x730/2 diagram for the South of the WCML was introduced a couple of weeks ago; it starts with the 0537 Milton Keynes - Northampton and continues with the 0625 Northampton - Euston.
There are now morning and evening peak 730/2 Northampton services and it's odd (back on to the thread subject - implementation) that the LNR Network Maps over the doors do not show Northampton - apparently there's just a single route from Milton Keynes to Rugby, without any intermediate station.

It has been mentioned in post #3112 (13th June).
The first diagram was introduced on 9th June with one evening trip to Northampton.

5F03 runs ECS as a 10 car to Liverpool and detaches in the platform to form the 0607 and 0633 services (1F40 does not run on Saturday mornings)

The timings then are pretty much the same as the M-F diagrams, with changes to the last trains as follows.

On circuit 1 The 2212 arrival at Lime Street then forms 1K99 at 2217 to Crewe.

On circuit 2 5K64 ECS move to Crewe is retimed to depart New Street at 2029

Sunday services are still operated exclusively by 350 units.

One thing I don't like about the 730s is the position of the USB sockets. With them being directly under the seats it makes it a bit difficult to plug in USB cables. I would prefer them to be by the windows like they are on the 350s.

I saw a 730/2 at Rugby on Saturday. It already has graffitti all over it.

There's almost always a 730/2 parked in the siding at Rugby next to platform 3 for training purposes.

On the 350s they're under the seat in front for the most part, it's only at bays, the two airline seats at the driving ends which face the vestibule, and in the old first class section where they're by the windows, the 730s are more consistent in this regard.

Depends which 350s. Some have them fitted on the side conduit and some have them attached to the seats. /2s don't have any I think.

The positioning of the sockets was standardised after the refurbishment. The side conduit sockets are only in the positions I mentioned above, everything else is under the seat in front. The old /3 and /4 socket locations under the tables were plated over after refurbishment, a bit like what happened with the 390s. The 350/2s only have sockets in first class. It's different on the 185s, 444s and 450s where they instead elected to put all of the sockets on the side conduit (something that I'm not personally a fan of since I like resting my foot on the conduit).

This is 730211. It had been parked at Camden C.S.D. for several weeks on the track closest to the wall. I'm guessing that's when the graffiti appeared, although it could have been earlier.
It moved to Rugby on 16/7/25.
There's still one left at Camden so I wonder whether that's been vandalised too.

Is there an ongoing issue with the toilets or is it simply poor design (ie inadequate water capacity) that they can't last anywhere near a day in service?

Very rare to find a functioning toilet on them once you get beyond about 8pm.

Don't the Aventras have some new type of toilet that supposedly doesn't need to be emptied as often, or is that just the 701s? I forgot its technical name.
