What horror am I looking at at Clapham Junction (Overground platforms)

The worst Oyster reader I’ve seen for some time.

I’m aware one can touch in (but not out) on a pink reader.

And a yellow touch in/out reader at Clapham Jn’s Overground platforms would be very useful.

But this? This is surely just a source of confusion for most.

One has to assume the pink Oyster branding and text (other than the pad itself) has been removed deliberately.

And the addition of a text label from a yellow reader with the careful placing of a line of black sticky tape also deliberate.

Nearby, there are pink readers complete with all branding and notices.

What wording have they covered up with the tape?

Not sure its the worst at clapham junction, one of the yellow readers in the tunnel by platform 17, is currently missing its yellow cover and the PCB is exposed, been like that for at least a week.

“and out” because while you can touch in on a pink reader, you cannot touch out.

That seems like the most likely reason. (Arguably better to have this than no reader at all, assuming it's intended as a short term fix.)

You misunderstand what Hadders was suggesting - which is that the actual reader, or at least the housing of said reader, may have been replaced recently because there was some issue with the old one (or the housing of it).

In other words, there's always been a pink reader at that location (well, since the first installation at least - i.e. it didn't used to be a yellow reader) - just for some reason the actual reader itself (or at least the housing thereof) has had to be replaced / exchanged for another one.
