Had the email this morning

"Unfortunately, on this occasion you haven't been successful. That doesn't mean you can't apply for another role within TransPennine Express although you'll need to wait six months before applying for the same role again.

Although we can't provide specific feedback at this stage, we do wish you well in the future.

Thank you again for your interest. We'd really like to wish you well in your future career."

Sorry to hear this! If you don’t mind me asking, how long ago did you complete the tests? Just trying to gauge how long it takes to get a response. Completed the error checking test today. Good luck with any future applications!

Hi so I’ve completed the 5 question assessment and the error checking test. If I was successful after this stage, What are the next steps? I’m aware there are multiple other steps and so just want to see how I’m tracking and if I’m even half way ! Also, is it just one vacancy for each of the listed stations?

Next would be numerous psychometric tests, I think 7 or 8 in total. Pass all those and you’re on to a psychometric MMI interview. If you pass that then you’re on to the final driver manager interview DMI. If you make it that far then it’s just the medicals, subject to a course slot being available. So a long way to go yet

We’ve completed the easy bits basically. Lots more tests are the next step.

I have completed a poor attempt at the Error checking test :s ,only managed half. I am guessing this isn't good enough if they're expecting you to do 50 questions in 10 mins.

They’re not expecting you to do all 50, the reason for the high number of questions and the short amount of time to do them is to see how well you cope under pressure. I’m sure there were people here saying they were through to hiring manager shortlisting after doing half, just make sure you’re getting most of them right.

Depends which link you go into. You'll either sign the routes to Hull, Scarborough or Carlisle.

Have a look at the Drivers' route guide on the jobs and careers section. It's a pinned post at the top and lists all TOCs, select TPE and it will give you the full breakdown for each depot.

Hi all,

I got an invite to do error checking. It says I have 48 hours to do it, is this right? As I'm away for longer than this without computer access.

Is it possible to do it on your phone?

Manchester Piccadilly
Traction:
All sign 185. West Coast link adds 397, Hull Link adds 802. Scarborough & Hull links have starter links that may not sign all routes/traction covered by main link
Routes
Manchester Piccadilly - York via Manchester Victoria or Guide Bridge, Huddersfield and Leeds (Hull & Scarborough Links)
Manchester - Liverpool via Chat Moss/Warrington Central (Scarborough & Hull links)
Manchester Piccadilly - Manchester Airport via the Ordsall Chord (All links)
York - Scarborough (Scarborough Link)
Micklefield - Hull (Hull Link)
Manchester Piccadilly - Stalybridge via Guide Bridge (Hull & Scarborough Links)
Edge Hill - Castlefield Junction via Warrington Central. (Scarborough Link)
Manchester Airport - Carlisle via Bolton & Preston, also via Golborne Junction (West Coast link)
Manchester Piccadilly - Sheffield (Scarborough link)

I would do it within the 48hrs just to be safe.

I did it on my phone with no issues. The scaling issue is the same regardless, so for the best experience try changing zoom to 75 or 90% as the selection boxes are not fully visible when the pages load.

Yes 48 hours. Try use a computer if you can, some people have used a phone, look earlier in the thread for problems they encountered.

I would hope that you do, it's traction type and stations mostly! You will be expected to know the vast majority of this when you get to interview stage

More people had issues on laptops/macs than phones

I'll be ready if I make it to the interview!

So for example Preston. Traction is the trains I will drive and those will be the routes? Thank you.

Preston:
Traction:
397,802
Routes:
Preston - Manchester Airport via Chorley + Chat Moss
Preston - Liverpool Lime Street via St Helens Central
Preston - Glasgow Central via Oxenholme
Carstairs Jcn - Edinburgh Waverley

Can someone correct me if this is outdated? I was first under the impression that TPE also operated 185s from NCL depot, and some services continued towards Liverpool? Or does service typically terminate at Leeds, with those travelling towards Manchester/Liverpool being covered by drivers from York Depot?

Newcastle:
Traction:
802
Routes:
Edinburgh - Newcastle (High Level Bridge and King Edward Bridge) - Leeds (via Micklefield)

As per my response to you on another thread. The info on here is correct for Newcastle. They don’t sign past Leeds and thus don’t need to sign 185s. Liverpool, York or Hull link Manchester drivers can take the trains from Leeds to Liverpool

185s used to be signed by Newcastle drivers but they’ve been mostly replaced by 802s so not anymore. Newcastle sees services all the way to Liverpool with drivers only signing as far as Leeds where another driver takes over.
