One thing the Traffic Commissioner can do is block one operator's timetable from being registered at short notice. Usually whichever is submitted first or gets local authority approval quickest gets the short notice, whilst the other has to wait the full notice period.
In this instance High Peak are not running on Sundays but are serving Hollymoorside, while Stagecoach are running on Sundays but not serving Hollymoorside, so in the short term I'd say there's a good case for accepting both on short notice just to keep things running.

Stagecoach are taking on the 170.

I have no source unfortunately other than the fact drivers are learning the route as we speak.
High Peak are taking over and have published their timetables; Monday - Friday direct from Wadshelf to Brampton along the A619, Saturdays include a deviation to serve Holymoorside, but nothing published for Sunday

The journeys they haven't registered appear to be the ones currently supported by BSIP funds.

I suspect there will be a fight over who gets this funding - who wins is likely to be the one who sticks with the service long-term. By serving Holymoorside I feel High Peak are in a better position.

They've confirmed it will omit Holymoorside, so will be different. If their intention is more to take the Chesterfield Railway Station to Chatsworth traffic then they'd actually be better avoiding Chatsworth Road as it can be a nightmare in the summer.
Stagecoach have managed to publish their timetable on the website now. Chesterfield to Bakewell, services running slightly earlier so they'll be running a couple of minutes before the High Peak service. Bakewell to Chesterfield, buses running half an hour later/earlier than now - obviously due to the different service. So that will be fun.

High Peak obviously have the whole route as is so anyone used to the current timetable is absolutely sorted. But they may find Stagecoach get the passengers from Chesterfield, but High Peak will get everyone from Bakewell. Fun.

That's not what the published timetable shows. It's a direct copy of the existing Hulleys one, with Holymoorside served on all trips.

 It seems this has turned into an unintentional bus war. Both operators, without knowing the other had the same intentions, decided to take on the service, so now we have a far better service than before!

I'm glad Stagecoach have a Sunday service

I tend to agree. Competition on this route will benefit neither operator, passenger or Council. Which reminds me where is Derbyshire CC in all this? There should have been talks between DCC and both operators before registrations were submitted with by the looks of it Stagecoach being told to back off if not prepared to serve Holymoorside all day.

Blocking one or the other operator will result in either no Sunday service or Hollymoorside not being served. Neither offering replicates what's there currently so if I were DCC I'd support both if only for the very short term. Yes, it's very messy, but these things usually are.

I understand that the depot is being blocked by lorries (Hulley's bus drivers) preventing buses leaving or entering the depot. Drivers want paying and this was a concern I had last week but didn't want to comment as it may upset drivers or staff who read this.
Hulleys finances were not good and is one reason why staff often don't get notice when a company folds and find the gates locked.
Sad.

A short notice registration should include a letter of support from the relevant local authority (in this case DCC) for it to be accepted.

Very strange for DCC to have supported both applications - if indeed that is what has happened. The only possible reason I can think is that the two services cover different things - the High Peak covers Holymoorside (which the Stagecoach one doesn't) and the Stagecoach one has a Sunday provision (which the High Peak one doesn't).

Longer term, I'd be surprised if the service continued with 2 operators...

That's illegal and I'm sure the local constabulary will assist in encouraging the vehicles to move...

I notice that both High Peak and Stagecoach are to serve Lady Manners School. Perhaps they will both be needed if they only run single deckers. It would have been good if Stagecoach could have stuck to their standard times all day as they are doing on Saturdays. Buses back to Chesterfield at 1530 and 1630 would have been useful without having to travel with hoards of noisy school children. I’ve really missed having a bus at around 1530 since the X70 stopped running.

Derbyshire Times have published a short piece on the blockage, complete with a photo.
With a comment confirming it's Mount Pleasant, not Hulleys drivers who are responsible for the blockage.

Whether it's as a result of this isn't clear, but only LMS journeys on the 6 and 173 appeared to operate today, although as at least one bus isn't tracking this may not be totally accurate. No 170s in operation as per the tracker as I type.

There is also a comment from a Driver (from the username, known to be a regular on enthusiast groups) stating that the trucks are actually from the recovery firm Hulley's use, who are owed a chunk of money, rather than drivers themselves. This seems to be backed up by the image in question (unless drivers have suddenly gained two large bus-sized recovery vehicles!).

But what would it achieve? It's not going to get money into their pockets, if anything it reduces the likelihood of them getting paid
Apparently many of the drivers are unhappy at the state of things, promises were made that owed money would be paid and nothing has come.
As I’ve said previously, there’s a lot more to the ‘I won’t be around’ comment than meets the eye.

It’s also apparently questionable whether the farewell event will run.

Drivers have parked infront of the lane apparently and won’t move until they are paid.

It seems unfair to me that the 63,170,171,172,173,178 and 257 will all be operated by respected and competant bus operators, but the 110 and 111 will be stuck with ****ty Mercedes Minibuses. Great.

Yes, I have just seen the Derbyshire Times article. One of the lorries looks like a breakdown truck.

What are the loadings on the 110/111 like, do they need more than a Minibus?
