I passed all my OPC tests with aventi about 2 years ago. but no manager interview yet. I've applied for WMT and had this email?

"Thank you for submitting your application for the Trainee Train Driver position with West Midlands Railway.

We undertake database checks to ensure your eligibility to take part in assessments. We have identified that you have sat the process for a different train company.

Please be advised that you may need to sit additional tests or the same tests you have sat previously to meet WMRs enhanced standard"

will I have to do everything again and potatially get a fail now as I believe Aventi use enhanced standards aswell?
This confused me too, as I did my previous OPC with WMR at their enhanced standards.

Think of enhanced standard as each company make their own number up, it could be additional tests or it could be a higher pass mark.

If I remember correctly WMT uses the DFFT test which Avanti do not, so that would be a test you'd have to do.

But Avanti could want 80% and WMT might want 90% (hypothetical numbers)

Id be prepared to sit all the tests again and then be relieved when they say which tests you don't need to do.

Avanti also use CBI where as WMT uses MMI so that would be another interview you'd have to do again within OPC assessments.

Birmingham applicant here. Got invite to OPC Stage 1 today. Does anyone know if OPC Stage 1 with WMT includes the full sweep of tests or just the 5 they recommend focusing on in the email. The prep materials include the full sweep of assessment practise materials but the email recommends focusing on the 5. Correct me if I am wrong but Stage 1 is the written assessments and Stage 2 is the computer assessments. It’s a bit confusing because I’ve seen some TOC’s invite people to a full day of testing from GBT to MMI and label it Stage 1.

When did you complete the initial tasks? I only did mine yesterday. Is there a choice of dates you could choose?

I completed all 4 of them same day the email came through on the 27th Jan Monday. They didn’t give me any option to select a date. The successful email includes a specific date. I am surprised really because the email came through before the deadline on the 4 tasks.

Hi folks, I applied for New Street/Snow Hill. Got the email to complete the initial tests whilst away on holiday last week (Thu 30th Jan) & have completed them today (Mon 3rd Feb). Hope anyone still waiting to hear gets theirs soon. :)

Hi, These initial tests, what do each of them comprise? The process seems to have changed a little. I'm familiar with an SJT, but not sure what the ones such as priorities-driving tasks involve.
Are the other two simply forms asking for more information, or are they tests as well. Thank you

I have just received mine too, I am confident with the SJT. But I have no idea what the other 3 could be about.

It’s just stage 1, paper assessments, so the 5 tests they’ve recommended. Pass that and you’ll be onto stage 2, which is computer tests and MMI

1st one asks about personal info: Do you have own transport, have you applied before, do you live within 60 mins of depot applied for etc.

2nd one is regarding preferences: Asks you to choose answers between strongly agree and strongly disagree, and was things like, do you like working in a team, do you prefer to work at a desk, do you like to be supervised, do you like structured day etc.

3rd is Priorities - Driving: Asks you to choose what you think are the 3 most important and 3 least important driving tasks from a pre-defined list (thinkgs like driving a train safely, following rules and regs, giving good customer service etc)

4th is an SJT with 9 different scenarios.

Hope that helps :)

Brilliant.
Thank you.

Seems the 3rd one is the new addition :)

Thanks that’s really helpful. In the preferences one do you have any idea what they are looking for? From the examples you gave I would be thinking disagree for working in a team and supervision. Especially given the lone nature of the job.

Hello, new to the forum. I have applied for Shrewsbury and got the email to do the four on line tests, I have never applied before so this is all new to me. All the above is very helpful I was just wondering if the online tests are timed or do you have as long as you want to do them? Just trying to decide when to do them around kids and a dog!!!

Cheers.

The test are not timed but you’d have to finish them once you start them. A quiet and distraction-free space is encouraged.

I just got my online test results and was informed I didn't meet the standard. I'm 99% sure I've aced the SJT which means the preferences test has let me down. I felt quite confident about that test too feeling that my personality and preferences are aligned with what I believe they're looking for, so it's come as a surprise.

I have to say I'm a bit gutted. I can't apply for another 12 months and I don't know if I will for a good while. Best of luck to those still waiting and those who got the good news about progressing to the next stages.

Sorry to hear that, did it give you a score or anything?

How long after you did the test did you get the result?

Sorry to hear that. Can you remember what you put for the preferences test?

I'm still waiting, although a few days behind you. My deadline was 4th and I completed on 3rd, so a week today. Just re-read the email and it says upto a week after the deadline, so I guess we just have to be patient and play the waiting game.
