I’m assuming that this won’t be moving any time soon as it’s now blocked in by a 325 which I’m guessing won’t return to service again given the position with RM.

Just going slightly off topic, I understand that GBRF 60076 is now at Toton. Can anyone confirm what livery it currently wears? I was on the bank yesterday evening and there were two that I couldn’t identify. One appears to be in GBRF livery next to the water towers (if that’s what they are). The other is in Colas livery to the right hand side of the depot (looking at it from the bank) at the very back.

Most photos I’ve seen of it are in Colas livery but I’m sure I read somewhere that it had been paid into GBRF livery.

Any help would be appreciated.

Looks like 60076 was still in Colas livery when it arrived at Toton, but it's been there a month giving plenty of time for a repaint. 60056 arrived at Toton on Monday, that one was also in Colas livery. I suspect those were the two you saw.

Reported on WNXX this morning that the 12 Land Recovery locos have been removed from the WQDA pool with, currently, no reallocation, there are also a number of photos (subscription site) of them at Radway Green and while still a sad looking bunch certainly look better than when dumped at Toton

There is also 'activity' at Toton with some of the stored locos on site "suggesting more sales (or rentals) in the offing. Nothing definite yet but it is known that DCR/Cappagh are keen to expand their fleet", we shall see in time

The updated disposals list shows no known buyers as yet for the 16 from the March tender or the 31 from the April Tender

There's a set of five photos on Flickr taken on the 29th, put 'Radway Green' into the search box, of the twelve locos on their individual track panels, they are pretty much blocked in by sets of concrete sleeper panels which should stop even the most optimistic loco thief from starting one up and driving it off

Not 'new' information as such but WNXX have a report on the current stored Class 60 situation in their 'Latest News' (subscription only) section today

6 photos of the 12 Land Recovery locos at Radway Green, 5 of various locos at Toton and several more of those at Loughborough Brush

The current distribution of the 82 stored is

15 @ Brush Works Loughborough - 14 DCR including 60099 currently undergoing reinstatement work - 1 GBRf
1 @ Crewe EMD
1 @ Leicester LIP - DCR 60060 spares donor
1 @ Longport - GBRf 60014 stripped for re-engineering
12 @ Radway Green - Land Recovery
22 @ Toton - including 60011/017/024/062/074 which are still DB owned and not yet tendered
4 @ Toton Compound - 1 GBRf
26 @ Toton Yard

The remainder have either been tendered with no buyer announced or stored by DB

Still no updates as such on any of the withdrawn locos, meanwhile 'Class 60 facebook' today has a couple of photos of privately owned 60050 & 60086 which are stored at Kinsley, 050 is partly visible with 086 hidden behind it, there doesn't appear to be much going on

There's also another photo, taken with permission, just been posted on 'Class 60 facebook' of some of the Land Recovery locos, 037, 077 & 036, stored at Radway Green

Only 14 are still in active service - 10 GBRf and 4 DCR. 60050 and 60086 aren't included in the above 82 (see post #375 for their whereabouts), 60006 was scrapped in 2020, and 60081 is part of the LSL collection at Margate.

I guess the next one to enter service will be 60099 under overhaul at Loughborough.

Another whopping bunch available for sale today, I make it 31, on the DB Disposal site

All at Toton barring 082 at Crewe, closing date 19th April

So to try to get an up to date situation

4 - 006 @ Scrapped, 050/086 @ Kinsley, 081 @ LSL Margate

19 - 028/029/046/055 operational with DCR, 099 under repair, 008/009/013/022/038/057/061/064/070/075/080/090/098 stored, 060 spares donor

13 - 002/021/026/047/056/076/085/087/095/096 operational with GBRf, 014 @ Longport, 004 @ Toton & 018 @ Loughborough Brush all transferred to the GBSD storage pool

5 - 011/017/024/062/074 stored with DB

* For legal reasons I retain the right as a fully qualified and practicing OAP to have put the same number twice although, hopefully, I haven't

The information in this post is still correct for the entire Class 60 fleet

The 82 presumably include the engineless 60014 at Progress Rail at Longport

Three of the GBRf locos (the stored ones) are owned by GBRf, the operational GBRf 10 are leased from Beacon.

Quite so, the typing finger, fingers on a good day, got in the way of the brain there, operated is what I should have put rather than owned

One new photo on Class 60 facebook today of the Land Recovery locos at Radway Green, taken from a different angle than usual but no change to their situation as yet. The contributor seems to be under the impression that three are to be repaired with the other nine as donors and that "more are expected to come in the future"

** Updated Monday 30th December **

Another photo, this time on The Rail Scene facebook, showing the main fan of nine locos blocked in by the other three and with numerous concrete track panels stopping any budding Trotters Independent Traders from trying to get them out and down to Peckham Recycling Centre

I've seen a couple of uncorroborated reports that the proposed re-engineering of GBRf 60014 at Longport has been called off due to 'insurmountable engineering problems', one comment suggests that the bedplate for the engine and alternator are at different heights and was deemed too expensive to change, as I say these are not official comments which, perhaps, will come in due course, or not ....

I have no reason to doubt you, but that "news" suggests the repower involves only one particular design of power unit and one traction alternator. I was always under the impression the Mirrlees lump stands quite tall - especially relative to the EMD 710. So does that suggest somnething other than the EMD power unit was being considered ?

Who knows, but repowering 34ish year old diesels, which have stood cold and damp for years may not be the best investment.

This image from the RCTS website shows the engine plus alternator assembly - note the very different heights of the mountings at each end.

I wonder if some of the engine sump is below floor level when installed in the loco?

I actually expected a Caterpillar engine to appear
