To be boringly pedantic, decimation is actually reducing by one tenth (the Roman practice of killing every tenth soldier to encourage the others).

Of course it isn't used that way now :D
I almost posted the same thing, but my dictionary also states that the accepted modern usage means to reduce or damage greatly.

Yesterday Network Rail confirmed exactly the points that Bald Rick states.
Compared with 2018-19 there are now 17% more trains on this stretch of track, 14% more station stops and 38% more tonnage.
Indeed but, I wonder, was that situation taken into account with maintenance plans? Or was the inevitable failure escalation just accepted as inevitable and to be 'lived with'?

When NR approve TOCs timetables, does anyone actually stop to think about infrastructure impact, or do they just focus on whether a timetable will "work"?

Yes, there are various risk processes to go through. It used to be called TCRAG (Timetable Change Risk Assessment Group), but has another fancy title now I can't remember.

TP-RAP (Train Plan Risk Assurance Panel).

To be boringly pedantic, you're wrong.

Now back to the topic.

Thanks Tomos - your link contains the brilliant Life of Brian Latin grammar lesson which is always good to watch again!

Overhead line issues for the second day running today around Ealing, doesn’t to be the same place today as yesterday, much disruption to Elizabeth line with down trains running fast Ealing Bdy to West Drayton/Heathrow this afternoon, been a unit stuck at Ealing Bdy for a few hours on the down relief it looks.

Fairly sure yesterday's incident at Ealing Broadway was nothing to do with the maintenance of the infrastructure.

An only going by what seemed to put out yesterday evening, GWR were using the relief lines though, TfL seem to be very poor with info on the Elizabeth line when it’s disrupted.

Seems to still be having issues at nearly 2200 this evening. Anyone have any updates? Yet another day of big delays.

Monday was nothing to do with infra/maintenance.

Tuesday was OLE damage on the Down Main at Ealing

Wednesday has been OLE damage on the Down Relief near Ealing, and now a nasty points failure at Southall.

Tuesday and Wednesday have both been OLE related.

Monday, whilst not being OLE related did necessitate an emergency switch off of power which took a prolonged period of time to restore.

Extra overnight engineering works have been taking place since 2200 the last few weeks in response to the major Thames Valley problems over the last 12 months, although that has mainly been for ground-based asset management.

Was related to a rather serious trespasser event.

All of which has been known and anticipated for literally decades. Crossrail wasn't exactly a secret or a surprise!

More disruption this morning between Heathrow/Reading and Paddington due to a track fault at Hayes.
Totally appreciate that a lot of work needs to be done to bring the infrastructure up to scratch, but it is concerning to me that there are continued faults being found.

Elizabeth line was in meltdown during my commute, so I gave up and came home - a common occurrence!

Disruption expected until the end of the day.
I've lost count of number of recent delays but definitely Saturday, Sunday, last night and today.
The usual contingency in place with didcot stoppers cancelled.
The EL train i took this morning from Maidenhead (started at Reading) was full and standing from Slough

You might forgive it if there was a one-off event, but it is without hyperbole that weekly (if not several times a week) a critical bit of infrastructure fails between Slough and Paddington necessitating a rather severe contingency plan. Sometimes more than one at a time!

The overnight engineering works (Project Brunel) have finished for now - not that they appear to have had the required impact - pending negotiations between all parts on getting line access again.

Certainly it seems the contingency has also given up spinning at Reading as they used to do. The fact that they can get away with cancelling services over in Bristol because of a points failure in Hayes shocks me

That is certainly a shame. GWR's struggles to apply the contingency well seems to involve running extra trains through to Paddington outside contingency (not good, causing more congestion for all) or just outright cancelling (not good, people held back down the line). I can understand not wanting to block up Reading and all the crew relief at Paddington, but they can be moved down the line as required.

Tried boarding one of the very few that stopped at Acton Main Line and it was a no go. No one could board, with the next service cancelled most of us gave up and went home!

During the contingency plans affecting anything east of Heathrow Junction, Acton Main Line, West Ealing and Hanwell are all reduced to 2tph (if they can even be served if the issue is on the Relief lines). Naturally services are already busy (Ealing goes from 10tph to 4tph) so this is naturally an unavoidable consequence (especially in AM where Acton Main Line is the last GWML stop) with little to zero chance of additional stops.

Southall area seems to be a particularly issue.
There has been issues in this area past few months and today one of the lines in the area is closed (don't know which line) for emergency repairs

Cracked crossing (yes, again).
