Correct Big Mistake There

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

A BIG DROP THERE TO THE WHITE CART. Of interest I have googled but been unsuccessful in finding out The Actual Drop. I would be interested to actually know. TIA if anyone can possibly come with it
Comparing Google Earth top to bottom seems like the top is at an altitude of 80m and the river below about 50m, so a 30m drop

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

A minor point but in #2040 the road closed to cite a crane is a small station access road (parallel to the car park entry) on Busby Road, not Clarkston Road

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

There's a new roadworks on roadworksscotland also - 7 working days starting 18 - 26 July 2024 at the junction with the bridge on Westerton lane for 'Excavate joint hole for LV cable diversion to enable rail line electrification'

Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop visited the site of the relocated Hairmyres station yesterday (17 July) to see progress on the East Kilbride Enhancement project.

Work started on the project at the beginning of this year and the visit offered a chance for the Cabinet Secretary to see what has been achieved during that time.

Two platforms at the relocated station, which will accommodate the double tracking on this section of the route, are nearing completion.

Double tracking allows trains more opportunities to pass each other rather than having to wait, and helps keep trains running on time, improving reliability.

Over the last week, the team has installed 24 steel foundations to support the new footbridge and lift towers as work gets underway on those and the new building.

Extensive earthworks will take place at Hairmyres this weekend to create the clearance needed to extend the existing two-track section of the railway by 1.4km.

Cabinet Secretary for Transport, Fiona Hyslop said: “I have thoroughly enjoyed this opportunity to visit the East Kilbride Enhancement project and meet the team that is delivering real progress towards the programme. It is clear there is a great deal of activity taking place along the route to deliver the rail electrification and improvement works.

“This £140m investment by the Scottish Government will improve rail services and facilities for local communities, making them even greener as we work towards our ambitious Net Zero goals.”

Stephen McCall, Network Rail Senior Programme Manager, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome the Cabinet Secretary to site and for the team to have the opportunity to highlight the significant progress that has been made across the enhancement project to date.

“The positive collaboration between Network Rail and our contractor partners has fostered a one team approach that has been wholly beneficial in dealing with any challenges, developing solutions and maintaining delivery to programme.

“We’ve achieved a lot over the first half of this year and have much more to deliver over the coming months. People will start to see the new station buildings, at Hairmyres and East Kilbride, emerge from the ground, as well as steel masts along the tracks as we transform the East Kilbride to Glasgow route into a more sustainable railway environment.”

Meeting representatives from the project team also provided an opportunity for the Cabinet Secretary to hear about progress at East Kilbride station, where the platform has been extended by 51m ahead of construction of the new building here.

When work finishes at both stations in the summer of 2025, they will offer a more modern and accessible space, with improved passenger facilities. This includes a new booking office, waiting area and a retail unit at East Kilbride.

Outwith the stations, two new bridges have been completed and work is underway on a further two, at Thornliebank Road and Westerton Lane near Busby station, with three more planned across the route.

Piling work is due to finish at the end of this month between Thornliebank and Busby, with over 165 foundations already in the ground to provide the base for the overhead masts currently being erected which will support the overhead line equipment.

Over the remainder of the summer and up until the end of this year, piling activity will take place between Thorntonhall and East Kilbride.

Network Rail and contractors SPL Powerlines, Story, AmcoGiffen, Siemens, Rail Systems Alliance Scotland and QTS are delivering the £140m East Kilbride Enhancement project, part of a wider Scottish Government investment to decarbonise railway passenger services.

The enhancement project is scheduled to be completed in December 2025.

Are those three new bridges the new railway station bridges? Or are they including the ones at Strawhill Road and Clarkston Road?
There will be no new bridges at Strawhill Road and Clarkston Road. The station footbridges are being replaced.

There's four station footbridges planned though, not three - Giffnock, Clarkston, Busby and Hairmyres - I'm guessing the three refers to the three being replaced since Hairmyres is new perhaps

A significant milestone on the project to enhance the East Kilbride to Glasgow railway line has been achieved this week.

Engineers completed major works across the route between Friday 19 and Monday 22 July, with passenger services now running, following the closure of the line during the work.

The closure of the line allowed the remaining steel pile foundations to be installed between Busby and Thornliebank as part of a £140m enhancement to electrify the railway.

Overhead line steelwork was installed over a viaduct near Busby with track side cabinets and more than 60m of cabling that power signalling equipment being relocated to the new Hairmyres station.

Ahead of these works starting, the project also completed the installation of 24 steel foundations that will support the new footbridge and lifts at Hairmyres.

Three more days of continuous works are planned for the last weekend in September (Friday 28 until Monday 30). This is to allow the demolition of bridges at Thornliebank Road and Westerton Crescent near Busby station.

Stephen McCall, Network Rail senior programme manager, said: “I would like to thank passengers and residents for their patience and understanding as we delivered these vital engineering works.

“Having an extended period on the railway allowed the enhancement project to take a significant step forward, as we’ve been able to deliver some elements more quickly.

“At the end of September, we have another opportunity to work continuously to deliver another major part of the project.

“Thornliebank Road bridge represents the largest civils structure we’re replacing on the route. To ensure efficiencies in terms of delivery, we’ll also remove the footbridge near Busby station at the same time. We’ll be updating the community and passengers in advance of this work starting.

“The project is now at a stage where people can really start to see the transformation of the railway environment, which ultimately will provide a more sustainable and reliable mode of travel for passengers.”

Network Rail and contractors SPL Powerlines, Story, AmcoGiffen, Siemens, Rail Systems Alliance Scotland and QTS are delivering the project as part of a wider Scottish Government investment to decarbonise railway passenger services.

The enhancement project is scheduled to complete in December 2025

Westerton "Crescent" is presumably a mistake for Lane.

So are all OLE foundations now done from the Glasgow end to Busby station?

Does this extend the short extra distance to the end of the main double track section?

I was thinking the same about Westerton Lane. I’m surmising that the LV cable referred to up thread runs through the bridge?

It's been several weeks since I've been down to Clarkson - quite a few masts up now.

There's talk of a new station entry at Clarkston. Anyone know where that's planned to be? I'd assumed the Goods Yard car park area.
Are they extending the southbound platform towards the car park? A direct link to the carpark would make a lot of sense.

OB EKE/031 Easterton Ave Bridge NOT to be confused with Westerton Lane Bridge, OB EKE/32, which, at presant, is being readied for re-decking. Unsure what is to happen to EKE/031 if anythinh. Some Pictures of EKE/031 anyway. Doubt if there are many pictures at this location. Piles Update today 31-07-2024 it now appears that ALL Piles are in from EKE/031 to EKE/032. Sorry about pics 11 & 12 but access from public areas and trackside Vegitation make it virtuall imposibe to get a good line of site of both bridges

Hopefully they will be removing the trees/bushes which are growing in between the bridge stonework before putting any wires up

OB EKE/031 Easterton Ave Bridge NOT to be confused with Westerton Lane Bridge,
Thanks. The grid reference in your first photo confirms that this is the bridge numbered 14 in my list in #2040, so I can now give it a name.

Great photographs and update. The line looks more like a nature reserve with railway-as-afterthought.

I assume the structures either side of the Clarkston bridge have been erected with the track lowering factored in.
Having walked past this morning, the masts/cantilevers look pretty high. While I was there a train went under the bridge, clearance looks tight but I’m sure it’s all been measured twice…..

I think there's a blockade due early next year. I suppose there may be several bridges requiring track lowering that could be done then. The number of bridges undergoing major reconstruction seems a good deal less than we were expecting a year or so ago.
