What does COP stand for here? And why would ASDO need to be overridden?

But I imagine the added diesel consumption when idling would be enough to reduce their range and require more frequent refuelling - though this may not be a problem depending on how often they are refuelled. As for raising at speed, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't that require upgrades to OHLE? If so, it may just be better to extend the line until the end of the platform. Of course none of this is solving Cambridge platform 5, which is the main issue as platforms 3 and 4 are most often used at Ipswich anyway.
Yes sorry, shouldn't assume everyone knows what COP stands for.

We have designated areas where we can raise them at up to 100mph.

ASDO if may have to be overidden in the example given as platform q at Ipswich would not accommodate two 755/4s. Drivers wouldn't accept that responsibility except in an emergency,

I always wondered what would happen if it had the pan up going towards bury at haughley and coldham lane junctions
Been done many times at locations such as this, Ely North & Trowse. Train comes to a stand before running out of wire. Driver starts diesels and continues

Interesting swap.
I’m guessing the same unit that works 1P06 should then work 1P25?

1P06 terminated at Ipswich due to a train fault (it would appear), so they’ve used an available four car and a three car to run 1P25 instead of cancelling it? Seems logical, and an unusual but not infrequent London departure off of Platform 5 at Norwich.

Yes 745010 rectified a fault at Ipswich possibly the traction motors overheated due to the hot weather conditions. platform 5 is normally for Lowestoft or Yarmouth as they’re shorter then platforms 1 to 4. Regarding the spare 3 & 4 car taking over 010, it’s on a very interesting diagram swap as it'll form 1P26 12:00 down Norwich, 1P45 14:30 up London then will do the 9P46 17:00 Norwich 95 then 1P63 19:00 up London then onto a late 1B36 21:31 Stansaid run then ending the day as 1B37 22:45 to London. Yet a very unusual rare chance to ride it later today. I suspect they might swap it with 745005 for the later airport runs as it isn’t booked to run today at the moment. Apparently nothings booked for the 1P35 12:00 up London swap to 1B78 14:13 airport with 108.

The 14:30 up was boosted by another unit and is 11 coaches.

Realtime Trains has 745107 on the 19:00. Looks like another 745 had problems at Harlow Town this afternoon. The 755 fleet are certainly proving their worth and flexibility today.

Wait, I remember when the 755 train wasn't on RTT's know your train. It must have been added recently

Been around six months or so now, maybe longer. Very helpful as just been asked what units I worked today and had no idea. Praise the good Lord for RTT :)

Thank Covid for that - otherwise the plan was to increase frequency on some services such as Peterboro to Ipswich and the therough London to Lowestoft, plus the much maligned Norwich in 90. So there might not have been the surplus of units that is enjoyed today.

I'm terrible at noting down which units I have been on too.

I only really pay attention as to whether they are 3 or 4 cars.

Good to see Norwich in 93 is back. Did it in 91 the other Saturday and that was with 3.5min dwell time at Ipswich and catching up a stopper between Marks Tey & Colchester.

That's longer than I expected, but still recent. Also never thought about reintroducing Norwich in 90, albeit its Norwich in sub-90.

Been thought about many many times but the DfT isn’t having any of it. The class 9s recently introduced SX & SO are better than nowt.

Norwich in 90 would be relatively easy with the 745s if you could get the free track to do it, it's the stoppers that get in the way. You could probably do the normal stopping pattern in 1hour 40 if there were a straight run

Oh yes it would but we have to give paths to freight whether they run or not. Achieving Ni90 with a couple of stops let alone one is easy peasy.

Literally it’s a shame they have to add diss to the Saturday 93 runs & for the weekly they add Stratford & stowmarket as of peak hour 95. I would recommend trying out the early morning 95 run back into london as the 9P19 08:00

All these stations and particularly Stratford are far too important to omit these days. It’s not just about Norwich-Liverpool Street anymore. The last two Saturdays I’ve worked the 19:00 down Diss has had around 70-80 passengers alight.

The 08:00(SX) up is also a prime service for passengers travelling Stowmarket to Ipswich so all these things have to be taken into account.

I would never be surprised if a Stratford call was inserted into the 08:57up on Saturdays in a future timetable.

we have noted this before that the issue is that the GE services have barely been retimed at all despite introduction of faster trains. Many of the services could be tweaked by a few minutes to facilitate a faster path between Stratford and Colchester. IIRC a retiming was planned to take place alongside the ECML timetable recast. And we all know what happened to that.
The Stratford stops are essential as it is such a huge interchange now - especially into the Elizabeth line but also HS1 for Kent, London Overground and DLR. It would make sense for all Norwich trains to stop there. If you live in East London, why would you want to travel all the way into Liverpool Street only to come back past Stratford?

Yes I think the big problem is getting the free track and not catching the stoppers up in front. As far as I can tell, without reducing line capacity there's very limited scope for improvement.

Yes not so surprised that it’s 2 of the exact same train having problems on the same day 745006 & 010. It eventually did a not so clear Norwich as of some track defect at Stratford in the evening. 007 swapped onto airport runs. 745005 came on did the 20:00 & 22:30 slot swap with 745107 swapping with the 7 car with the extra *424 added for the 14:30 down 17:00 95 up for the 19:00 return & onto 21:13 stansaid run. They wouldn’t run 755s on the stansaid express as already run the regional norwich Stansaid sometimes as a double to make it less confusing. As for 2 faulty 745/0s that means today will see the extra triple 755s more 745/1s on Norwich & 745/0s on airport runs.

I agree it would be extremely unusual (if not completely unheard of?) for a triple traction set to make it onto Stansted Express - however I don’t agree with your rationale. I don’t believe multiple 755s operate on the Norwich-Stansted route? These are four or three car maximum.
