The Wirral-specific issue is that the hospitals at Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge are brilliantly located for the M53 but either several miles from the nearest Merseyrail station (Arrowe Park) or down a combination of country lanes and motorway slip roads (Clatterbridge). There are also normally enough people to fill a couple of buses after a Tranmere home game, and one firm with a near monopoly on taxis. There aren't any Stagecoach buses on New Years Day on the Wirral either this year. Result is no bus services whatsoever on NYD in the Wirral.
The 82 and 87 have a combined frequency of every 10 minutes where they share route on that day.Is bustimes.org still pretty reliable for Timetable data? There used to be a warning on dates like New Year's Day saying data might not be accurate, but not seen one and seems to confirm areas that aren't running on New Year's Day.
Looking on there National Express West Midlands seem to have quite a frequent service out on New Year's Day. I was hoping on doing a bit of spotting at Birmingham on that day. Looking at the route 87 as a random route, it seems to be a 10 minute frequency; surprisingly busy when other areas outside are having no service at all.
7.47 am on Wednesday 27th here, no Sunday or Bank Holiday Services. Last bus to the nearest town was 1 1/2 Hrs ago.Christmas Eve now at just after 7pm. The last bus of the day has gone through the village about half an hour ago. No more buses now until 6.40am on Wednesday 27th December. This is how it will be on so many routes throughout wide areas of the country where there are no evening or Sunday buses.

Oh yes! Days can get confusing this time of year amd so easy to lose track of time. Edited it now. It's Christmas Eve today.
Route 4 between Burton and Swadlincote finished on Friday and does not start again until the 2nd! Fortunately a reasonable amount of the route is covered by other routes.Saturday 23rd December now at just after 7pm. The last bus of the day has gone through the village about half an hour ago. Isle of WightThose of us that do have bus services on Christmas Eve,& New Years Eve, it's a normal Sunday service with early finish (my area Wirral last buses are between 7pm & 8pm) are their any areas that are running a normal Sunday evening service, & not finishing early?
London has a full bus service until end of service on day routes with 24 hour routes ending around midnight. For those of us that do have bus services on Christmas Eve & New Years Eve, it's a normal Sunday service with early finish (my area Wirral last buses are between 7pm & 8pm). Are their any areas that are running a normal Sunday evening service, & not finishing early?
There are various examples with a normal or at least getting towards normal Sunday evening service, such as Bluestar, First Beeline, First Essex (with a few adjustments to the late airport services), Brighton & Hove until about 2200, Metrobus, Thames Valley Buses, Reading Buses (the 24 hour services, which operate to at least 2300 these days), Diamond Bus South East, Stagecoach South at the likes of Basingstoke and Winchester. Of course some normally finish earlier than others, e.g. mid-evening; there are plenty more with a normal Sunday service but who don't normally operate far into the evening on Sunday anyway. For those of us that do have bus services on Christmas Eve & New Years Eve, it's a normal Sunday service with early finish (my area Wirral last buses are between 7pm & 8pm). Everyone deserves a break, but the trouble with Christmas and New Year is that everyone wants it at the same time….Every one deserves a break.
Such a contrast to publicly owned Lothian Buses, and East Coast Buses. Villages between Edinburgh and North Berwick - some 20 miles away - have a service every day over the holidays including an hourly service for much of Christmas Day and New Year's Day. There's even 4 or 5 buses in the early hours of 1st Jan to get people home safely. Thank you Lothian Buses, and the drivers on duty.Saturday 23rd December now at just after 7pm. The whole of Go South Coast is running a normal Sunday service, apart from the handful of Swindon Bus routes that normally run until late evening. Even Unilink is running a full day for the first time. There are various examples with a normal or at least getting towards normal Sunday evening service, such as Bluestar...
Probably allows duties to be "self-breaking", i.e. driver breaks are built in. Also allows for the heavy traffic around the centre, especially if any incidents occur on the M60!There is quite a lot of layover in the 100 timetable!
Pre-COVID, Keighley had 3 routes in Christmas Day (one cross-town), making New Year's Day the only day I had no buses (though I could see 8 to 10 trains an hour going along the nearby railway line). In West Yorkshire on Boxing Day a special timetable operates with most core services operating every 30 minutes, although some are hourly and some are every 20 minutes during daytime hours
There is always interest for enthusiasts as you get interesting workings
First Leeds Bramley depot operate their own routes, plus those of Hunslet Park and also Bradford
First Huddersfield run their own services plus the few hourly routes that run in Halifax including the 508 to Leeds and 590 to Todmorden
Arriva Yorkshire often only open some of their depots and also have a rota where each driver keeps the same bus all day so their routes have gaps in the frequency in the middle of the day where there is a missing trip or two so the driver can have their lunch break
Harrogate Bus, Keighley Bus, Team Pennine (Huddersfield) and Flyer also operate some services
Batley, Cleckheaton, Dewsbury, Castleford, Ossett, Pontefract & Wakefield bus stations don’t open so buses either run from a near by on street stop or the out of hours stand at the bus station that is accessible from outside

Scotrail did run a service on Boxing Day, albeit a limited service!A point that has been mentioned over on the "Has public transport ever run on Christmas and Boxing day" thread has been the scheduling of sports fixtures for Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
You have people being told to, rightly, not drink and drive yet they are expected to attend horse racing and football on days when there are no trains running and the buses are either on a limited service or not running at all. (In Scotland, ScotRail doesn't run on New Year's Day in addition to Christmas and Boxing Days.)
Glasgow area plus a limited service out of Waverley, I believe.Scotrail did run a service on Boxing Day, albeit a limited service!
