Regarding The Buggles, Trevor Horn famously went on to remix and produce Frankie Goes to Hollywood's Relax.
and produced a boat loaf of other artists, becoming one of the best producers of all time.
He's also a fantastic bass player, just watch the princes trust performances, specifically close to the edit and slave to the rhythm.

Babybird you're gorgeous
They also had "The F Word" which I don't think charted as high as You're Gorgeous but was later used as the theme for the Gordon Ramsay TV series of the same name.

(Think I may have already posted this back up the thread)

Bryan Johnson - "Looking High High High" which came second in the 1960 Eurovision Song Contest and reached no 20 in the UK charts. Bryan was of course the brother of Teddy Johnson who had also come second a year earlier with Pearl Carr and their song "Sing little birdie".

Sinead O'Connor - Nothing compares to you

Now sadly died.
That song has been behind 98% of her musical mentions.

I preferred Maninka. I also found another song title of hers intriguing: Success Has Made a Failure of Our Home. ;)

A few more US bands (which I don't think have been mentioned yet) who have plenty of well known songs over there but are really only known for one big hit in the UK (even if they had other chart singles):

Steppenwolf - Born to be Wild
Journey - Don't Stop Believing
Alice Cooper - School's Out
Van Halen - Jump

And, I wonder if you asked a random sample of the general public, how many could name a Pink Floyd hit single other than Another Brick in the Wall?
Alice Cooper also had a hit with Poison.

I think most people could mention Money by Pink Floyd.

Yes, according to Wikipedia they had three other UK top ten hits: Showing Out (Get Fresh at the Weekend), FLM, and That's The Way It Is. Of those, I'd say Showing Out was their best known one.

Again "You're the Voice" was probably his best known song but he did have others such as Going Going Gone.

Here are a few more from the '80s:

Jona Lewie - Stop the Cavalry

Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Want to Have Fun

Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas?

Shakin' Stevens - Merry Christmas Everyone

Sinitta - He's Gotta Be So Macho

Kylie Minogue - I Should Be So Lucky
Cyndi Lauper had a hit with time after time.

Shakey was well known for Green Door and This Ole House

And Kylie has so many hits that I can’t get her out of my head.

I always associate Pink Floyd with 'See Emily Play'. Not sure if it was a hit but remember Nicky Horne playing it on his programme 'You're Mother Wouldn't Like It' on Capital - does that date me?

Re Pink Floyd and Money - it depends how one defines a hit - it wasn't released as a single, at least in the UK. They didn't release any singles in the 12 years before Another Brick in the Wall.

It was released in 1967 - Capital Radio only launched in 1973. A slow burner for you?

'Your Mother Wouldn't Like It' was a rock show rather than hit show, so would have played older songs.

A few from my 90s childhood:

Cornershop - Brimful of Asha
The Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You
Chumbawumba - Tubthumping
House of Pain - Jump Around
Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby

What's it called? It's called Cumbernauld
Unsure if already mentioned upthread, but one from 1990 and one from 1995:

Beats International - Dub Be Good to Me (1990) and Freak Power - Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out (1995).

Dub Be Good to Me sampled both the SOS Band's 1984 hit Just Be Good to Me, and also The Clash's Guns of Brixton.

Beats International was the project formed by Norman Cook, who was in The Housemartins, Freak Power, and presently performing under the pseudonym DJ Fatboy Slim today.

The Silver Beetles - It Doesn't Matter Anymore. (Although after changing their name and tweaking their lineup they went on to have a few more hits).

With the passing of Shane MacGowan, and with it being only just under a month til Xmas, it would seem appropriate to mention The Pogues - Fairytale of New York.

Freak power released "no way" in 98 that made top 30 and was performed on totp

Christ no. The Pogues released three albums of straight up genius during the 1980s. Much, much more than just that one song.

But only Fairytale got near the top, although The Irish Rover got to number 8. That Sally McLennane only got to Number 51 is mind-boggling. And of course there was the one they banned, sorry, the one they didn’t play.

Fairytale is a really good Christmas song, but that is against a pretty low bar. Most Christmas songs are dire.

(Personal opinions.)

Lil Louis - French Kiss
He was a prolific US DJ and producer but is only widely known for this (literally) monotonous house classic

"Club lonely" is a great song of his. Sasha played it during his legendary universe set in 92.
"I called U" was another hit of his and also in the early 2000s "How's your evening so far"

Very true, but none of those were at No.2 in the normal charts for weeks! (And I doubt too many would know those tracks outside of EDM circles.....)

Well it looks like you might be out of luck. Fairytale of New York is going to dominate the radio stations for the next few weeks, and there is even a campaign to get it to Christmas No.1 this year.

Fans of The Pogues are backing Fairytale of New York for the 2023 Official Christmas Number 1 single, following the death of the group's frontman Shane MacGowan, aged 65.

MacGowan's father Maurice, sister Siobhan and wife Victoria May Clarke announced the news of his death in a joint statement yesterday (November 30).
Fun fact: Fairytale of New York never made it to No.1 when it was originally released, peaking at No.2 when Pet Shop Boys’ Always on my Mind held the Christmas top spot in 1987.

May I offer another 1980s Christmas number: Chris Rea - Driving Home for Christmas.

Again I know he had multiple songs but am not sure if any of his others were particularly well known.

'How about Road To Hell', 'Auberge', 'Fool (If You Think It's Over)', to name a few?

IIRC didn't he have an Album very early on in his Career called 'Deltics'?

Edit: Just googled it and its from 1979 and yes it was named after the class 55's! I must admit I never knew this....

Me neither - you learn something new every day! Here it is, although this can't be the original video as it features some latter day footage (the EWS wagons and the modern digital station clock give it away. I suppose it might be the original video with more recent clips added, though):
