Has anyone seen any 508's around today and on what services please? Scored 507001 and 002 so fairly happy but would like some 508's before they go... particularly 139/141? Cheers

508141 is on the Southport line; it should be just starting the 1436 Hunts X - Southport. 508108 and 508120 are also both in this route, whilst 508104 and 508114 are stabled at Southport awaiting the peak.

508103 is on the Ellesmere Port line and 508131 the New Brighton route but I haven't seen 508139 yet.

508139 should be on the New Brighton line and 508136 is on West Kirby line.

508120 + 508104 on the 15:39 Southport - Hunts X, 508114 + 507016 on the 15:54 Southport - Hunts X if that's any help. Cheers for the info on the other 508s too

Thanks and no problem. Eventually managed to catch 507002 on the Chester line, so a good result all round.

508103/108/120/131 all on West Kirkbys today (the 5th West Kirkby diagram was a 777)

508104 attached to 507007 for 2U41 1539 Southport - Hunts Cross and 2S44 return, the other two 6 car planned services (2U42/2S46 & 2U43/2S47) being short formed 507030 and 508136 on their own respectively

104 stayed attached to 507007 after 2S44 and appears to be staying with it all night instead of finishing in Southport CS (Diagram finishes at Kirkdale)

Any sightings of 508141?

Four of the five booked six-cars on the Southport line short-formed is disgraceful. People are kicking up a shindy about it now and rightly so. Many passengers are being left at stations unable to board, and those 'lucky' enough to get on are subjected to appalling conditions.

Rumblings elsewhere that some 508s will now be retained into 2024. Surely this has to happen, and no more 508s should go for the foreseeable future until this dangerous situation is remedied.

The fact 2 more are likely to come out of service this week is mad. Doubt they will push the withdrawals back now unless units have spare miles sadly. They will rely on 777s coming into service I guess. 2 new units have come in in the last week so should in theory remove some pressure.

Most of and possibly all the remaining 508s have plenty of miles left. Some were last overhauled as recently as late 2021 so have plenty of potential time.

Makes the whole situation even more bonkers that does. Makes you wonder what the reason actually is for them not being allowed to operate into the new year. Money I suspect is a big one

I didn't see it today. Other 50x I saw were:
507002/004 508139 Chester
507013 Ellesmere Port
507017/021/033 New Brighton
507007 508114 Northern Line

West Kirby line units not mentioned as another poster has mentioned them further up.

Hope this is of interest to someone.

More than likely a factor I suspect. Just to clarify, the last 508 was actually overhauled in late 2021 not 2022 as I originally claimed, but that would still allow a good three years or more worth of service.

Thank you for these. I've been advised 508141 was on the Southport line.

Thanks, yes I saw a video of it working later on. I believe it may have finished on 2S71.
Should be into its final day possibly tomorrow.
I believe 508139 has finished at Birkenhead North E.M.U.D this evening. Interesting to see if its out tomorrow.

A video uploaded on the Merseyrail Electrics Youtube page, good to see the last 507/508 overhauled unit, 507003 taking centre stage, hopefully not long until its back out.

'A group of former Merseyrail engineers enjoyed a special tour around the Birkenhead depot recently, seeing the changes and improvements in the years since they worked there.
They reminisced about the previous fleet roll out of new trains which began 45 years ago, and remarked on the similarities with the current roll out of the Class 777 units.'

Merseyrail also uploaded a video of the 5:08 Sunset Tour.

A number of you were very helpful a few pages back in advising a clueless and geographically inept southerner where to stay next week to photograph the last remaining units, so we found a place bang in the centre of the Wirral. Where would I find a list of ‘likely‘ 507/8 diagrams for 15th to 22nd Nov please, if such a thing exists? Thank you in advance.

All Hunts Cross / Southport trains are 507/508.
Not sure about Wirral side diagrams, but probably around half are still 507/508.

All Southport/Hunts Cross services (10 diagrams).
4 Out of 5 West Kirby and 3 out of 4 New Brighton diagrams.

In addition you should find some 507/8s stabled at Southport and be able to view some at Birkenhead North depot from passing trains.
