TfW withdrawals (Now just 150/158s to go)

Probably just getting old and not used to as much long distance work (both towards Manchester & also towards Holyhead).
It will be interesting to see the MTIN figures in Modern Railways this year. Since February, the average daily mileage for the 150s has been quite a lot higher. Fewer stops and reversals will probably mean a better MTIN.

Gosh, one can tell from this that you're not served by the 150s regularly. As someone who gets solely 150s at the local station, I cannot wait for them to pee off elsewhere!
We’ll gladly take more down in Devon. They may be simple and old but the certainly are dependable units.

I remember when these was brand new to FNW in 2000, think they replaced the old 309s? Usually got them from Chester to Man Pic, when I had family over there.

Yes, they did, but only in part, also replaced the Met Camm 101s as well from the Marple, Rose Hill and Hope Valley lines, including Chester to Manchester Piccadilly via Plumley, and North Wales Blaenau Branch and some Holyhead services, plus Saturday Manchester to Blackpool services to enable 175, mainly North Wales and Blackpool and Cascade 142 150 156 Onto Marple, Hope Valley lines and Manchester to Chester via Plumley.

Not sue how you can prefer a 150 to the superior ride quality and comfort of a 170, a 158 yes, a good alternative.
Hear, hear. The 150s are horrid. Engine noise. Wind noise. Doors banging. No air conditioning. Engine fumes. The list goes on. Despite how bashed up the 170s are internally, they are superior for my journeys to and from Lydney in every respect.

I think it's clear from the context of what thread this is and 2000 that it's the Class 175s...
Don’t be sarky. I made this thread to discuss the withdrawals of five different class types. We discussed 150s immediately above. My question was perfectly reasonable.

Either way, this thread isn’t in Railway History and Nostalgia

I agree, but then this thread is to track the withdrawals rather than compare models, so I won’t elaborate

I agree..They have worked the majority of the long distance services from South Wales to Manchester in the last six months so little wonder they are starting to struggle.

How many sprinters are left in the North now, I've seen quite a few different 150s on the borderlands line in recent weeks

175115 is in the sidings east of Chester station. There was a further 175 in the sidings next to platform 7 and another, annoyingly, parked up behind 197108 in the depot, so that its identity wasn't visible from my TfW service.

175113 was there today at 1235 or so when I took the photo, and when I passed at around 1244 the 175 next to 197108 was 175105 :) 105 was still there with the 197 when I passed again around 1910 today, and while I didn't look for 113 I'd imagine it was too.

I've put the photos in my latest trip report, which went live a few minutes ago, but I've included them here too 8-)

Ah thank you! I was on the diverted 1V39 yesterday, eventually going to Exeter (what a great decision that was!) so had neither space nor time to investigate further, so thank you for that information :) Rather annoying looking at the comfortable, three-coach 175s from my packed 150!

175105 was behind 197108 on the depot around 1200 Friday.

No problem 8-) It makes a change for me to be able to provide assistance!

I am intrigued as to what service 1V39 is and what happened on your trip!

Overheard from a radio, problems with the rear doors on the 1454 CDF MAN 150, so I definitely stand by my thoughts that they’re starting to be let go in terms of condition

Also, these two are still here, way past time!

270 has been having door interlock issues I know.... but it seems odd that they keep repeating.

This is 175110 passing the Camden Railcam camera on its way to Ilford. It was operated as a Rail Operations Group service.

I went to Chester on Thursday and managed to get pictures of 175110 and 175115 in the long siding up to Hoole Lane. Also caught 175105 on Chester Depot and 175001 coming in to Chester from Crewe Gresty Green. I was looking at 175115 from an angle and couldn’t see any staining from any of the engines on the track. I was surprised to hear that 115 had its engine running for a long while, especially as there are bungalows and terraces next to the unit!
