Thought the wires were only live upto miles platting.
It was mentioned upthread in the spring that the OLE was about to be energised from Bromley Street (the previous end of the OLE on Miles Platting bank) to Baguley Fold.

I'm not an expert like the others in this discussion, but I suspect that when they say the DNO for Stalybridge TSC is live, they just mean the low voltage needed to swich the high voltage on and off. It's not the same as saying the OLE is live to Stalybridge.

Precisely what I thought. "Hotel power", if you will, for the TSC itself. Traction power comes later.

The DNO for Stalybridge TSC is already in and live
But the short circuit testing is outstanding, and Countess St DNO(/TSC) is the location where that testing is undertaken.

The key term is "considered live". That means the traction power OLE may or may not be live depending on testing status, but should always be treated as live.

here to eternity
Once again can we confine posts here to updates on the scheme.

Discussion about possible timetabling once the works are complete can be found here:

thanks

Couple of pictures of Stalybridge today.

The east end is basically wired. I don’t think the feeder is connected.

I also drove past Ashton station and it is clearly fully wired.

(Sorry, it was hot, sunny and I only had a few minutes)

Press release but no details of where the work is.

Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) is reminding passengers traveling along the railway line between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds, and York to plan their journeys ahead of time, as they upgrade tracks over weekends in September and October.

Over these two months, engineers working on the multi-billion-pound project will excavate ballast (railway stone) to create new track beds, replace approximately 650 meters of railway tracks and install new drainage systems.

This essential work will enable trains to achieve higher speeds and enhance the overall reliability of services passing through the area in the future, as the number of railway tracks will increase from two to four.

While the railway line is temporarily closed to facilitate these upgrades, passengers will continue their journeys through a combination of diversionary routes and rail replacement buses.

Gareth Hope, Sponsor for the Transpennine Route Upgrade said "Between September and October, engineers will be working each weekend to upgrade the railway tracks. This work is a crucial component of our broader upgrades, not only allowing for faster train travel but also improving service reliability in the future. We are committed to ensuring a seamless transition during the upgrades, with diversionary routes and rail replacement buses in place to keep customer moving."

"I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while the work takes place and remind customers to check www.nationalrailenquiries.co.uk or their respective train operators if traveling during this period."

Chris Nutton, Major Projects Director for TransPennine Express, said: “These improvement works are key to the overall modernisation of the railway that will be taking place as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, which will help deliver a faster and more sustainable service for our customers who travel between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York.

“We’d like to thank our customers in advance for their patience while this work take place. To keep customers on the move, there will be some changes to our services, including diversions on some routes and rail replacement buses on others, and we advise customers to check carefully before travelling. We’ll have extra staff on hand at stations to help customers who are travelling on days affected by this work.”

The track upgrades take TRU one step closer to their vision of creating a cleaner, greener, and more reliable railway system. This will bring improved connectivity and travel experiences to passengers traveling across the Pennines.

Notes to Editors

Over the multiple weekends, engineers will excavate ballast (railway stone) to create a new track bed formation, which will then allow the installation of new rail and sleepers. Additionally, a new track drainage system will be installed.

No mention that this is just the start of maybe a decade's worth of TP upgrade work and the associated disruption.
I'm reminded of the desperate times around 2000-2003 when the route through Stockport was being upgraded.
After many weekends (over several years) remodelling the tracks, the plug was pulled and the old layout restored.
The 5 manual (fixed block) signal boxes which were supposed to go are still there.
The owners (Railtrack and then Network Rail) never gave any indication of how long the work would last, or what the benefits would be.
At the end the SRA said it was a local project and not part of their wider WCRM project.

I think I've completely lost track of how this project is structured, but do we have a timetable for even finding out what will be proposed between Stalybridge and Huddersfield?

Not really. "Electrified throughout" is about the only promise.
I doubt the design has yet been finalised, much less how "NPR" will tie into it at "Marsden".
We do know that something vast like £11 billion has been allocated for the overall IRP work on the route.
"Digital signalling" is also promised, but that is likely to be after the line east of Stalybridge is resignalled conventionally into York ROC.

Thanks. I think I keep seeing "electrified throughout" written on press releases and thinking "Oh, cool, they must at least have a plan to have a plan and I've missed it" but apparently not.

The TRU web page "https://thetrupgrade.co.uk/projects/" gives an overview of the current plans but is sadly lacking in any timescales. Stalybridge to Huddersfield appears to be the last part of the TRU since it is potentially affected by the Northern Powerhouse Rail project.

Re TRU it appears from RTT data that Northern are running late night buses York to Leeds this week coming,

Also from the December timetable late night buses also appear,

Possible sign of regular overnight blocks between Church Fenton and Leeds?

There were mentions of a safety stand-down in posts #7113-#7125 on 28-29 Aug but I hadn't heard about the cable.

There was a signal failure at Dewsbury that lasted several days, wonder if that was related?

Platform 8 at Huddersfield was closed on Sunday, and the track alongside Platform 5 had a number of people working around the track including some kind of "digger" machine driving in the bay.

Batman in Mirfield today. The bat expert checking the cottages at Heaton Lodge junction for bats and signs of, before they knock the cottages down soon, part of the TRU work, rehoming the bats when they find them. photo in first link below (flickr)

Got the train to York this afternoon, had a look out of the window, and it appears there is continuous OLE from Church Fenton and THROUGH Colton Jn, on the Up Leeds line at least.

Previously the new OLE and existing OLE terminated at the same stanchion, but they have tied it together. Assuming the new wiring is not yet energised.

So much for needing a Christmas blockade to do it.

Will have a look at the Down Leeds on my way back tomorrow.

Fairly sure both Leeds lines and the Dn Normanton have had their "tie-in" wires run (i.e. through the Carrier Wire Neutral Section). This was likely done during the BH weekend, as I passed through Colton on the 29th and the copper looked fresh off the drum at the time!

Do they need to modify sectioning arrangements here is why the Xmas possessions are required?

It's about six weeks since I last linked the relevant thread on Skyscrapercity, where Freel07 has been continuing to post pictures of the Ashton/Stalybridge area, where visible progress has slowed as the works near completion. Recent events on the thread include a discussion about surge arresters and a link to a 2020 Rail Engineer article on the subject. The person known there as "wrinkly" is me.

The picture of P1 at Victoria concerning insulators appears to show that the unsightly hoardings have come down next to the P1 track.
Is that the case?
I never understood why that area was barriered off, and they've been in place for several years without any obvious work going on.
