Serving the station properly rather than the stop further down the road would surely be better. The downside of this are the traffic queues on the Holgate road although these are not like they used to be.
Interesting times for York buses!

They should be retained and placed onto the X63/363 (Huddersfield to Bradford) or better still the 398/399 Storthes Hall uni shuttle that'd free up a decker or two. Quick lick of paint and no one will tell that they were used elsewhere.
I guess you were being sarcastic as I'm not sure how well an artic would do on Storthes Hall Lane, the junction with Pensitone Road is a bit of roller-coaster ride followed by a prolonged climb (with some buses reputedly not making it to the top).

York’s new electrics are due to be phased into service gradually from the 28th if all goes well. Initial deployment on 1s and 4s with double deckers then rolled out across all city routes from then with single deckers following after

Partially in regards to the Storthes Hall routes, but not the X63/363 as this is the only route which would be suitable for the Artic Citarios in West Yorkshire (the 1, 1B and the N1 Beeston/Leeds to West Park are far too busy and require the deckers and the hairpin turn in West Vale for the 503 is too sharp).

However looking at the latest Notices and Proceedings on page 16 - First West Yorkshire have withdrawn the 398/399 from the 1st September 2023 and is not replaced, unless another operator is looking at taking over the route between now and when the university term starts. https://assets.publishing.service.g..._data/file/1177798/np_2592_11_August_2023.pdf

Just saying - classic the 1/1B/N1 as too busy for artics but able to cope with deckers is a paradox as artics take >40 more people than the Streetdecks...

Using bendies on the X63 would mean boarding at one of the stands on the corridor down to Westgate which are currently only used for alighting (or avoiding Huddersfield bus station entirely and using one of the town centre stops). That corridor is quite narrow and doesn't have space for benches, so having services departing from there wouldn't be the best idea. Supposedly when the bus station was refurbished around the turn of the century it was supposed to be made suitable for bendy buses, but no operator has tried to use them in Huddersfield anyway.

Hmmm.... 15 year old bendies with high fuel consumption on an intensive, hilly, inter-urban service that is perfectly happy with deckers? Not seeing it myself.

Unless they head to Aberdeen (and that is in doubt), I see a trip to another part of Yorkshire fairly soon.

They are going for scrap. Confirmed 100% internally

Just for clarity, they aren't going onto the X63- I was just pointing out that they wouldn't really be suitable for it anyway, in response to a suggestion that they could.

For clarity back at ya.... I didn't think for a minute that YOU were suggesting it :D I was agreeing with you

I am not at all surprised. Old, expensive to run, non-standard, and the rumoured move to Aberdeen seemed rather speculative.

On paper at least - in reality there isn’t the physical space for a full load. Capacity is based on weight/axle load divided by an average person weight.

With 398/399 being withdrawn from September I wonder what will happen to E400s that are normally used on the route, will they get transferred to Halifax so that all of the type are at one depot?

Trust me - with students you can get all 147 on. Been there, done it, got the t-shirt (freshers week in York we normally get all 5 working for - not this year though, 11105 already withdrawn)

There is a rumour that the Halifax ones are going to Oldham in exchange for B9s and all Oldham's E400s might go to Stagecoach when they take over. How true this is is a waiting game.

Just spotted 3 new First York branded electrics sitting at Belfast Docks awaiting transfer over. Possibly travelling this evening on the 22.30 ferry to Liverpool.

Fleet numbers?
According to a post on 'FirstBus Enthusiasts' by Chris Munden, all that can be confirmed at the minute is 63646 - MA23 TPZ. I'd keep an eye out for the next info release on www.buslistsontheweb.co.uk (BLotW) at 9pm tonight!

Edit: MA23 TPZ is the only registration confirmed as far as I can find on www.regit.cars. Not sure where the series will go from here; looking around the MA23 T** range on the site, it looks a bit all over the place at the minute.

Edit 2: Can also confirm 63651 is to be registered ML73 DYH per this Flickr post:

They could end up (in the short term at least) being used as pool vehicles and allocated to no particular route but if/when/ever an X3 is introduced between Halifax and Huddersfield (as I've been told that something is being done to the route this year) then the Enviro400's could be allocated to that, new route = new buses.

Two observations:

1. There are several of York’s electroliners and kite EVs in the Hunslet Park depot due to lack of space in James St for now, the Kites also have camera mirrors unlike the photo circulating of one with physical mirrors

2. There were ~10 E400s and B7/B9TLs (couldn’t tell) with Halifax branding parked up at Elland Road, presumably using this as overflow parking for Hunslet Depot

The latter, possibly about to be used on Leeds festival shuttles?

News from buslistsontheweb.co.uk (BLotW), GB Kite Registrations confirmed so far are:
  • 63646 - MA23 TPZ
  • 63647 - MA23 ???
  • Without fleet number listed (yet) are MA23 TRV, MA23 TRZ and MA23 TSO
With September coming thick and fast, I’m wondering if some of these will get their registrations cancelled for 73-plates, a-la bus batches in London? If I’m being honest, that has always struck me as odd, never understood how that worked

Are there any planned dates for the new York EVs and Kites will be introduced. Presumably, the Kites will replace the artics in the first instance or am I wrong? Thanks

Electroliners are rolled out from the 28th on 1s and 4s initially

Then just a cascade over the next few weeks for everything else (incl. kites)

Bendy buses leaving needs 2s to be registered with the alteration down Boro'bridge Road, and the use of Metrodeckers on 2s will commence. Kites and Electroliners are not planned to be used on P+R at all, but will inevitably cover some, much like city buses currently do when a P+R bus is unavailable

Presumably the 2s will never actually use the Boro’bridge road.
On another York matter why does the 7 P&R stop at every stop whereas the 59 P&R stops only at a few selected stops? I know one local who is furious that they go up and down frequently with so few people on. They tell me that on Sunday it is especially frustrating! On one Sunday, whilst waiting a long time for a 5, they did get on a 59 and tried to persuade the drive to stop at “their stop”. He refused. It would make both the Boro’bridge and Poppleton roads much more attractive to bus users if the 59 stopped at all stops. I might even come home more that way instead of using the 24, 412, and the 1s!

I can understand wanting buses to stop at your local stop, but it's not up to each driver and they may get in trouble if they oblige. To have any chance he needs to discuss with the company through their official channels.

The original York P&R services were mainly 'local services' which also served the Park & Ride. This had the benefit of providing a higher frequency local service than perhaps was commercially viable. However the 59 is a newer route and as it overlaps the frequent 5/5A it was presumably decided not to abstract from this service. Unfortunately post COVID the timetable of the 5/5A has become dire (if anyone can describe the frequency, well done)
