180111 and 180110 are as of now (just after 2am) coupled together and stopped in the up goods loop outside Melton Mowbray. They've been stopped there for at least 7 or 8 hours, not sure if they came under their own power though.

I really doubt there'll be takers. With plenty of more reliable Voyagers/Meridians coming spare, and GC seemingly moving away from 180s, I would've thought they'd get scrapped sooner rather than later.

GC are not at this moment in time moving away from 180s. Currently looking at the lease of 2 Voyagers to free up 180s being rotated for spares. Unknown if this is temporary. Alot up in the air currently.

I wrote to Angel asking whether I could buy some of the fixtures as “memorabilia” if they’ve decided to scrap them - a first class table and its seats would be quite a quirky addition to the lounge! Anyway, their Contracts Manager has just replied to me stating that there are no plans to scrap them. Text in his email to me as follows:
“Angel Trains Class 180 off lease, are in storage with the view to release them as and when opportunities arise. At present there are no plans to dispose.”

As ever, ROSCOs wanting every last pound out of their asset, so not a surprise to be honest.
I'm not sure I ever found a 180 first class seat in the EMR sets that wasn't quite thoroughly broken!

I'm not suggesting that anyone would want this to happen, but how doable would it be to harvest the center carriages of a 180 and use them to add a carriage to the 175s? I'm just thinking would a 4 carriage 175 or a uniform fleet of 3 carriage 175s be more attractive to an operator like Chiltern or GWR? Are the non driving carriages 180s fundamentally different to those of a 175?
Again, not suggesting that this is something that would happen, more gauging if it would be possible in a post EMR 180 world?

There is however a leap of faith involved in Angel Trains receiving a serious enquiry from anyone wanting to lease class 180s. Not sure how long their current fitness to run certificates are valid for, but maybe get them off to Sims before the six months elapses.
As "Energy" states 175s have N14 14 litre engines whilst 180s have Cummins QSK19s
Not sure if the vehicles could be made to multi with each other. Perhaps, if possible, the QSK19s could be derated.
Overall though it doesn't seem to be a fix worth investing in.

I've had a similar thought. I suppose in an age of turning 1990s EMUs into DMUs/Tri mode units, anything is possible.
The work involved would, however, be very extensive. You'd need to replace the engine and gear box, likely most of the wiring, re-program the TMS and that's before you've got to the state of the bodyshell (corrosion etc).
I'd imagine such a situation would be market led - ie: GWR or Chiltern would have to see a significant benefit in making such an investment. Its highly unlikely the ROSCO would do it on the basis of seeing if anyone bites. You'd also have to consider the return on investment - how much life are you likely to get out of 25 year old trains vs the cost of work?
In summary, I can't see it being a very likely scenario - however - both types of adelante have had a surprisingly long career given their numerous, well-publicised issues, so, I guess anything is possible!
