I would think a local Marston service could gladly sit within Chiltern's diesel pool and drivers, and indeed - keep the new rails greased via Quainton with stock moves to Aylesbury, in advance of a passenger service.

Stock will likely sit at Bletchley, Vale sidings were being looked at.

I would think a local Marston service could gladly sit within Chiltern's diesel pool and drivers, and indeed - keep the new rails greased via Quainton with stock moves to Aylesbury, in advance of a passenger service.

It seems rather unlikely that stock for Bedford - Bletchley services would be maintained at Aylesbury, or even operated by Chiltern. There is certainly no mention that that is even an option currently although the opening of Stage 2 of EWR is so far in the future who knows what might happen.

Effectively a small sub fleet not very efficient way of managing a cash strained railway so DfT better provide sufficient funding.

According to the contract (linked in post 3) all the 165s and 168s leases currently expire 12/12/27

Whilst that date might have come about due to contract expiry, some of the 165s will be 37 years old by then, and the oldest 168s almost 30 years old. There is a fair chance that a new standard fleet would follow and sub-fleet could be returned.
