Unfortunately it’s the end of the road on this occasion for me :( I didn’t meet the required score for the CBI.. I’m a bit lost as I thought it went quite well and also got a lot of the typical phrases in they look for. Good luck to the rest of you with your tests & interviews and I wish you all the best in the future! :)

Sorry to hear that mate. What's the crack now then? Can you apply for a toc that uses MMI immediately or is there a wait still? I'm sure you'll smash it next time.

I’m not sure tbh! I’ve left my details for them to contact me back with feedback.. I’m actually starting a new job with freightliner in the new year as a shunter so I was going to go down the driving route with them if Avanti didn’t happen.
Also, he seems to think that you’d get 2 shots at the MMI even if you’d not passed the CBI as it’s not the same thing? Not sure if that’s the case if anyone could shed some light on that?

I am left wondering - part of succeeding in interviews is being able to stand out as a candidate, yet the CBI as far as I am aware is not a typical interview. As such, does being a stand-out candidate for the right reasons also help here or should that be saved for the DMI when they're also assessing whether or not they want you in their workforce amongst other things?

Surely you’d want to stand out in both interviews…?? Your answers in the CBI need to stand out and hit the criteria.

Yeah, I figured that may have been the case, but since it's a somewhat unique kind of interview I couldn't be so sure.

Not really sure the CBI is to stand out as everyone gets the same questions. I think the whole point is to match your answers to what they're looking for out of the question. Such as safety critical questions will probably want a safety critical answer.

Obviously this is all a guess I guess I'll find out on the 5th

This is probably why most people dread that stage more than any others, myself included.

Your fail for cbi will now overwrite your mmi pass which freightliner require. If you had passed your cbi then it would still overwrite your mmi so in theory if freightliner do a check when you start you don't now have the required pass needed.
You should contact opc and confirm this as this is what has been said in the past

I’ve not done an MMI before Jonsutt, this was the first time doing an interview/tests. The job I’m starting for FL doesn’t require driving at this stage so I only had to do psychometrics. Do you know if I now get potentially 2 shots at an MMI or will it just be the one?

No, FL use MMI

My understanding is one but best to email OPC and get verification

Which TOCs/FOCs use CBIs?
(Apart from Avanti).

Iv failed my MMI once, passed second time. By sitting the CBI it overrides my current MMI. And turns it into a 'fail'. But I would have two lives at a CBI.

I genuinely don't think a CBI can override the MMI result, this whole debate seems absurd! And it doesn't help that OPC cannot seem to clarify!
But If CBI is TOC specific, then why would it matter if it was failed twice because the other TOCs don't use it?

No different to DFFT. You can fail that twice and still have your lives remaining for those who don't use it.

The only way (logically) it should override MMI is if its 'recognised' as a more superior test and henceforth accepted in place of MMI across all TOCs if you hold a valid pass, but we know this is not the case.
So it begs the question, how can a life be lost for a test that a TOC doesn't validate? Secondly, how can a CBI result override an MMI which is a completely different test? Thats like failing a manual driving test overriding your existing automatic pass?

This post is all opinion btw.

Hi all,

Just a quick question for those who have been successful with the Stage 2 tests and the CBI. Have you received emails/invites from Avanti yet with details of your DMI?

I completely agree with you on this mate. If I now choose to apply to a FOC who use the MMI then surely my “2 lives” will still be available for the MMI with freightliner. I’ve passed all tests to enhanced on the first go also so no lives lost there.

Hoping the OPC can clarify this for me when I speak to them regarding my feedback from the CBI.
Currently have a lot of pressure on my shoulders now that I only get 1 crack at this MMI otherwise thats it! :s

Did the feedback you got from your first fail, in your opinion, give you the pass the second time? Or did you switch up your answers?

Also hoping you’re right with the two shots at the different interview even though you’d previously failed the MMI once before!

I knew where I went wrong, went into the second attempt and used the same answers and passed.

But my current MMI isn't valid for Avanti.

Hi, Freightliner did a round of recruitment for trainee drivers last week for quite a few depots, did you put in an application? If not, keep a close eye out. It came and went very quickly.

I was aware they were recruiting but didn’t see it to put in an application. Im
Starting there in a few weeks anyway so I think the plan now is to get my foot in the door and then apply internally when they next come up. Presumably I’d need to wait 6 months now anyway? Unless the MMI is in fact different to CBI and you can reapply for that straight away?…

Yeah you need to wait 6 months to apply for another driver job. But you should go straight into the MMI/CBI

Congratulations to everyone whose made it through stage 2 and the CBI! That is without a doubt the most daunting stage for a lot of us, myself included. Got Watford on the 6th, and despite my confidence in being able to get through the computer stages with a bit more practice, the CBI is the stage where I think that I'm most likely to fail. Forget crossing my fingers, I'm also crossing my arms and legs.

Can anyone give advice/answer this question?
So I’m through to the computer tests and only have to take the WAFV having failed this around a year ago with another TOC. My question to the OPC was if I was to pass this to Avanti standard but then fail the CBI (I have never sat an MMI) would I have no lives left? Is the CBI separate from the computer tests?

Your CBI/MMI counts towards your lives. So my understanding is that you'd have no more chances with Avanti but you would have a chance with another TOC who uses MMI even though they apparently overwrite each other.

But it is a bit of a grey area

Sat the Stage 2 and CBI yesterday, just had my email informing me I have passed and awaiting contact from Avanti for the DMI!
Congratulations!
