Welcome home to a fully Low Floor Workington Town Services today.
47006 and 47616 on Harrington.
47005 and 22599 on Seaton. 22599 replaced 34218 on the 17:00 departure.
47061 on Moorclose 50.
47059 on Moorclose 51.
Only seen 15683 and 15684 on long 300.

Well... Another day of History in Workington today then.

Plus in my news I might be going up to Lillyhall depot to do work experience some time this year.

Either we are back to the norm, or Whitehaven were suffering... either of which is fine :) 34079 should be back soonish too apparently, as its been in the workshops. Wonder how bad it will be this time - don't think it could get any worse

Dunno if this has already been posted but I'll post it anyway:

Stagecoach Group today confirmed details of orders for around 340 buses and coaches worth nearly £50million.

The latest orders by the Perth-based transport group take its total investment in new vehicles for the UK for the 2010-11 financial year to around £65 million.

It follows the launch by Stagecoach of Britain’s biggest single investment in green hybrid bus technology with 30% less carbon emissions than standard vehicles. The first of the £16m investment in 56 state-of-the-art electric-hybrid buses for Oxford and Manchester went into service last month, part-funded by a £5million support package from the Department for Transport’s Green Bus Fund.

The latest orders announced today will go into operation on Stagecoach’s provincial bus routes across the UK, further improving the standard of travel for passengers in Scotland, England and Wales. The new buses and coaches, which will be introduced throughout 2010-11, meet Euro 5 emissions standards introduced last year.

It takes Stagecoach’s investment in new vehicles to more than £260million over the past four years, providing passengers with higher quality travel and better accessibility. Stagecoach is also officially Britain’s best value major bus operator, with fares up to 30% cheaper than the UK’s other major transport groups.

Les Warneford, Managing Director of Stagecoach UK Bus, said: “Not only does Stagecoach offer the best value bus fares in Britain, we are also committed to driving up the quality of travel for our passengers by investing millions of pounds each year in greener vehicles, better facilities and improved services.

“This latest investment is a sign of our confidence in future demand for bus travel. We believe continued investment is vital to attract even more people on to our greener, smarter bus services.”

Vehicle manufacturers Alexander Dennis, Scania, Plaxton, Optare and Volvo will supply a total of 163 double-deckers, 70 single-deckers, 79 midi-buses, 17 coaches and 9 mini-buses.

Details of the new orders are:

100 Scania Enviro 400 double-deckers
63 Alexander Dennis Enviro 400 double-deckers
70 Alexander Dennis Enviro 300 single-deckers
76 Alexander Dennis Enviro 200 midi-buses
16 Volvo Plaxton Elite coaches
3 Optare Versa midi-buses
9 Optare Solo mini-buses
1 Volvo Plaxton Panther coach

Stagecoach orders 520 new vehicles for UK

12/01/2011 The orders for 2011/2012

Transport group to buy 360 buses and coaches for UK regions
Fleet of 160 vehicles to be leased for London operations
Passengers across UK benefit from investment in greener buses
Orders bring UK spend on new vehicles in past four years to nearly £290m
Stagecoach Group today (Wednesday 12 January) announced multi-million-pound plans to buy and lease a total of more than 520 new buses and coaches for its operations across the UK in 2011-12.

The Perth-based transport group is investing £52million in 360 new buses and coaches for the coming financial year. These vehicles will be introduced in the company’s regional bus networks across the UK, further improving the standard of travel for passengers in Scotland, England and Wales.

Stagecoach has also confirmed plans to lease more than 160 new state-of-the-art vehicles for its bus operations in London, which were acquired in October 2010.

The new orders follow an annual tendering process and all of the vehicles meet the latest Euro 5 emissions standards. The latest boost for passengers is in addition to investment in more than 60 hybrid electric buses, which was announced late last year.

It will mean Stagecoach is now buying or leasing more than 580 new buses and coaches for the UK in the 2011-12 financial year and the company's investment in new vehicles outside London over four years will reach nearly £290million.

Les Warneford, Managing Director of Stagecoach UK Bus, said: “As well as offering the best value bus fares in Britain, we are driving up the quality of travel for our customers by investing in greener vehicles, better facilities and improved services.

“Minimising carbon emissions is a key factor in our investment programme. We want to play our part in reducing the impact of travel on the environment. We believe there is a big opportunity to attract car users to the benefits of greener, smarter bus travel and cut our own carbon footprint.”

Vehicle manufacturers ADL, Scania, Plaxton and Volvo will supply a total of 255 double-deckers, 74 single-deckers, 166 midi-buses, 28 coaches and 64 Hybrid vehicles. The new vehicles are expected to go into service by April 2012.

Details of the new orders are as follows:

UK bus orders outside London:
127 ADL Enviro 200 midibuses
91 ADL Scania Enviro 400 double-deckers
50 ADL Scania Enviro 300 single-deckers
40 ADL Enviro 400 double-deckers
24 ADL Enviro 300 single-deckers
28 Plaxton Volvo coaches
47 ADL Enviro 400 Hybrid double-deckers (26 for Newcastle, 21 for Sheffield)
17 ADL Enviro 200 Hybrid midibuses (8 for West Scotland, 9 for Perth)

London Bus Operations:
124 ADL Enviro 400 double-deckers
39 ADL Enviro 200 midibuses

Sorry about how much space it has taken up, they're not in the N&P's yet for me to copy the smaller versions over.

SORRY! typo meant 18362

Does anyone know where the 4 ex PB solos that have been repainted and are now sitting at CE are heading? I know we discussed it a few weeks ago but have there been an developments?

Only ones in service AFAIK are 47753/4 at Frenchwood, working on a range of services. With the additional Solo from Morecambe, this means that Frenchwood has more than enough Solos to cover all mini bus work and therefore less odd Dart workings on to minibus routes should now occur.
A 3rd vehicle in the new Preston Bus scheme is 28511, looks like they are doing the Scania's first before possibly moving on to the remaining Tridents in Stagecoach colours, although there has been rumours in the local press of a full service review by Rotala.
Expect to see 14196 on a X3 University dupe after coming off its school contract tomorrow morning! ;)

Would be nice to have the short 3s between Uni and town throughout the day as X3s rather then 3's. Makes little difference but would be nice lol. Sometimes drivers do put X3 on the blinds sometimes.

I believe there was supposed to be a few more changes, which haven't came up on VOSA yet. The connecting service for Keswick - Penrith hasn't shown, neither have changes to 300 and 600.

As far as I am aware only Kendal and Morecambe are to benefit from the new order. This of course may change etc.

Think its fair to name it the best Volvo Olympian in West Cumbria! 20436 replaced 22598 on there too, which caused a little bit of traffic problems in Whitehaven  Sat blocking a junction with its hazard lights on

from Stagecoach website:
CLOSURE OF A597 AT HARRINGTON, AFFECTING SERVICES 30, 31, 85, 301.

ROADWORKS/ DISRUPTIONS

Due to the need to execute urgent repairs at the High Harrington railway bridge on the A597, the road will be closed with effect from Monday 21st February for a period of approximately 5 days.
Temporary arrangements will be as follows:
Services 30, 31, 85 and 301 will divert from Workington Bus Station via the A596 to Lillyhall, then join the A595 and resume the normal route through Distington (and vice versa).

Services 46, 46A & 46B to Harrington will continue to operate as normal.

A new, temporary shuttle service will operate from Workington Bus Station to link both sides of the road closure. The shuttle will link Salterbeck Road, Harrington, Moorclose Road, Moorclose shops and Annie Pit with Workington Bus Station. On the other side, the shuttle will link Workington with Scaw Road, High Harrington and the A597 as far south as the roundabout with the A595, near the College.

Timetable for the shuttles.

I agree there, with 16184 best Volvo Olympian in West Cumbria very shifty little bugger I dunno about it's interior, it's not the best but not the worst either.

You said 20436 replaced 22598 on 30/31, well 22598 was on there at about 16:30 bound for Maryport on 31.

I hope that so called 'Pleasant Gesture' dosen't happen to me tomorrow lol I'm talking about the picture you took of 47007 on Mirehouse.

22598 was on the time slot behind 16184 this morning. 20436 was on that slot this afternoon, after being sat on the annexe this morning.

Would be nice to have the short 3s between Uni and town throughout the day as X3s rather then 3's. Makes little difference but would be nice lol. Sometimes drivers do put X3 on the blinds sometimes.

The X3 are not really X at the moment as the only difference is they'd just serve the underpass instead of SW campus, however with it of course being one way it means it has to serve north campus instead. The X3 is only registered as a peak time duplicate and uses a school bus from the 940 and a minibus - both run dead from Campus to LBS/White Lund. PM arrangements are slightly different.
The argument for the short 3 is they are defiantly needed during term time and certainly needed at peak student movement times to serve SW campus, Ive had occasions where I've had a full standing load before even reaching the underpass on a short 3 - especially the legendary Wednesday afternoons. The X1 basically does what the X3 would do, serving Queens Square instead of Common Garden Street.
Also as it happens 14196 did the duplicate 2 instead of the X3... also unlikely to be out to play tomorrow as I took it back to Catterall outstation tonight!

Should get yourself into Keswick in the morning, may be an interesting allocation there for this time of year ;)

Pointless going in the Reays travel shop, nothing in there really. All of the timetables are available on the buses, and are on most major bus stops, as well as on the outside of the travel shop. It's more of a glorified drivers rest room more than anything.

I totally agree that that short 3's are needed and see your point about the differences between the 3 and the X3 :)

It certainly did. Not the best type of weather for an open top, but there you go!
Nice and unusual to get an open top allocated over the February half term, it is usually the start of Easter holidays when they go out.

Definitely not the best bus for an outing to Seatoller in this weather! But can't be helped if there's shortages of deckers.

Almost a full house on towns

I love the mini-darts on the short 300, never done it with a solo, but they should always try to use the darts! Haven't done it with 34079 either, but I'm not as intrigued

Rain and open tops don't mix, but I recommend you do try it! I done it on a Titan in 2009, was the only idiot sat on the upper deck, sat on the front seat (wouldn't make much difference on the Oly's, as the roof goes back to cover the staircase). When the bus is moving, you don't get wet at all for the first couple of seats in the open part. You usually end up with your feet in the puddles though, especially when the bus goes down a little hill
Lesson from that day was not to go to Keswick wearing shorts and t-shirt when it is warm and sunny in Workington

Iv'e done short 300 with 34079 before the bus that made me bang my head on the seat metal railings in front of the seat I was sitting in!

I feel left out! I might have to try it haha. I can imagine I little wave of water flowing from the back to the front! Not advisable to put you bag on the floor then!

Does the water not flow anywhere or does it just sit on the upper deck aha. May be a silly question but I never got onto a Titan or been on one of the converted Olys or Tridents! I'm assuming exit holes somewhere on the side or rear. Wet feet either way by the sounds of things haha!

There's 4 drainage points, but they often get blocked up with leaves, or the big puddles stick around in the corners, then when the bus goes up or down a hill, it goes that quickly over the drainage points that it just stays on the bus!

Today in Carlisle, a Stacey's coaches coach was sitting outside M&S on Market Square for some reason, (It might of been on show) but it didn't look familiar a big coach sitting in the middle of a Market!

Promoting their new 2011 Holiday Brochure. They do it every year, in the same place. They come to Workington as well usually, parked at Debenhams.

I picked one of them up today, awsome coach like, It Had SKY TV in SatNav for the driver and a toilet.

Talking about my ride on 53338 a buggy was in the wheelchair area of the coach and 2 of the seats of the coach went into the lockers It was stagecoach's baby chair so it had stagecoach corporate seating on it which amused whilst walking to my seat. :D
