How can anyone look at WM tonight and say thats any way to run a country? Even if we ignore the spinlessness of tje government, yet another string of resignations and the PM herself not even voting...the allegations of MPs Physically bullying other MPs to vote a certain way just make a mockery of the word democracy. The sad thing is nothing will be done about it and people will still cheer the tories on. If the allegations are true those MPs doing the pushing and shoving should be arrested for assault and banned from holding any elected office again.

The real reason Braverman resigned imo is that all the newspapers were briefed last week that the almost-ready-to-be-announced Trade Deal with India was scuppered by Suella's strongly expressed opinions that most 'overstaying' of visas in the U.K. was by their citizens -this was reported in all three newspapers I buy, the i. the Times and the Sunday Times.

Penny Morduant's 'no, she's not hiding under a desk' remarks about Truss were deliberately framed to shame her, according to the BBC's best (imo) political reporter Nick Watt, on PM radio show.

Exceedingly unlikely the Tories would win an election in the next few months, after all this. Are you seriously suggesting Truss could win?

Only chance of them being the largest party is a 2024 election with a very much more moderate and stable government. And even then, unlikely given all that's happened.

If the Tories win now, it would indicate the UK has become an extraordinarily right-wing nation.

Labour need around a 12% lead to get a majority. Most current polls see them in 30+% territory, which even taking into account the swing towards the middle that all elections see - often around 10%, would still see them with a clear majority.

Anyone who thinks, without a complete change in direction (and competence), that the Tories have a chance of winning the next election is just deluding themselves.

Frankly, based on tonight, they're closer to splitting into two separate groups than they are presenting a unified front and winning any time soon. Cameron's bet on the Brexit referendum to unify the party doesn't seem to have gone so well now. But at least we didn't get that coalition of chaos...

Would have been interesting how that would have panned out. Dare I say UKIP would have swelled in size and become even more vocal than ever. Cameron would have probably resigned and been replaced with someone very Eurosceptic.

I suppose in 1997 the nation had tired of the Tories, especially with the dour and power hungry John Major in place. The economy was fairly stable (even after the ERM fiasco) and people in general felt that they had a future. However Blairs 'New Labour' just nailed it.

Cameron's 'win' was a little more surprising although it was clear the public didn't take to Gordon Brown. I also think...labour were starting to be seen as authoritarian and out of touch with the working class.

A physical assault on a man, apparently organised by Chinese consulate officials on British soil and causing that man to require hospital treatment. Mass abuse of women in Iran, while that country also breaks sanctions to sell drones to Russia that are being used to kill civilians. All things that require absolute urgent responses by the British Government, but instead we have a Government apparently so paralysed by its own attempts to stay in office that it no longer seems able to focus on anything else.
