Have drivers been told to increase the manual announcements they are giving? Over the past week, pretty much every driver on services I’ve been on (both Western and Central sections) have announced the train destination and stopping points. This, alongside the automated announcements (and manual station announcements), is far too much and just becomes white noise in my opinion

Sort of, yes. They've asked us to remind passengers that Bond Street is closed and then to leave the train at Paddington.
I personally don't announce all the stopping points, but they are very keen on manual announcements.
As mentioned above, there is also the issue of some trains announcing their destination is changing mid journey meaning the driver has to mute the system and do manual announcements.
The PIS has gotten down the drain recently. Recently travelled from Paddington to Canary Wharf and it announced "Exit for trains to Heathrow Airport" at every stop.
Also on a journey from Paddington to Heathrow last week, the PIS changed destination 4 times during the journey, finally ending with the choice of Paddington.

A similar thing happened to me. Going to t5, but the pis changed to Paddington. It was then turned off and changed back to t5.

One thing which should be clearer (for visitors and occasional users) is where the train actually stops on the platform, as the platforms are longer than the trains.
I worked this out, as the platform door display screens are only active if a train is actually stopping there, but it would be nice is some sort of notice was added to the doors which won't be opening, a simple red cross would suffice.

There’s certainly more at Tottenham Court Road & approaching Paddington. There have been unintentional overcarries into the sidings which, although trains are checked, have increased recently. Thus it’s a helping hand from drivers.

It does appear to have its moments. One thing is the announcement of Heathrow services approaching Paddington…on a train that started at Heathrow.

The CIS wasn't much use yesterday either. Arrived on Farringdon w/bound platform just after 1500 1st train is 5mins, then drops to 4 then 3 sits on 3 then jumps back up to 5 and does the same cycle. TfL rep on platform makes announcement that there is train fault at Whitechapel and will let us know when he's given more information. 5mins on no sign of train other than anyone new onto the platform is being lulled into a false sense of security with 1st time reducing so you think its coming same is happening with train 2, 3 & 4. So ask rep on platform what is happening should we get Circle Line upto you sir. Well some info would be helpful for passengers to make a choice can you ask station control. No i have to wait for them to give me info. So after 15mins returned to the 150 year old railway above. Then on interrogating of OTT Elizabeth line map i can see that there is a train in the platform at every station from Whitechapel back to Custom House.
So we have a 20B railway whose CIS isn't an accurate reflection of train movements, station platform doors smothered with CIS screens that could be used to convey extra information about what is happening but don't and platform staff rep whose not kept informed. This ought to be better than that.
So saw today that the Liverpool Street westbound platform mid way down has been tagged on the cement wall. Some effort has been made to scrub it off but it's still very visible and I don't see how they'll be able to get it off without either painting over it or changing the wall panel.
Frankly it's quite depressing to have visible graffiti on the platforms of a core station and I do wonder how much a problem this will be going forward. The decision to go with plain cement panels where unlike tiles it's nigh on impossible to remove graffiti is sadly going to be a very tempting target for some.

Really depressing. I'm sure I read the panels had antigraffiti coating on? Not sure how effective it is though.
This is the 'tag'. Happy to be corrected but I don't get the impression there's any coating on the panels, you can usually spot it as you get a sheen where it has been applied but the panels appear matt. Certainly would be something worth considering for the panels at eye level so they can at least be cleaned off.
Surely they can't be just leaving it like this? Even a big sticker saying anything to cover it would be preferable to having this mess on the wall.

Maybe the wall panels up to head height should have been enamelled for easy cleaning like the tiles\panelling elsewhere on the underground. There are a few things on the EL where architectural form seem to of overcome sensible function.

To me that bare surface just looks unfinished, rather than cool and minimalist...
They're just not very well designed, even if it wasn't for the risk of the above you can see at the bottom of them where people have put their feet up against them they're getting all dirty.

Deary me what a mess. I bet all the stations get done very soon now they can see they can't remove it. Seems like an enormous oversight - especially given how clean the tiles at all the other stations look despite decades of grime and dust!

Yesterday for the first time I used the 345s on the western section, Twyford to Maidenhead, then Maidenhead to Paddington. A surprisingly pleasant journey, helped by getting the transverse seats, not a major step down from the GWR 387s, and a step up from the 165s.

You wouldn't be saying that if you needed the loo and your phone was on 4%!
But otherwise, I've got mixed thoughts personally. Didn't think an awful lot of the 345s before the Core opened. Once it did, my opinion of them much improved. The best compromise for the routes they'll be doing I think.
With regards to 165s, yes, absolutely!
Retrofitting USB sockets would be a start. But they're still an upgrade from the 378s where the aircon really struggles in the summer but the 345s worked well in comparison.
I assume you mean 387s? Rather than comparing the 345s to the Class 378 London Overground trains?
No I mean the 378s which I use to get to Whitechapel to use the Lizzie.

I find the 710s far nicer than the 378s, surprisingly so. Yes it's a newer generation of train, but the 710 feels purpose built as a high density TfL train, whereas the 378 feels a bit compromised. Similarly, the 345s are decent too, especially in the tunnels.
The lack of adverts on a train would be seen as a bonus for many. Who, (apart from the advertising agency) wants them?
I think the lack of an unwanted facility in a recently deployed class of train is a good thing, and it's lack of 'modernity' (read 'following latest fad') is to be welcomed. The class 700s running on equally high volume passenger services manage quite well without it but have a very good PIS system which is important. In fact, on a through gangwayed train, it is important that passengers all get the same important information as standees can often see several displays through the other cars.
