That's because your Brighton train started at Southampton. 313's do not travel to Southampton.

Even if it is a Portsmouth to Brighton train it may not be a 313 on a Saturday.

Definitely not today, all 377. You can tell from the timetable which services will be 1st class (or not).
Quite weird today with only 8 units out of 19 in service

I am returning home from Hampden Park. Unfortunately I had just missed a London train from the Southbound platform, and there is nothing from the northbound platform to Lewes in the coming half an hour so I went to Eastbourne (on a 377 to Hastings) for a double back I saw a Brighton service passed through me non-stop to Eastbourne and it also wouldn't stop when coming out. The next service from Eastbourne to Lewes is a London train so I took it to Lewes and waited for another Brighton train. Unfortunately it's again another 377.
I saw a 313 in the opposite direction to Seaford while waiting at Lewes.
The final chance for me today will be the westbound train from Brighton. Although 313s don't go to Southampton I'll take the first available train in the correct direction and change when necessary, so it's still possible to take a 313 if I end up on a Hove or Bognor Regis train from Brighton.

I've arrived Brighton. Unfortunately the next train westwards is a Portsmouth train - another 377 as well. This is the 7th 377 I've taken today along the Coastway - 7 trains and no one of them is a 313.

You can also use Southern’s departure board on their website to view whether the train has three or four coaches. As 377/3s rarely stray off of the Metro and East Grinsteads, it makes it a likely bet that 3 carriages on the Coastway is 313.

313s out (singly) today on the Seafords, despite the sun being out and Brighton & Hove Albion playing at home, a little later.
Surely there must be some 377s in cheeky hideaways somewhere, on a Sunday, to add a bit more capacity and comfort?

No because 313s require Guards and no Guards sign from Bedhampton to Southampton any more so it is no longer possible for 313s to go there. They are unable to go to Eastbourne or Ore or Hastings either as no Guards sign the Lewes to Hampden Park section any more. The only routes they can go on are Brighton to Seaford and Brighton to Portsmouth and the Bognor Regis and Littlehampton branches.

I tried Chrome and Brave both the same so I rang Southern who said their website is crashing and they've got a server problem

I have noticed a few 313's have had their front ends cleaned up. Is this in preparation for handing back to the leasing company - i.e. in good condition?

They're staying until at least December, so they're just being cleaned up as the would regardless of any potential withdrawal.

That's good as they were getting decidedly scruffy with almost black front ends on some units from the dirt

TOCs do have to hand them back in reasonable condition, most noticeable recently with GAs 379s that went from having grey/brown and yellow front ends to gleaming white before they went off-lease.
However, that rarely happens if they're straight off for scrap, maybe Network Rail want a couple for rail adhesion trains for the Southern Region.

Don’t they generally use MPVs for RHTT in the 3 “southern” areas anyway? A solution without a problem…

Yes they do
Some of the stored class 455s were spray painted. It was stated on one of the Southern Electric Facebook groups that the graffiti would be washed off before they went for scrap. If true, that is a complete waste of water, time and resources. Back in the day, the EPBs were towed away with doors, windows, seats and goodness knows what else missing.

Has something happened to 313217? I heard about a hay stack the other day was involved. Now 377/3 seems to be a regular on the seafords.
Really? How does a 377/3 cycle to the South Coast when the rest of its work is still in the metro area and the Tonbridge line?

Women's football at the amex saw 7 car units on the Seaford branch (4 plus 3 car 377), now the 377/3s appear to be staying at least for now , for the future football matches.
