It's an interesting question, isn't it? Given Boris's total lack of respect for his own rules, if it happened again just how busy would be the police be handing out fines? I think it would lead to some civil unrest.

They were built to bolster the ITU capacity. But, in a staggering show of shortsightedness, due to the ITU wards being mothballed for months before, there weren't enough qualified staff to operate them.

We're led by idiots, but we know that anyway. Left and right are both bad.

I can quite believe that was the purpose of them but did it not that they ended up taking some normal appointments or something like that instead before they disappeared?

I’ll agree on being led by idiots regardless of political spectrum but then again the media too have to share the blame too (let’s not let them getaway with any of this either!)

Yet on the other how accurate does she know that the BA5 is resistant to vaccines? On the flipside it looks like more doom than when the first vaccines came about either these people want vaccines or not? Can’t keep having it as a two way street!

I thought initially that the Nightingale (Louisa Jordan in Scotland) hospitals were built for exactly that but it seemed to be it was your normal run of the mill hospital dealing with it! So what was the real purpose of those hospitals? Was it just built for the cameras and tv crews to then be forgotten about?

I can only speak about the one that was built here. ITU has been partially mothballed as the hospital is being downsized and losing it's acute status with much of the land and old buildings being sold off.

So a nightingale was erected at breakneck speed in the car park. Needless to say, the former ITU staff were needed in another hospital and no qualified staff could be found so the Nightingale treated a grand total of ZERO patients!

The media. Well there's good and bad. Some driven by government spin, and some driven by wealthy owners with agendas, but there some good ones out there.

By the way, some of the media have now worked out that "40 new hospitals" will probably mean less actual hospitals than what there were before, so that's something.

Suzanna Reid on Good Morning Britain just now mentioning "Covid cases on the rise" and "Talk of new restrictions". Don't try and push it Suzanna! Who in government has mentioned there could be new restrictions??!! No one as far as I'm aware! The public won't tolerate it if restrictions came back, let alone a lockdown(which definitely WON'T happen!).

By the end of the month Covid cases should be dropping again. And the press and media can then stop going on about the all too tiresome "Covid cases on the rise", "Covid on the rise again", "As cases continue to rise", etc!!!!

Where was her source for this (new restrictions?), seems to me as if the likes of ITV/BBC are now gettting away with… misinformation (oh look they got rid of a channel for this very thing!), double standards are definitely at play here and it seems the new standard is media is dictating, there has to be a stop to this.

Where, or perhaps more importantly who, is this "..talk of new restrictions..." coming from?

Answer : It is NOT the current (UK) government, and especially with all the political turmoil at the moment, the last thing the new Health Secretary is going to do is risk unpopularity by introducing new restrictions. If Boris Johnson even thinks of any new COVID measures, it will be the last straw for many backbench Conservative MPs.

No, the "...talk of new restrictions..." is coming from all the same locktivist and maskivist bores who infested our airwaves up until 19th July last year, and are desperate to see restrictions come in soon before the current wave of cases declines naturally, which will probably happen by the end of this month.

It must be a sign that there is a decline in readership/viewers/listeners somewhere for things like this to be said but then again I’m someone who doesn’t watch breakfast tv or stay glued to 24 hour news channels.

Whilst that is true but it doesn’t stop the media getting a say on a different matter, I’m confused who is running the country? Is it media or governments? Looks more daily as if it’s the media more than governments themselves (since when did that happen?)

The media will always keep saying we need more restrictions and the situation is getting worse, otherwise they'd be out of a job

Oh of course but the media seem to run the script than the actual governments themselves, I be surprised if this backfires on them in some way (it’s like the media are poking the bear).

As you point out it’s the media that want the restrictions but they’ll not obey the rules of course … it’s the one rule all over again…. As I said before we have heard so much Partygate by media but come on who else in media circles have broke rules? 2 so far but I bet there is more, as I say the media poking Boris at the moment will quite possibly bring an end to him but it could well end badly on the media themselves (clearly they can’t see their own downfall)

We seem to have a government that is far more influenced than it should be by media headlines... Leadership means sometimes taking hard, unpopular decisions

Until sometime in September, of course, which (given these waves seem to be happening every three months) is when the next variant will be on the rise. Media will be screaming "Return to school causes alarming rise in deadly BA6", etc....

This of course means the one after that will coincide with Christmas. Hopefully though the weak position of 'Boris' will mean he won't try on Christmas restrictions again.

To me is why are we even needing to think this at all? I’m not trying to sound negative but it just seems media is creating more drama out of thin air just so they can get what they want or as I say depends on the media itself ie TV - ratings/viewers Radio - listeners etc and again as I said before it’s like some sort of reality show but it’s the medias very own big brother apart from we are in this together. It should always be governments decide what’s best for the public not the media.

It seems very clear that the media are having too much of a say in our lives isn’t it time we turned the tables? If the media can screw Boris then surely the public can do the same to the media? (just a thought but it seems the media are hellbent on chaos and would rather create this atmosphere and walk away).

It was last August, just barely a few weeks when the main COVID restrictions, it was Suzanna Reid of GMB for days banging on about rising Covid cases and there could be an October lockdown! When no one in government has even indicated such as event could happen! Another case of her trying to influence the government to bringing in yet another pointless reckless damaging lockdown! Thankfully it didn't work.

The media, particularly the TV media tend to gain from people being forced or encouraged to stay at home as they would end up watching more TV. This is perhaps why the likes of ITV, Sky and BBC are so keen on restrictions.

As soon as restrictions were lifted on July 19th last year, all the locktivist papers were rabbiting on about a "...lockdown in August...".

When that didn't happen, they started to hint, as you say, that there could be an October lockdown.

That didn't happen either.

One advantage of the current political situation is that Boris Johnson, or indeed his successor, wouldn't dare introduce any new restrictions. because the country wouldn't stand for it, and the economy and people's mental health just can't take any more.

The media have potentially a lot to gain from predicting the future. Say for example in this case they predicted an August lockdown and it happened, they can then say to their readers / watchers "we got it right, keep watching us for more predictions". Imagine if there was a channel that got the weather spot on right every single day, they would dominate forecasts in the future. Sadly in the desire to shift copies / gain audiences / click baiting, the same is now true of the news, and its not just covid. Just about every major topic seems to come with their predictions, using "expert" after "expert" to try and demonstrate how they are right.

Much of the news these days is less about presenting facts but instead offering opinions.

Didn't stop good old Nicola from letting everyone know who was in control with her totally over the top winter restrictions mind. Thankfully my girlfriend (who is from Skye) was down with me over the winter so was able to enjoy the festivities and play her part in keeping the economy going.

It was also and as mentioned the likes of Peston (ITV) and Kraussenberg of the BBC wanting harsher restrictions, I am still baffled as to why are people not calling these people out too, they wanted the restrictions but still broke the rules! (not them in particular) but the point stands, I am all for people calling out politicians but lets not get the media off the hook, they need taken down a peg or two too!

You also forgot to say if its not an expert its a source, rather than hide the experts or sources maybe the media too need to be transparent to who they talk with than hide behind an expert or source? Again call politicans out, call the media out.

Yet surprisingly enough the media were all over her daily briefings like a hawk, no wonder I read on things like twitter back then it became the Daily Nicola Show - or it was known to us under BBC Scotland the Coronavirus Update with a brief intro of what was going to be said (made me wonder too why they had some info before she even came out to do the briefings), then the usual rinse/repeat of what was said then back to schedule.

As I say does nobody not see the hypocrisy thats been played out? Us the public followed the rules meanwhile politicans and media partied whilst telling the public to grass on your friends or call people names if you didn't want vaccinated or the lockdowns etc.

The media are happy to cause division with us but walk away from it once its started.

I wish our beloved NHS leaders would concentrate on their non covid procedure.
It is convenient for the NHS for covid to be at the forefront of the headlines as it masks their shortcomings in other areas.

Reid has form regarding wanting restrictions and lockdowns and needs no encouragement from anyone at GMB to air her views.

One of the papers, the Daily Express I think, has been predicting an arctic blast every winter for as long as I can remember. We're still waiting. It's a long standing joke with one of my mates. Ironically I don't think they predicted the snow in March 2018.

Not just the annual artic blast, but also scorching hot summers that will threaten to turn the UK into Death Valley. And to be fair, they will eventually be right, in about two billion years when the sun finally goes supernova... :D

Most of those "with Covid" are probably perfectly healthy as well, and many won't even have any symptoms.

Media look for the negative, I quite agree had it been said along the lines of 29 out of 30 but it doesn’t suit the agenda

Wait the same Dr Hilary who performed CPR on a dummy with a towel? (seen the clip on YouTube still shocked to the day they allowed that and not be pulled up), and also the one who said masks don’t work then flipped but is still scaring the crap out of people?

Like I say where is the media regulator in all this? Seems ok to allow it but anyone else a slapped wrist or pulled off air.

Glad to see someone calling out the Express, it's the champion of click bait with it's hysterical weather headlines. And it's fanatical Brexit stance.

The other year it claimed (on the front page) that "Boris gets GREAT Brexit victory" after a meeting in the Hague. The meeting didn't actually happen.....

The very worst when it comes to outright baloney.

Restrictionivists/maskivists are very keen for the mandatory wearing of flimsy loose fitting masks and other nonsense "measures" as soon as possible because they know that cases aren't far off peaking and they want masks to be given the credit for this.

On previous occasions in England, the introduction of masks has been followed by steep rises in infections, while the lifting of mask mandates has been followed by declining infection rates and a similar patterns have been observed in many countries.

The hard left know that this is a good opportunity for them to claim that masks are the catalyst for a decrease in cases, and are getting very frustrated that the opportunity will soon be lost.

I expect them to give up soon, once cases start reducing, but they will no doubt renew their efforts in the winter!

It really is appalling how the hard left are able to influence so many NHS trusts though; I am ruling myself out of ever working for the NHS again as I now see it as a very badly run organisation which has far too many militant virtue signallers in a position of influence for my liking.
