It certainly wasn't. That was a blunder either concocted by Rail Advent or a miscommunication by Margate. Neither Angel Trains had sold it (and to this day remains unsold) and LSL certainly hadn't bought it.

What isn't helping it is Angel Trains desire to sell it as a complete rake. So, good news for Newport SIMS then...
What also doesn’t help is that the vehicles are utterly knackered. Any prospective purchaser is likely to be aware of the horrific condition of the vehicles that EMR took on: these are going to be at least as bad and very likely worse given a further two years sat in the open.

I really don’t understand why Angel are holding on to them.

Indeed. And I dread to think of what state the Power Cars are in now. Any prospective purchaser will certainly have to have deep pockets (or just replace the Power Cars).

I'm not sure why either. It's certainly costing them sales - few people have shown interest in certain vehicles from the rake, but the policy of all or nothing means that no-one is getting anywhere with it, and it's stay in storage carries on.

Were the carriages painted or vinyled in to the retro BR livery? If it's vinyl, I dread to think what state the bodywork is in underneath.

Very rapidly repainted by Wabtec at Doncaster. I think the set was repainted within a matter of days. The power cars were done separately by the former business Heritage Painting at Craigentinny.

The answer is above, in post #668.
So still stored at Ely awaiting its fate?

Unless anyone actually wants to take this set (and given how it's been stored since the end of 2019, it's probably not in the best of condition!), it'll probably end up being shredded at Newport, or scrapped somewhere else. Besides, if it was to go into preservation (and would need a lot of work doing to it, I presume), then unless it's purely for static use, then whoever took this set on would also need something to haul the coaches with.

It's just a tart-up job on some knackered old coaches, why would anyone want to preserve them?

And if they did want to, they’ve had two years to do so. I really don’t understand why/what Angel are holding out (for).

The same could be said for a fair bit of active heritage line stock I reckon! :D

But yes, seriously, it does seem odd that it hasn't met its fate yet. It can't have very long I wouldn't have thought.

A lot of cash and someone gullible enough to take the entire set on? I can see those power cars meeting their fate first to be honest - that Craigentinny Filler must be full of water by now, particularly if 277 was anything to go by!

There may be a dash to shift some of this stock now as the price of scrap metal is the highest it been for a long time.

Wednesday 13th April 2021. www.realtimetrains.co.uk 0517 Derby R.T.C. network rail to Long Marston light engine move.
Move Long Marston to Newport Docks Simms not yet in system.
Could it be the final two ex emr/emt ones in blue livery that have not had a owner. Yet. Also is there any more power cars still down there. Unless it's the mk3 hst coaches. I am lead to believe that these two power cars was due to be removed anytime soon.
Thank you you.

In regards to today’s move it’s timing load is 715 tonne, if we can get an indication from that. 37601 is performing the honours (5Q77).

Thank you for the continued updates. Which coaches were these - as I don't remember if any were at Long Marston? I thought most MK3s remaining were still at Ely?

Some of the First Rail Holdings owned vehicles were/are stored at Long Marston after the GWR fleet reduction. They’re the ones not chosen for the 2+4 sets.

These four were First Group owned.

Also belonging to them, and still at Long Marston as far as I know are:
40900, 40902, 40904 and 42176

They are indeed listed as being at Long Marston in a couple of posts further up.

For now at least.

With todays move being to Newport, that also indicates to me that First Group doesn’t need many if at all any more spares for it’s fleet.

Sad to see more Dynamic Lines stuff going for the chop, would've been nice to see at least one saved somewhere as an illustration of the last version of the Western MK3s.

Ah well :(

There are several in Lincolnshire! Whether they retain the livery is another matter, of course (three (?) at Scunthorpe Steelworks and one at the Lincolshire Wolds Railway)

Sadly I don’t think there’s much left of those either - the TGS since found it’s way into the ERS fleet (and was used in the Christmas film). I believe they were offered ideas on how to standardise them a little more but sadly not taken up.

I’m also a little sad that so far, virtually none of the Western buffets have found their way into preservation - only 3 of sorts have; the one in limbo at Pitlochry, 40713 in Lincolnshire and LSLs Staycation buffet which is still largely ex Service condition*.

*contrary to any extensively refurbished PR when all that has been changed is a cover over the GWR headrest.

Didn't they take five vehicles in total: two TGS (one gone to ERS as you say), two TS and a TRFB?

Apologies, they did indeed. Though I’m not sure where in the vast expanse of Scunthorpe Steel Works they are now located - nothing seems to be on Flickr or any of the more recent YouTube videos.

Isn't one of the two in the Blue Pullman set also relatively unchanged? Of course, it's highly debatable whether this or the LSL set counts as 'preserved' (my view would be not!).

Not really, and having had a similar debate over on Facebook this afternoon I do agree that the LSL stuff is not at all preserved.

Regarding the Pullman, one has been completely gutted and rebuilt, the other still remains a Buffet car with FGW shaped counter, but now covered in wood panelling and some (in my opinion at least!) gaudy blue e-leather panelling. Something it most certainly isn’t and looking rather odd for it.
