If I have kept up, this should leave 456 002, 004, 017 and 023 on SWR - is this right or have they already gone to Long Marston as well?

Posted elsewhere is a photo of 1 vehicle of 456001 arriving at the gates to Newport Docks this morning.

In terms of long term out of service units, the following have now been out of passenger use (from RTT) for over a month. This is in addition to those already mentioned.

458533 (28/01)
455719 (27/01)

Presumably gone to Newport?

All the others (I think including one by road?) have gone to Long Marston.

I think it's actually gone to Long Marston. As far as I'm aware no SWR units have been sent to Newport yet.
Humble pie time: @theblackwatch is right (as usual!). There’s a photo on another forum of a car from 456001 outside the gates at Sims, Newport. 456005 also reported as having gone the same way on Monday.

5859 and 5912 are going to Bournemouth for exam work on Wednesday, I would reckon they will be on the 5B39 path. I would then also bet on 5708 and 5734 having been completed and returning with the same driver on 5Y51.
Bournemouth cannot carry out all work arising as they don't have the competency* or materials for all jobs, so there might be a couple of bits to do but I would imaging 5708/34 to re-enter the fray in the not too distant future.
5734 confirmed as the rear unit of 5Y51 this afternoon, currently approaching Winchester.

As WarrenTManager predicted, 5Y51 is shown on RTT as 455708+455734. 5B39 did run but the units are not identified on RTT, but surely must be 455859+455912 as stated.

They don't hang around there as we know, so those'll be scrapped within days I assume.

A random selection of Class 450 units generally used on outer-suburban services also operate some Reading, Weybridge & Windsor services.
Those at Newport Docks shown as scrapped because it never takes long ;)

So 017 is the only one still on SWR turf?

5B39 was 5859/5912.

6017 now on trailers for Newport at Wimbledon Park.

8504 might be powered up this week, but still a few parts to come.

5719's wheelset has arrived. Just awaiting a slot for a lift.

5738 has been in traffic for the last four weeks

Presumably the 456s being fast tracked to Newport is on the basis that they're demic and would be unfit for a return to service even if required; do we know if the rest are still expected to spend a year or so in warm storage before they get the chop?

Humble pie time: @theblackwatch is right (as usual!). There’s a photo on another forum of a car from 456001 outside the gates at Sims, Newport. 456005 also reported as having gone the same way on Monday.
Thanks, although unfortunately I can't claim to be correct 100% of the time (but do my best!)

Have you got a link to the pictures please?

Sad to see it going in looking fully intact, I was under the impression that the ones going straight to the chophouse were demics? :(
I would certainly hope the Grammer seats get saved for further use. They're only a few years old.

6001 had a severe traction motor failure.
6005 had a severe traction motor failure and needed at least one wheelset.
6017 needed wheelsets.

I don’t think there’s much of a direct relationship between how they look and whether or not they work.

A fair point! :D But in all seriousness, you'd often expect some robbing of parts or whatever, particularly given how interchangeable a lot of the components must be with the 455s!

There's not much the same apart from GSM-R, Wi-Fi, some of the PIS and CCTV and the compressor and anti-roll bar link. The motors are DC, traction equipment different, MA looks like the 455/8 BX but is the 319 BV type. Light clusters are LED. Bogies are different being P7 and T3 not BT13/BX1/BP27. A lot of the relays changed on 455 during the 2000s refurb, 456s still retained a lot of the original Square D relays, interior lighting is LED on 456, brake control is different still having old Davies & Metcalfe gear, 455s now having Knorr-Bremse equipment like Juniper and Electrostar.

I was thinking more along the lines of the less fancy stuff; doors, windows, even the light clusters etc! Wimbledon must get through a fair few bodyside windows I'd have thought! I presume much of that lot is generic 'MK3 unit' fit?

Think this sums up just how different two very similar units in appearance are in reality.

Light clusters are completely different between the two classes.

The other thing to remember is that they are owned by Porterbrook. They are the ones who ultimately control where/what happens to the parts.
