Does anyone have any idea why Stagecoach ticket machines in Manchester take twice as long to scan ITSO cards as elsewhere in the country?
You put the card on, the machine lights up and beeps. In most other places you can take the card off at this point and walk to your seat, but in Manchester you have to wait for a second beep and the light to change colour, which takes about another couple of seconds.
If you take the card off after the first beep you get the message "CARD ERROR - SEE DRIVER" and then the driver has to do something which seems to entail repeatedly pressing a button until it resets.
Given people not used to this, including myself, are caught out by it fairly commonly, just changing the machine software to immediately accept a new card after a failed read would have an effect on dwell, albeit not a massive one.
