Can anyone say how many buses Lothian have in reserve - enough for the pre-Covid timetable, or enough for the previous (before 14 November) Covid timetable, or what?

Well 301-340 have been sold and 679 onwards are yet to enter service. Apart from that?

Assume this will be due to new B5TLs going into service? Also heard 421-425 to Marine also.
926-927 should be surplus on the return of 436-437, where they then go I do wonder? Then maybe 201-215 (to VOR), 420-424 (to Marine) go with 679-698 entering service at Central. One bus would still be left at Central (I’ll use 425 as an example), so that could stay for a bit longer. That or one of the enviros.

348-350 are on borrowed time either way - and you would think replaced by 420-422. 423-424 could allow other stuff to go to VOR, but I’m not sure what.

I think people are getting confused. 201-15 are the Alexander Enviro 400Hs bought new in 2011 that were converted to straight diesel a while back.

I think Enviro Classic (never heard this terminology but get the logic of it) is being used to refer to these as they are first generation Enviros, unlike the Enviro MMCs (B5TL diesel) and Enviro City (BYD Electric) that have joined the fleet in the last few months.

This may be just my experience, but I've heard it used in my old job and from friends at other companies that have both E400/E200 MMCs and 'classic' ones to distinguish between the types. I've not heard it used here though.

As ADL continued to sell the old shape E200 well after the introduction of the MMC maybe they were designated as such by ADL?

Yeah it makes complete sense I just meant it was another instance of "Gemini 1" - i.e. not a manufacturer term

Onwards to ECB.
Attached below is a photo of 594 in East Coast Buses livery.

Mod note - please remember to credit the photographer, or indicate if it's your own work. Thanks :)

I really think they need to go back to the old location of the fleet number (near side indicator). Having it beside the display on the newer ADL bodied Volvo’s is fine as the extra panel is there but on these Gemini2 bodies (especially those with gasket glazing) it just looks crammed and could even possibly be misread by a passenger for a route number (if the number was lower) - relatively unlikely but nevertheless still possible.

Besides that I really prefer this ECB image over the old. Just need all the ECB/LC buses to carry the same livery now. I don’t think Musselburgh depot under the new ownership has had one livery yet? There’s always been different variations and original LCB, LMC etc.

Looks great in the new livery, shame they're not coming back to Lothian Country but it will be nice to see them at East Coast Buses.

437 is also back out for those that haven’t noticed it. Can’t imagine it’ll be too long before 436 returns either.

What has Lothian Country been given to replace 171 - 175 and 591 -594?
Nothing, so far.

I think they were made surplus due to the service reductions in November this year. There is always a possibility of Lothian Country getting given cascades from Lothian Buses but it is likely they are just there for a repaint like @stevenedin suggested.

More 600s have arrived at Central, didn't get fleet numbers but looked to be around 5-8 of them.

Lothian Buses have indicated their expectation to withdraw some services in the near future due to staff shortage (announcement linked below:

The method of communicating withdrawn journeys/services isn't made clear in their statement. Perhaps nobody would notice cancellations on some of the more frequent routes, but maybe not so good if you're deliberately waiting for an express bus and don't know it isn't running.

Maybe they'll publish an emergency timetable across the network, similar to last year.

Can’t imagine an emergency timetable being published. It takes far too long to organise and get duties through unions etc. for it to be worth doing that.

You’d hope that the target services to have journeys removed/missing will be those high frequency end-to-end routes rather than 3’s, 26’s, 31’s with split ends (especially as those are every 12 mins now already). In reality though it’ll just depend on whatever is part of the duties they cannot cover on any given day.

Certainly those that had already been reduced I can’t see being further.

I think there are some services, notably the 19 that should be able to cope with a reduction to every 20 mins fairly easily.

Thankfully in this case the base timetables are already there and Lothian know what does and doesn’t work better than they did a year ago. It won’t be perfect, but it’s better than having random gaps.

Hate to say it but the express network could be the first thing to go.

The night buses due to run in the early hours of Ne'erday will now not operate following the cancellation of Edinburgh's Hogmanay celebrations by the Scottish Government.

Thought they might have taken the opportunity to trim back some of the daytime services while they were making this Hogmanay change but doesn't seem anything obvious.
