I suppose you could argue that it's both a "special working", as in not bog standard, and also a normal franchise timetabled service.

67014 worked 1H06, 05:46 Birmingham Moor Street to Marylebone with 82303 on the rear of a standard WSMR set. I'm not sure whether the first class coach was declassified (Chiltern is a one class railway), but apparently the buffet was in operation.

67018 worked 1H08, 06:53 Banbury to Marylebone with 6 x Mk.3 TSOs, four in blue/grey livery and two in ex-Virgin livery, with Chiltern DVT 82302 on the rear southbound. This train was finally made up at Aylesbury depot yesterday, 12th December, with the help of shunter 01509 "Lesley", and then stabled overnight in the south sidings at Aylesbury. It then ran as ECS, 05:15 from Aylesbury via reversal at Princes Risborough to Banbury this morning. A few shots on my site from yesterday start at:

At this time of the year, these workings are of course mainly in the dark...

In the end it was 67012 with WSMR set 1 which provided the return working.

By the way, 67018 on the Banbury service is likely to be replaced by 67001 in the next few days, so catch the Red Devil whilst you can.

67001 has been stored for quite some time hasn't it.

It appears these trains are running on Dec 27th & 28th, which is interesting as I would have thought they were bank holidays given Christmas Day and Boxing Day are Weekend days...

I think the 06.10 from Kidderminster to Marylebone is loco hauled because the poster I described earlier that I saw at Moor Street - I am pretty sure it mentioned the 06.54 departure to London.

But Warwick Parkway to Leamington Spa, 3 stops in the space of 10minutes musn't be a great performance by a skip?

With the timings aswell, surely a 168 would easily manage the pax levels at this time? Surely the more spacious and larger luggage capacity of the Hauled set would be better utilised on a later departure for both the London leg of these two hauled sets.

Definitely perform better than the 168s, which like all Turbostars are fairly underpowered for 100mph units. Leaving Bicester North on the up road, a 67 reaches 100mph somewhere between Blackthorn bridge and Piddington. A 168 will not hit 100 until it gets to the downhill gradient beyond Brill Tunnel!

No dwell times have been changed on the 0546, they all have to be 1 minute at those stations anyway. 0546 is actually sat in a 165 path ! 0653 from Banbury has higher dwells.

Latest word is that 67029 will replace 67018, 67001 not being ready.

Have heard that 67029 is in the frame for WSMR for a while as 67013 is due an exam. 67018 is also due an exam and I understand that 67014 has replaced it on the Chiltern LHCS for next week, starting tomorrow.

Rumour with the staff at WSMR is that 67010's return is imminent and should hopefully get a full standard fleet from now on but until 010 is back from the works then 029 should be heading our way whilst 013 is running silly shifts up the WCML's mail runs!
