Just to re-cap, I thought in my confused state of mind that a preamble said that we would be taking an indirect route to Scarborough.

I confused this referred-to preamble with the other new quiz (Liverpool Lime Street to Scarborough) and had visions from York of making Selby the next station, then all stations to Hull then the coast line to Scarborough. Still, never mind.

Preamble? Sorry if I missed something.
My confusion entirely is to blame...the preamble that I referred to was that of the other quiz, which also had Scarborough as its terminal point. No preamble at all on this quiz. I may well consider returning to the 17-month sabbatical I took from this quiz, as such confusion that I have so displayed could spoil the quiz for other contributors.

Mea culpa, me culpa, mea maxima culpa.

The quiz that @Xenophon PCDGS was referring to is my new baby, the Station Facts Journey Game. (If you ever fancy joining us, please do!)

On that game we're doing a journey from Liverpool to Scarborough.

It was rotten luck that we ended up going over the Calderdale route to Scarborough on this game...the perfect circumstances to manufacture a muddle with the other, all things considered. But I wouldn't worry at all - you haven't spoiled the game for anyone! None of us have even been inconvenienced. I wouldn't give it a moment's thought. My fault for leading this leg to Scarborough.
