Strange Desination Board on an Class 323?

Today i was heading to Redditch for the first time, as i was heading down there, the TRain stopped an Selly Oak or Bournville, one of the two stations, An London Midland Class 323 came straight through and didn't stopped at the station but i noticed the destination board saying HAZEL GROVE!

Any idea what that was all about or was London Midland messing around with the destination boards like they did in Bedford one time! when they put an Shirley Football Special service on from Bedford to Bletchley! which was run by an Class 150 DMU

I saw an EMT 158 on a Liverpool service going to a 'GARDEN FESTIVAL'

It could be in preparation for the 323s coming north although highly unlikely; it must just have been a wrong code entered on the panel.

I remember once seeing a Plymouth Stopper train at Penzance advertised for Blackpool Pleasure Beach on the CIS!

Stock, generally, in the North tends to have random locations printed on them, most do not show the actual destinations, you'll get Buxton or Chester or Knutsford (even though no trains terminate there!) on the Northern 156s, and equally random locations my local the Blackpool South-Colne line's 142s.

I am surprised for this to happen to LM, but it does beg the question how many people actually take any notice of them, especially on lines with hourly or clockface services, where people automatically know that it must be the services to wherever regardless!

When i was driving in Scotland i used to put March on all the 158's that i went on when putting them to bed(cleaning),so in the mornings there would be quite a few trains in the platforms 'GOING' to March from Perth!

When i was at Bedford, i noticed an Class 150 heading to Shirley Football Special but FFC were also playing around with the destination boards there were Class 319's heading to Moorgate! Sutton! i should uploaded the photos of my day in Bedford

i also remember seeing the 1332 London Midland service to London Euston at Rugeley Trent Valley saying Football Special on the side destination board

And also at the SVR DMU Gala, i noticed they were also messing around with the headboard, the Class 108 was heading to Earing Boardway from machynlleth Via Kiddermister Town!

If the 323 went straight through then it'll have been an ECS working, and the train crew were probably just messing around with the digital display. There was a picture in one of the railway magazines a few years ago of one of the West Midland 323s showing a destination of "Ashby-de-la-Zouch": Wishful thinking if ever I saw it seeing as the line isn't electrified and has been freight only for years!

With digital displays you can put up whatever you like. Trying to remember the particularly bizarre one I saw on a Central Connect bus on a private charter in Brum a couple of months ago...

I remember getting a tour of Yoker Depot when I was about 11, the 320's quite new, and I had a chance to look through the codes and to punch in a station, just to be difficult i put Cumbernauld on it was the only station on the list that wasn't electrified. Funny the things that appeals to some people!! I think its something in the train enthusiast's psyche, that they want to see something different from what should be normal when it comes to meaningless things such as destination blinds and displays, notice boards etc.. I'm not taking the PIS honest!

A few years ago I noticed a pair of Virgin Voyagers coupled together. The rear destination board of the leading unit said "Stop Following Me" and the front board of the trailing unit said "I Love You", as if the rear unit was stalking the front one - Raised quite a few smiles.

Destination displays don't fuss me to be honest, but occasionally I'll see something that'll cause me to double take. Just remembered, my favourite one was on the rear destination screen of a Voyager leaving Durham under the Virgin regime, split into two entries:

"For those about to rock.....We salute you"

It makes the day more amusing. I saw a 158 on the fife circle with mystery tour on it recently.

There was a letter in the Metro a couple of months back asking if anyone else had noticed one of the Glasgow trains (a 158) had the destination as Mystery Excursion.

There's a photo somewhere of a Voyager with 'Off to bed now' IIRC, though I don't have a link to it anymore.

158s post-date them I'm pretty damn sure, but I beilve "Mystery Excursion" was once something run reasonably frequently by BR- essentially like a charter day-trip, but passengers boarding wouldn't know ehere they were going

The worst I've seen, on a Voyager just in from Muddy Waters, was "Come on Leicester **** the Rams". I presume a local football match was on the horizon!?!?

Some years ago, I saw a 323 at Crewe showing "Stansted Airport" as the destination. It was substituting for a 170 when there were through trains from Liverpool Lime St to Stansted (via Birmingham), and through passengers would have needed to change trains at New St.
