As far as I know the refurbs will be ex-virgin west coast mark 3s.

Im not sure that what the original vehicle change request stated. It did have the numbers of the coaches on it, I'll need to dig it out.

Yes. There will be one return service a day from December with the refurb sets entering service late next year. There will be 6 mark 3 sets.

I dont suppose you know what the timings are or what stops they will have.
For instance will they stop at solihul and high wycombe,if you have any info
that would be great.

Solihull probably, High Wycombe no. They'll be fast services. Id take a guess at Solihull, Warwick Parkway, Leamington, Banbury then right away Marylebone.

I take it they will be 67 hauled with dvt.It will be good once more to have a
diesel hauled service from birmingham to london, the last ones were in the 80s
with the new,st-padds which were 47 and 50 hauled,sometimes a network
southeast loco would find its way on to route.

Although 47s were hauling passenger services from Kensington Olympia (ok, officially "Not London") early this century.

In the 77th Supplementary agreement, for the Banbury to Marylebone LHCS service to allow for GSM(R) fitting to the DMU fleet, they refer to 67 + 6 coaches + DVT, as timing trials for that have been done before for WSMR.

I suppose that doesn't mean they will necessarily use 6...

How many Driving Trailers were built by IE? I wonder if Chiltern, if they have bought the IE vehicles, would be interested in these? There's enough Mk 3 sleeping and catering vehicles about to allow them to be air-conditioned, and I'm sure the cab interior could be upgraded to Class 67 standards. The benefit for Chiltern would be that it'd be an additional seating coach instead of a full DVT.

It would make more sense for NXEA to acquire them for the GEML where there are capacity problems

Unlikely now. They already have a plan involving disbanding one Mk3 set, and sharing its coaches out amongst the others.

321s and 360s are also involved on certain longer routes...

There are capacity problems on most franchises apart from Chiltern.

However, Chiltern are getting brand new 172s and all these Irish coaches too.

Not much help to those crammed into Pacers and Sprinters elsewhere in the UK, but I suppose that's not Chiltern's problem. Shame though

Any talk of Chiltern getting the Irish Mk3s is very premature. There's also the small matter that they won't be sold - only leased.

If Irish Rail are selling the coaches and Chiltern are leasing them...

Do you know who the ROSCO will be? I'd guess DB Rolling Stock (UK) Limited (or a similar name).

The trials never used 6, they used the EWS/DBS company train which is 4.

As a layman, I can only go by what Chiltern put in their application:

Timing exercises have proved to the satisfaction of Network Rail that formations comprising Class 67+6 Mark 3 coaches+DVT can attain the same or better sectional running times as Class 168 multiple units. The formations are therefore compatible with the timing loads of other trains running on the same route. Minor adjustments will be made to station dwell times of the two services concerned to accommodate the need to open and close slam doors (dwell times on the Chiltern route are usually based on sliding door trains)

They don't have to be, just one coach of every train has to be accesible

There has to be a minimum number of wheelchair spaces per x coach number as well dont there? Do the Irish Mk3 have them?

edit: 2 for 2-7 coachs, 3 for 8-11 and 4 for 12+

Thats a 1.2m by 0.7m space with handrails and emergency call button.
If more than 10% of seats have a table or folding table then the disabled space must have it too
