Hi, I completed the application and 3 online assessments yesterday. I haven't received any emails since to say 'thanks but no thanks' or that I'm progressing to the next stage. Is that normal? If I failed the VR test would I have been notified straight away?

Thanks in advance for any input.
Correct, if you don’t meet the standard the system is designed to auto reject

Thank you! I found the VR quite challenging so I wasn't convinced I'd have passed it.
I was worried about the VR test too but I’ve just got an email inviting me to do a a video interview so you should hear something soon.

Aww thats great! Well done! When did you apply? Just wondering how long it took for them to contact you regarding the interview?

It states that you should be able to provide proof of your A - C grades in maths and English. Do they actually ask for these? As it's 35 years since I did this, my certificates are long lost!

I can't remember where I got mine from, was a couple years ago but you can request proof of your academic grades if you've lost your certificates etc. But if they've mentioned they need proof then it's very likely you'll be asked to provide it.

I'm also worrying about this. According to the gov.uk website you can request a statement of results for around £45 but it may take up to 4 weeks after receiving your application.

I completed the assessments on Tuesday so they seems to be turning applications around pretty quickly.

I've just done it. It's the AQA website. Download the form, fill it in, email it back to them. 43 quid must be paid by bank transfer and proof of ID needed

Did you also email proof of ID, by uploading a photo of passport or something? Thanks

Morning. Did you hear anything immediately after completing assessments? I finished them last night and was expecting an email or something to say I'd hear in due course. I'm just worried the assessments haven't processed properly? Thanks

That sounds the same as mine, I completed 3 assessments, but haven't had an email since. It sounds to be the norm though. Fingers crossed we hear something positive soon.

Yeah hopefully. I'm new to this so not sure of the general procedure. As far as I can see they get a ridiculous amount of applicants though

It's been all over local media last week, when Virgin Trains did the same thing, they had in the region of 15000 applications.

I would say these initial tests will get rid of 90% of applications.

Does anyone know how many trainee drivers they are actually taking on or usually take on in one recruitment drive?

Hi, I've just contact one of my old school friends and apparently we sat English with AQA and Maths with Edexcel (not sure ifnit would be the same for you too)- so I'll need to pay each £43 for the statement/certificates.

What is the format please? Do you have time to prepare to answer the questions before it starts recording?

It is an online portal so; you read the questions, and then record your response.

I have submitted and presume it goes to be assessed by the team. If we go off the time they took to get back to me regarding my application I would presume it will be next week. However that does not take into account all of the other applications they have to go through from pre-interview.

No after the 3rd assessment I didn’t hear anything until I received the invite to record a video interview.

A fair whack of candidates then. Well I haven't had a rejection yet so fingers crossed it's onto the next stage.

The news articles about 15,000 applications is an old story from 2016. It was VTEC recruiting across the whole network from London to Scotland, which is why there was so many applications

Just got an email regarding the online interview.

Can anyone who has already completed the interview give any advice at all? I'm not asking for the questions, just some advice on what best to research? How long did the interview take you and did you feel it was rushed or you had plenty of time to say what you needed?

Any help would be massively appreciated and good luck to all who have made it to this stage.

I've just had my email for the online interview too, its definately not the style I'm used to, so also wondering how it works. I think because its the unknown it makes it a little more nerve-racking. Good luck to you

I've done my video interview so here's a summary:

You get a chance to test your microphone and camera and you can take as long as you like to make sure the quality is good.

You are then asked 6 questions and can give an answer of a max time of 3 minutes. You get 2 attempts to answer. Your second answer is automatically submitted.

If you've done your research you should not be surprised by any of the questions you're asked.

That's my basic overview, without giving the actual questions away.
