I don’t see why you couldn’t use a touch screen. I used a mouse and found it ok to navigate around. All it said in the email I received was to use a common operating system to ensure no problems running the test.

Hi guys, as I mentioned previously i was unsuccessful in my great northen application, but at the same time i applied to Thameslink and I haven't heard yet from that one. Do you think the rejection email covered both applications as they fall under the same company? I used the same account to submit the applications so i wondered if it covered both submissions. Or are the applications assessed separately for each job listing?

Just done mine today its not dots I had number and letters for example will ask you to cross of from Row 1 Columns 3,5,7,8, etc and then on the next one it will ask you cross off all the Capital A on the row then write the numbers on there.

3 sub tests:
1. Finding a constant single letter
2. Finding 2 given letters
3. Finding a constant single letter as well as the first letter of each row

Always good to be prepared, however having done the same mini scaat twice, I find it strange that some have been given a numerical scaat at this point. Maybe someone can shed some light?

Don't stress about it, every TOC will respond with yes or no, so you are still in the running for Thameslink

Yeah I have seen the video as well I guess that’s why I’m confused lol ..because I read somewhere on this forum to disregard everything else and mark the matching symbols.. guess Il have to wait and see lol

I used the OPC material to practice .. was definitely worth it in my opinion pretty much the same logic as the real test .

In the telephone directory search do you work from left to right like in the group bourdon or can you go down the columns? I find it quicker to go down each column but not sure how its marked, if you run out of time before you finish the page. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I really approve of this reply!! The idea of the tests is to assess your natural ability in concentration etc... It has been proven that attempting to practice/"learn" how the psychometric tests are done give you little to no advantage. I would recommend that you don't overthink the prep and just turn up, follow the **VERY CLEAR** instructions on the test. There truly is no point in trying to revise as you will only skew the results. If you do happen to fail then consider it perhaps an indication of unsuitability to the role, it's better to find that out early (exactly their aim) rather than when you are halfway through training and begin to struggle with the workload! Also do not take it as a negative about yourself, peoples brains work differently in certain areas so failing certainly is not a down mark on you! By all means do some basic research if it puts your mind at ease, but relax and remember the tests are there to work out if you are the right fit for the role!
Do not panic and good luck!

Good advice from twotwo there. Best I can offer is READ your practice literature, READ the instructions on your test papers, everything else is self explanatory. Don’t over think it as you are also being tested on how you read and interpret instructions. You will get a practice question to run through to see if you understand before the tests. The assessor/ invigilator is there to answer queries too. Remember that everyone has different methods in their approach to tests and exams and I think you might run the risk of being swamped with conflicting (although well meant) advice. Use the practice notes you have been given and practice with those, you don’t need anything additional to that. Good luck!

This was comforting to read - I have my assessment centre on Monday 15th and have been very nervous! Did you have to do the MMI on the day too? Or was it just the tests? Also (assuming you’re female like me) - what did you wear please? I don’t want to go too over (or under) dressed!

Hey! It was alright thanks - the assessor was great and really managed to help ease the nerves from the go! I found the paper tests all fine, the computer tests are definitely harder - now the painful 2 day wait to find out if pass or fail. No MMI as part of the assessments today as no time with 6 of us there all day. Next step will be MMI and interview with hiring manager if I’ve passed the assessments today! Fingers crossed!

Accuracy is more important than speed (although speed is taken into account). There’s no room for error when in charge of a vehicle that could be carrying upwards of 500 passengers.

Hi , I just wanted to let you know my thoughts on what you've said, as i did my mine a year ago but its still all relevant. Those that have described it as the letters are exactly right. 3 tests, looking for a different pattern each time. You're so focused that its difficult to judge how you've done, as the tests are over so quickly, each being between 2-3 minutes only. One word of advice is that even though the tests follow on after each other, you can take a few minutes break between each one to gather your thoughts, as you have to click to begin the next one when you're ready.
What i also did was to record my test as i was doing it. As I reviewed them afterwards, i noticed on the last test that I had missed 3 letters. I still passed it, as its not as much a test of speed , as it is accuracy. The tests have so many lines that they are designed so that you can't finish them all so don't try to, as in rushing to complete as many lines as you can, you will miss far more than you should. Remember, its not speed but accuracy that they're after.

Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure if anyone is in the same situation as me. I applied in December and have been going through the process with TL. I got to the stage of being invited to an assessment centre and I booked in for Thurs Feb 18th. About 2 weeks ago I had a phone call and email from recruitment telling me my assessment was cancelled and they would be in touch as soon as another date becomes available.

Today I've had an email reminder for my assessment on Thursday. I logged in to the GTR portal and it does still say I have an assessment on Thursday. I've replied to the person who sent me the original cancellation email, my leave from work for Thursday got cancelled when GTR recruitment cancelled my assessment and I haven't been preparing as I assumed it wasn't going to happen. Just feeling rather twitchy now as I don't want to feel rushed and I also won't be able to re-book my leave for Thursday at such short notice. Did anyone else book in to a centre and then have their appointment cancelled?

i might be wrong but i believe all tocs under GTR are enhanced. i have taken tests recently although this was just Thameslink.

DFFT is part of the assessments for GTR. Are the only TOC that I know of that doesn't use it. I only know about GTR and SE though so could be others.
So you could fail the DFFT twice but still be able to apply for SE for example. Know of one person thag has managed it this way. Hope this helps at all

Yes, DFFT is part of the assessment I sat yesterday for GTR (Southern) - I assume it would also be included for other TOC’s but can’t say for certain.
