Chancery Lane is nowhere near Chancery Lane, as the street entrance was moved when the station went from lifts to escalators. It now sits at the junction of High Holborn, Holborn and Gray’s Inn Road. So something like “Holborn Circus” or “Gray’s Inn” would be more relevant. Or, as a wild card, “Hatton Garden”, since a lot of people use the station for that.
Holborn is ridiculous from a logical point of view, as it sits on High Holborn, with Chancery Lane being on Holborn itself. “Kingsway” would be more relevant.
Tottenham Court Road is another farce, as three stations serve the street of the same name. “St Giles Circus” or even “Centre Point” would be more accurate.
I’d also be tempted to do something with Charing Cross, at the very least separating off the Bakerloo part and naming it Trafalgar Square, which I’ve always thought should have a station named after it.
Tottenham Court Road (TCR) station was there before Centre Point was even thought of. Warren Street is at the junction of that street and TCR - there is nothing wrong with the current name. Similarly Goodge Street station is at the junction of that street and TCR.
As you say the current entrance at Chancery Lane is a little away from that street. However changes in the entrance is not a great reason to rename stations. Hatton Garden would be wildly inappropriate - further than Chancery Lane and in actual fact Farringdon is closer to Hatton Garden.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with the name of Holborn.
Finally the Bakerloo at Charing Cross was originally called Trafalgar Square until Charing Cross was rebuilt for the Jubilee line in the 70s. There is absolutely zero reason to undo that.
As well as 'Frizzinghall', some of the trains also think that the r in Forster is silent.
And on the subject of the Aire Valley, Steeton & Silsden should really just be Steeton - because that's where it is, and Silsden is a mile or so away over the other side of a dual carriageway which is extremely nasty to try and cross on foot.
Did there used to be a station called Huby somewhere else? The naming really makes no sense at all otherwise!

Most Bradfordians I know barely pronounce the first "r" in Forster... the only way to tell the very subtle difference is to ask them the name of the Australian beer brand right after, then you can just about detect the slightly elongated first vowel sound in the station name. That's Yorkshire accents for you!
A few others:
Morley -> Morley Low (just to remind people they've a long climb ahead of them if they're off to Morley itself).
Darton -> Darton & Kexborough.
Pontefract Tanshelf -> Pontefract Town (all three Pontecarlo stations have silly names, this solves one of them and helps visitors unfamiliar with the town).
Hampton Court -> East Molesey (as that's where the station actually is, rather than being named after a building on the other side of the river and in a different (historical) county).
- Woolwich Arsenal doesn’t exist really anymore, so Woolwich or Woolwich (Main) [a la Farnborough] would do for me. Crossrail, insisting on their own station, should be Woolwich Riverside.
- Woolwich Dockyard. Well, there isn’t one of those. So Woolwich Reach seems fair.
- Charlton is probably alright.
- Westcombe Park ought to be Angerstein as thats also the main roundabout.
- Maze Hill should surely be Greenwich Park?
- Greenwich then becomes Greenwich High Road, and Cutty Sark becomes Greenwich Riverside.
- Deptford renamed Deptford Market to distinguish from Deptford Bridge.

Maybe Hillington West should be renamed to Penilee, or even better get rid of Hillington East and rename Hillington West to just Hillington.
Paisley St James should be renamed to Ferguslie as that is the general area it serves, with Paisley Gilmour Street being renamed to Paisley Central with Paisley Canal being renamed Paisley Saucelhill or Paisley South.
Manchester Piccadilly back to Manchester London Road, 'Piccadilly' is in London and London Road is geographically accurate with it being next to the station.
Bramley has been a traditional name and of course serves parts of Bramley.
Horsforth could be renamed Troy.
Headingley could be renamed but Kirkstall could lead to confusion as the Airedale Line runs through the site of the old station
New Pudsey got its name as it was a new station for the Pudsey area before Parkway became a naming convention. Stanningley was still open for a few days. Ideally the station should be moved a few metres towards Leeds near Asda and renamed Farsley.
Burley Park doesn't mean anything so agree Hyde Park.
Kirkstall Forge is being used as the name of the new development next to the station so would be better keeping.

Frizinghall. Park Grove is nearer but I was wondering if the Bolton Woods development was to go ahead it would be good to have its own station.
Don't think the central Bradford stations had a name originally, just named after the railway company. The later and present names don't mean anything.
BDQ could be Bradford Cheapside? Bradford Kirkgate??
BDI could be Bradford Bridge Street? Built on the site of the Bridge Street goods yard. Not really an Exchange these days.

Pontefract.
Tanshelf= near t’ town
Monkhill= near t' castle
Baghill = out o' t' way

Renaming Westcombe Park to Angerstein makes no sense because I’ve never heard anyone refer to that area as Angerstein, Royal Standard on the other hand is well known and been used by locals for years, so maybe drop the Blackheath part and call it Royal Standard (Blackheath)
Angerstein could however be a rebrand from Greenwich Peninsula as a whole
Maze Hill could be renamed to East Greenwich but either way I do agree with maybe using a (for Greenwich Park) at the end of the Station name
And before that 'Lever's Row' in Manchester (the roadway that leads from Market Street in the City Centre towards where the mainline station now is) was renamed 'Piccadilly' in c. 1812.
Piccadilly Gardens only came into being a century or so later when the local council decided to do something with the site following the demolition / relocation of Manchester Royal Infirmary which was previously located there.

Well, if nothing else I guess renaming Burley Park to Hyde Park besides being accurate would also give any tourists who were intending to visit Leeds Castle another distraction while they re-orient themselves...
I wouldn't say Pontefract Baghill is "out o' t' way" exactly... if it had a decent service, it'd rival Tanshelf for the title of the "Tahn" station. Slightly off-topic, but I'd support changing the spelling of Pontefract itself to "Pawnteefract" as like the fictional city of Pawnee, Indiana (from the series Parks & Recreation), it's dominated by a large candy factory!
The problem with that is that Frizinghall is in Frizinghall so would make no sense to rename. The 331’s only pronounce it wrong because it was recorded that way. It has been noted to the powers that be.
Bradford Interchange makes complete sense as it is the bus interchange.
East Didsbury (and the adjacent Metrolink station) to Parr's (or Parrs) Wood. It's not really in what most people would actually call Didsbury, it's further south than that and separated from it by a load of not very much, and the Tesco store nearby is known as "Parr's Wood Tesco" to pretty much anyone who would go there.
To be fair the OS map labels the area East Didsbury, but then it has long labelled Birch Fields/Victoria Park/bits of Longsight as Rusholme (which for a long time was misspelt as Rusholm) when anyone you ask where Rusholme is would describe the "Curry Mile" (more of a kebab mile now) on Wilmslow Road and the streets immediately adjacent to that - you wouldn't need to go very far the other way for it to be Moss Side.
(Shame Victoria Park and Moss Side don't have stations, as they'd fit the "stations that sound nice but aren't" thing if they did! )
In fairness, the existence of Burscough Bridge station rather requires this - unless you're proposing having stations named Burscough Bridge and Burscough not-Bridge.
or Bradford Forster Square to Bradford Grim Approach, which is the best description for the way into / out from that station, especially after dark. (Unless it has changed since I last went there; it was poorly lit, and with all sorts of places that dodgy characters might be able to lurk.)
