For interest my list which is derived mainly from here has:-
I make Northern having 370 units in use or in works plus the 5 x 769s undergoing test/training.
Of these 7 are left to refurbish of which 5 are in works leaving 158 791 and 861 still running in purple. 18 x153s remain until??.
In works for PRM and refurb I have former Scotrail 156491 ar Eastleigh since 18th Oct and 323 224 at Wolverton since 24th Aug.
In works for refurb I have at Crewe 150129 (5thDec), 150208 (12Dec) and 158855 (2Dec).
319372 is still running in Thamslink livery. What's it future hold I wonder.
Around 180 units await digital train mods.
May be of use. Corrections appreciated.

Presumably the Fainsa seats are what are on the new 195's and 331's. Sorry if this has already been covered but are these going to be retro-fitted to all the 156's and 158's eventually? Always hated those black plastic backed seats on the 150's which I presume are the Ashbournes?

The 158s are all getting them except for the eight 3-car ones which are keeping the original type. Most are already done.

Not sure exactly how many of the 156s, but a lower proportion.

Yes, the black seats on the 150s are Ashbourne.

Neither of the 3 car sets has digital mods, were you thinking of the 3 car 158's of which 758 is the first?

150140 now has the new moquette seat covers.

I've travelled on one of these on the Cumbrian Coast and can testify those seats/sets were knackered throughout so not surprised they are replacing them, shame the whole lot wasn't done as originally planned.

I assume mismatched toiletless 150209 will have one carriage fitted with a PRM toilet when it returns from Crewe.
I wonder if the carrage will be renumbered to the scrapped accident damaged one.

At a guess, it'll change from 57xxx to 52xxx to denote being a DMSL rather than DMS. Although reusing numbers of accident-damaged vehicles or locos is sometimes avoided, this isn't a hard and fast rule (except in Scotland apparently...). If I was a betting man I'd be expecting the car to become 52209 thus re-using the number of one of the scrapped cars for a few reasons: Firstly, giving it a new number (52286 for example) would mean it no longer matched the unit number. Secondly the toiletless pair has been numbered 209 rather than 212 whenever they've been paired together. Thirdly (and linked to the second point) the incident involving 212 led to the tragic death of a crew member, so using 209 will probably be favoured. EDIT: Turns out this is incorrect, or wikipedia is. Surprised that 209 is the current identity given that. I'm not superstitious but I know the railway can be at times (91132 and that 47 for example)

The original plan to create more 3-car units seems to be dead in the water, so those platform extensions on the Penistone line were a waste of time and money of course!

Just an opinion but I find the fitting of a toilet extremely unlikely. Very expensive for a unit that can easily continue to be used to make up a four car train.

That's how the "orphan" unit (209) was generally used when it first arrived at Northern, but the original rolling stock plan for Northern was to use the two prototype 3-car units, along with around 10 hybrid 3-car units (half a /2 inserted into a /1) on local services around West Yorkshire. Penistone; Knottingley and Leeds-Sheffield via Castleford were all initially scheduled to be served by 3-car 150s, with platform extensions at several locations specifically being designed for 60m formations. Any use of 153s wasn't a long-term plan, as those units were initially planned to go off-lease at the end of last year. They'd also be too long for those newly extended platforms when paired as 150+153.

The prototype units now seem to be being concentrated in Lancashire, as was the orphan unit until it was sent to Crewe.

As stated above the initial plan was to put each orphan car into a /1 to create two hybrid 3-car units- as those units would already have a toilet fitted in one of the cars there would be no need to add one. What the plan is now is anyone's guess, but I agree that fitting a new toilet to a vehicle that is 35 years old and never had one previously (so lacks the tanks and plumbing) is unlikely.

Presumably there's nothing preventing that, if Northern and the ROSCOs decide to do so. The obvious downside that springs to mind is that 2x 4-car units is more of a micro-fleet than 4x 3-car units.
