I think at that level these events with draw attention to themselves. 7 people in a front room will not.Greater Manchester Police have been tweeting again and state that fixed penalty notices have been issued at a wedding with 100 attendees and at a 60th party in Bolton.
Are you talking about the game or the pub afterwards?Just been watching rugby on tv, how on earth can this be stated to be safe no, distancing, no masks and large groups of blokes wriggling about in a heap on top of each other.
Sounds like it might have been the pub while the game was on the telly. In which case it's fine as long as the groups of large blokes are wriggling around in single-household groupsAre you talking about the game or the pub afterwards?

It would.not be but everything involving fun seams to be banned at the moment.I can't imagine socially distanced, mask wearing rugby would be much fun to watch....

Obviously not everything, although sport without spectators does feel somewhat hollow.
So non league is ok but premier league is not, this gets more stupid by the day.I wonder which non league team the virus supports until it can get in at Wembley again
The players and staff get regular tests to ensure that no one taking part in the event has the virus.Just been watching rugby on tv, how on earth can this be stated to be safe no, distancing, no masks and large groups of blokes wriggling about in a heap on top of each other.
A student in Nottingham has been fined £10k for holding a house party last night of around 50 people. Apparently police were met with hostility. But £10k to a student? How exactly do they think they're going to pay for that one then?
If he fails to pay or contests the fine he will appear before a court.
"This party was a clear example of a householder who deliberately flouted the rules without a care for anyone else and as a result we have used the full powers we have to deal with this.
"Under current rules we can issue fines to anyone hosting gatherings of more than 30 people which can result in fines of up to £10,000. And now we are on the eve of rules becoming even tighter so there can be gatherings of no more than six.
"I want to send out a clear message to anyone who is thinking of deliberately hosting parties tonight or tomorrow night ahead of the rules changing to please not do this. As we have demonstrated here we are not afraid to use the full powers we have and we will not tolerate those who are deliberately put other people’s lives in danger."
Who exactly wants to send a clear message? As the Nottingham Post article about it says:
Quite what the court will do about it, I don't know! The other interesting line in that story:
Seems to very much be a case of getting an example in before Freshers week(s)
Who exactly wants to send a clear message?
Police have issued a £10,000 fine to a teenager who organised a student house party in Lenton.
Officers said they are prepared to use the "full weight of the law" to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in Nottinghamshire.
The 19-year-old was issued with the £10,000 fine after police said he allowed more than 50 people to attend a house party at his home in Harlaxton Drive on Friday, September 11.
This comes just days before new rules come in force that mean only six people can meet at any one time.
Now officers are warning others thinking of hosting parties this weekend ahead of the changes to think again or face the consequences.
Assistant Chief Constable Steve Cooper from Nottinghamshire Police said: "We need to all remember we are very much still in the middle of a global pandemic and we all need to take responsibility for our actions.

Neighbours reported the house party to Nottinghamshire Police at around 10.20pm on Friday.
Community Protection Officers from Nottingham City Council initially attended but police said they were met with hostility from the organiser and so police were called to assist.
It's alleged officers found around 50 people in the address who were all ordered to leave.
The occupant was later issued with the fine.
If he fails to pay or contests the fine he will appear before a court.
Residents in the area said they understood the house party was held in a student property.
The law recently changed to allow forces to impose bigger fines in response to increased reports of unlawful gatherings and unlicensed music events which are putting people’s lives in danger due to the current pandemic.
Amy English, Neighbourhood Policing Inspector for City Central, added: "Residents have had fair warning that we won't tolerate people flouting the laws and regulations around the Coronavirus restrictions must be adhered to by everyone.
"In this case the resident also had the chance to shut the party down when they were first visited by our council colleagues.
"Despite blatantly breaching the regulations, there's no doubt in my mind that not everyone attending would have been social distancing which is irresponsible and puts everyone's health at risk.
"Throughout this pandemic the vast majority of local people have followed the advice and engaged really well with us. We have used enforcement only as a last resort and that will continue.
"We must take these incidents seriously, it puts everyone’s health at risk and we will be working closely with the council and any other relevant organisation to tackle any issues that may arise."
Councillor Rebecca Langton, Nottingham City Council Portfolio Holder for Communities, Highways and Strategic Transport added: "The police’s action last night sends a clear message that breaking the rules, especially in the context of a global pandemic, will not be tolerated and each organisation in partnership will take whatever steps we can to keep our communities safe."
O yes there was travelling 250 miles in lockdown, driving a vehicle on a public road with suspected poor eye site,Castle Bernard. There wasn't a law prohibiting what Cummings did, there was a law prohibiting what this student did. It is rather nonsensical though, I do agree
I think the bit that got him the fine was meeting the Community Officers with hostility meaning the police got called. Would probably have just got a telling off if he had accepted he was busted and turfed everyone out, despite having 50 people round being a clear breach of the “don’t believe a c**k” principle. So it’s ok to fine a student 10k whilst the likes of Dominic Cummings gets away with his misdoing during a proper lockdown. The cops weren’t interested in charging Cummings.
I'd be rather interested in knowing where the wedding was held. It seems unlikely that it was held at a private dwelling as there aren't many such places that could fit 100 people - even before social distancing became 'a thing'! I suppose it's just about possible it was in a park or similar public outdoor place...Greater Manchester Police have been tweeting again and state that fixed penalty notices have been issued at a wedding with 100 attendees and at a 60th party in Bolton.
The usual mixing up of FPNs and fines going on there... It is utterly pointless issuing a £10k FPN to a student. There is no way they can possibly pay it within the 21 days given (unless they get it crowdfunded extraordinarily quickly!). They will go to Court and, if found guilty, will be fined a rather more appropriate amount.Apologies, some selective quoting there. It's Assistant Chief Constable Steve Cooper from Nottinghamshire Police. Full story:
Maybe not loads but there are plenty of houses about that have gardens that could take 100 people, particularly for a buffet do rather than big formal sit down.I'd be rather interested in knowing where the wedding was held. It’s called deterrence, and the less chance of getting caught the bigger the fine needs to be.We don't penalise fraudsters, gangsters, or almost any other criminal this much. I'm sorry, it doesn't matter how many people catch Covid as a result of such an event, but a £10k FPN is completely and utterly out of all proportion. It's a great way for the Government to lose any remaining credibility it held with otherwise law-abiding people.
I know it’s absolutely ludicrous right! That’ll probably be the nail in the coffin for most uni societies too.![]()
How far apart would two groups of six need to be to be considered separate? Can you not go and sit in the park with 5 mates and, goodness me, there just across the grass are six of my other friends, if we talk a bit loud we can hear each other - but no intermingling! I can imagine just that in the park, or down on Tesco car park where the 'car crazies' meet up to chat. Three cars in adjacent spaces with two people in each, then a couple of spaces away another three cars.
I guess it's a lot about recent 'raves' and 'moonshine weddings' taking place because official weddings (of over 30) have been banned. For the uninitiated, moonshine weddings are like moonshine liqour in the prohibition era - banned in public so it happens behind closed doors.
I know of someone who held their work’s Christmas party yesterday in the event of it not being able to take place at the usual time! Even so, I am pretty optimistic that Boris will lift the rule of six just before Christmas in order to let families celebrate together, even if the restriction has to be reintroduced again in the new year. Also, unless this is lifted by December, means very few real Christmas parties will be officially allowed this year.
