No sign of the light loco en-route to Ilford for tomorrow morning’s scrap move. Hasn’t even left Leicester LIP yet.

going by their own power I believe not being pulled, I know the last 315 up at Wolverton did.

I’ll be surprised if they do make their last journey by their own power but surely they’ll be dragged into Newport Docks as the OHLE through Newport is yet to be energised.

Not to worry :) at least the first SR 314 that went for scrap made its last rail journey under its own power save for the final mile lol

First of all let me say that I know nothing about 315s or the areas they work, on the DC Rail facebook today is the comment that they commenced the TfL 315 warm storage project on behalf of Hanson & Hall, the project will see weekly running from Ilford to Northampton as well as weekly warm running, from that I assume that not all 315s will be going for scrap in the foreseeable future

Hansons are moving them for tfL London Overground and Arriva - due to the delayed 710 program. the units moved will re-enter traffic shortly when 858, 814 and the others run out of C4 miles. They are branded with Overground roundels.

Scrap move for 858 and 814 is planned and will move ahead of November 19th, so only a few more days in traffic. Beware!

And it would appear that tomorrow’s move is gonna be a no go again. Light engine from Leicester didn’t turn up at Ilford earlier on it would seem

Heard a very obscure rumour that 315's are being looked at to solve a short term capacity issue on the Cross City line with WMT as 730/1's are delayed.

Removal of one of the coaches to form 3 car sets...….

Don't you mean 730/0s? The /1s and /2s are both for LNwR.

Indeed, my bad......all the 730’s are delayed. No cab layout agreed yet.
Leave it much longer and WMT will fall behind another customer and have to wait even longer.....

Could the 323s not be subleased back? I gather they weren't expected to go to Northern until fairly recently, so presumably Northern could retain 319s longer? 315s would be an interesting idea, but most of the ones that are spare have gone for scrap, the rest will remain for a fair while longer...

I think the capacity issue is due to the relative lack of 323s on the Cross-City. There are nowhere near enough 6 cars in peak times and people are being left behind at stations.

However, with London Overground taking the lion's share of the 10 recently withdrawn TfL Rail 315s, I'm not sure where they could come from unless further 7 car 345s are planned. There are 22 Class 315s left with TfL Rail and the majority are reportedly staying for at least another year. A very interesting rumour nonetheless.

don't forget the Class 315's being withdrawn by LO require C4 exams so whatever happens - if they are shipped off - they will require heavy overhauls first and at 500k per unit - very unlikely i suspect!

Looks to be 3 warm runs tomorrow, running from Northampton to Bletchley and back.

Is there a ideal spot to take photos at Northampton?

Of the units where they are stabled? Not really! Best way to view them is from a passing train!
However, if they are all going out and about tomorrow.....then the station is as good a place as any....

It’s an unfamiliar area for me, I was hoping maybe there was some fields or something adjacent! I guess the station will do, however I’ll likely stick to Bletchley

There is a road off Spencer Bridge Road called Martins Yard, that meanders down past scrapyards and pallet storage places to end up alongside the Up Sidings. The problem is you'd only see half the units as they are parked on roads adjacent to each other. I could only see the front road from the train to Birmingham, you can only see the back road from Martins yard. Have a look on Google Earth, and see where the north end of the yard is, towards the lake. Thats where the units are.

Are you sure I spoke with colleagues at work and they're wondering if it was 317's but who knows.

the return of two units so soon is because 858 and 814 are going for scrap and are needed for LO services. the two are already LO branded in theory should be the ones

I can’t seem to pinpoint on the google satellite view where these specific sidings even are!
