Well it looks like the hourly Rugeley Trent Valley to Birmingham International via New Street terminates at Birmingham International xx55 and then forms the xx18 Birmingham Intl. to Liverpool. That's how it looks to me on real-time trains and from what I can gather from journey planners anyway.

And it's that complex interworking pattern that I believe will be the house of cards, not simple splits/joins. If you keep it self contained, then if it all goes to hell in a handcart you can cancel a couple of services and get everything back in the right place to restart on time.

Have to admit the Rugeley terminators from Euston that then go back 5 or 6 minutes later to International make me wince a bit. Luckily they are at the end of the xx.30, 33, 36, 39 flight at New St and have a chance of not causing too much carnage with the layover at International.

Though in the Birmingham International case, a very late southbound just gets turned at New Street to get back on time. Admittedly not great if you want Stechford or Lea Hall!

The new service is two trains an hour. The xx46 from Rugeley does indeed terminate at International to form a Liverpool (also two trains an hour) The xx19 from Rugeley goes all the way to Euston.

8-car Trent Valley workings with be much appreciated, on this route even off peak services can load quite well, in fact from observations at Nuneaton they load well all day pretty much. On Saturday's the current 9.36 from Nuneaton to Euston (ex Crewe) is almost always standing room only even before it arrives at Nuneaton so be much relief extra carriages.

I presumed the rugeley trent valley to brum international was the WMR electric service, where does the WMR service fit into all this?

The train from brum international to lime street, i presume that train originally started from euston??

Not really sure even what you're asking to be honest. There are PDF timetables and I suggest you look these up yourself and you can match up the inbound/outbound workings with the times given in the posts.

Rugeley-Birmingham intl will be (WMR)
Birmingham Intl-Liverpool will be (LNR) using the path of the existing shuttle between new st and airport.

The xx49 Euston-Liverpool via new st. Will start at Euston. (LNR) extension of the Birmingham terminator.

Agree that's exactly how it appears.

So it is likely the Rugeley TV to Birmingham International will be a WMR service but using an LNR branded 350 which I think is what Realtrains07 was asking.

At International the WMR terminator from Rugeley then looks to form the xx18 LNR through to Liverpool.

To Realtrains07:

Basically it looks like northbound from Euston there is one direct Liverpool, with no splits or joins involved. The other northbound Liverpool is the Birmingham International to Liverpool.

However Southbound, there are two direct hourly Liverpool to Eustons. One is straight through Birmingham with no splits or joins, the other is joined by the train from Crewe via Stoke at the rear, to form a through train to Euston.

That's how I read it anyway but of course posters please correct if mistaken.

No you have pretty much nailed it. On public timetable it shown as separate services the Crewe and Liverpool to euston. Many confusing passengers.

Southbound that shouldn't cause a problem though should it? Birmingham New Street passengers would just know it was the xxxx to Euston. The fact two trains join to form it shouldn't matter.

If two trains join at New Street, the first train at the platform will load full with Birmingham passengers but dare you risk waiting for the second train to arrive?

Only few minutes difference between both sets. It’ll be similar to VT Shrewsbury set coupling at new st.

Which caused chaos and confusion yesterday, as they announced they'd do it on arrival and instead waited for alighting first, resulting in a load of people thinking the New St portion wasn't in use and cramming onto the other half which was already very full.

Appreciate the clarification. You confirmed what i thought from the timetable.

With 1 liverpool train starting at brum international. Guessing their is a train which is going to brum international beforehand somewhere among the timetable?

This does not bode well - Lichfield CITY is on the cross city line (WMR) - Lichfield TRENT VALLEY is the one with the longer trains LNR oops.jpg

Interesting service on the Saturday (and I suspect the Monday) from Euston. For most of the day there are three trains each hour from Euston to

Crewe, Crewe and Crewe!

Each though using different routes - direct via Trent valley; via Northampton, Birmingham, Stafford and direct; via Northampton, Birmingham and Stoke on Trent. The latter has a portion to Rugeley Trent Valley.

With some VT services terminating at Crewe as well, could be an interesting day for uninformed passengers.

What do you mean? All timetable are agreed and confirmed

The train crew diagrams need to be scrutinised by the local union reps to check they are legal (eg: all conform to T&Cs, walking times etc) as well as looking at things like fatigue risk and ways to tweak or balance the jobs out. The crew diagrams can't be issued until the union has scrutinised them and signed them off. While the diagrams relate to the working of the published timetable, the timetable is always published long before local reps get a chance to look at the diagrams. This is normal and happens all over the country at any change to crew diagrams, regardless of whether the timetable is changing.
