Trains were disrupted this morning at St Pancras this morning due to a trespasser.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-47758618

Eurostar passengers face major disruption after a protester caused trains to and from St Pancras International to be suspended.

British Transport Police (BTP) said a man had been in "a precarious position" near the station since Friday evening.

Southeastern services heading towards St Pancras from Faversham and Margate have also been affected.

A man, 44, has been arrested for trespass and obstruction of the railway.

BTP confirmed eyewitness reports the man was waving an English flag.

Can anyone confirm if the withdrawal of Southeastern HS services between St Pancras and Ashford/Faversham was more due to capacity concerns at Stratford Int. than not being able to isolate the power between Stratford and St Pancras?

I'm caught up in this - supposed to be going to France for a long weekend.

My train to Paris was cancelled while I was in the check-in queue. I have a connecting train to catch from Paris Bercy and I don't seem to be able to change my booking online because of this.

Eurostar say to speak to staff at the station (they are a tad busy) so I've decamped to a nearby Costa to call them. Been waiting for 20 mins for an answer so far....

That will be the same for thousands. Hopefully you will be allowed a new connection with no extra costs, but by now the long weekend will be in tatters.

I was once stuck at Schipol when the radar went down and all planes were cancelled indefinately, so got the train to the Hook and ferry from there. All extra costs that weren't refundable by insurance but I got home. In your position I might see if there's a flight today, or even Dover/Calais....but by then the trains could be running again but with a substantial backlog.

Just wait until everyone's passport has to be stamped and Visas/ETIAS's checked on top. Hmmm...

The trespasser on the tracks outside of St Pancras has been apprehended and services will be able to start to run in the area again soon.

We would still recommend you not travel today and please cancel your journey or exchange ticket free of charge.

I got snarled up in this last night. Was trying to get from Chatham to South Woodford via. Stratford International @ 2200. No buses or anything between Ebbsfleet and Stratford, just the solid advice to walk (!) from Ebbsfleet back to Gravesend and get a rattler to Victoria from there. That's one way to turn a 20 minute journey into a two hour one.

Can anyone confirm if the withdrawal of Southeastern HS services between St Pancras and Ashford/Faversham was more due to capacity concerns at Stratford Int. than not being able to isolate the power between Stratford and St Pancras?

I'd be interested to find out the answer to this too..

Understandably St Pancras is in chaos although not the fault of Eurostar. The staff are doing a decent job in very testing circumstances.

As I understand it I am entitled to travel to my destination (Clermont Ferrand) on a different service at no additional cost. For the avoidance of doubt this was all booked through Eurostar as a through journey.

The 08:19 service to Paris tomorrow connects to a train from Paris Bercy arriving in time for the rugby match I’m going to.

I cannot make the amendment on line (suspect due to a connecting train being used). The website says to see station staff (a tad tricky) or to call (no-one’s answering!) I’ve therefore taken the decision to make a new booking (as the 08:19 service is filling up fast).

As I understand it I will be entitled to claim:

The full cost of the New Eurostar ticket I’ve purchased.
The additional ticket from my home station to London International that I will need to purchase tomorrow.
An evoucher for 75% of the original fare as my journey has been delayed by over 3 hours.

I wonder what the chances of getting this sorted without hassle will be?

Why did they tell you to walk from Ebbsfleet to Gravesend (53 minutes per Google maps)when Northfleet station is less than 15 minutes walk from Ebbsfleet and also on the line to Victoria?

That is the location that Ken refers to.
The ECML is below that tunnel structure.

There have been various photos in the media of someone on the roof of St Pancras.

Media have got the wrong photo's then. This male was on the tunnel where HS1 goes over the ECML, Saw it with my own eyes leaving KGX this morning. Emergency services all down on the eastern bore they are currently working on.

Quite a few news outlets have vertically cropped the original photo which can be seen on this tweet. The grass verge above the tunnel is visible further helping to confirm the location as the St. Pancras end of the St. Pancras - Stratford International tunnel. Although the access gate is visibly open, further down in the replies it is mentioned that this was done afterwards so staff/police could get access to negotiate.

Given the tunnel portal goes right over the ECML, it's surprising that was only shut down for a short period. That said, that view is only based on their position in the photo at the time - perhaps after this time they moved towards the end of the tunnel portal itself and away from the ECML?

As I understand it had been on-going from the previous night, I was driving the 0630 KGX-Leeds and could clearly see him as I came out of Gasworks tunnel. I guess they risk assessed it and deemed he wasn't a threat for jumping or disrupting the ECML.

I was going for a long weekend to Venice. I doubt I can get a refund for the train from Paris to Venice, nor the hotel which was a pre-booking, which leaves me £1000s out of pocket :{

You must be absolutely livid! I don't understand why these knuckle-draggers think such behaviour is going to win their cause further support. I guess in this case the target was symbolic.

The remain demo caused chaos as well, trains at my local station were unboardable for much of the day, and a number of roads into London congested, leading to shift workers and others having difficulty getting to and from work.

I think there's a difference between trains being crowded because of a popular event in London (whether that's a demonstration, an exhibition, a sporting event or a royal wedding) and trains being stopped for hours by somebody doing something which is clearly illegal and intended to cause disruption.

Isn't it terrible that major news organisations such as Sky, ITV and the BBC can get their story so wrong.
Just shows what complete incompetents run the media news rooms.

And makes you realise the likelihood that most news stories are factually inaccurate and incorrect. Happens time and time again.

A bit of an overreaction to a minor inaccuracy of the reporting of the location of the incident.

For once railway problems worked out ok for me.

Got to Dover Priory this morning an hour early expecting to have to get the slow train into Charing Cross only to find services reinstated, meaning we got the 1st train into St Pancras an hour earlier than planned.

1st time seeing St Pancras empty of Eurostars was a bit weird. There were none there either this evening at 9.30 either.

But your travel insurance will cover it, surely?
