Can you give us any more info about the fault? Power car or carriage?

Afraid not - all I know is it's not related to the electrical fault found (& fixed) Yesterday. I'm not plugged into the loop - I just see the info on Yammer!

Correct, it's social networking within an organisation.

Good morning. Sorry if I've asked a similar question but are all services to and from Edinburgh and Aberdeen due to be worked by HST's once they've all been refurbished etc, including Saturdays and Sundays?
I know the reason I'm asking is confusing but this is so I can further weigh up my options for travelling from Scotland and to and from Edinburgh and Aberdeen for the first time if this makes sense.

Don't believe so no their are still Scheduled 170s 1 in morning and 1 after 1pm are scheduled. Rest should be hsts but all depends on amount of refurbs and classic sets available.

Once they are all refurbished, the entire 'Inter7City' network will be HST operated - Aberdeen-Glasgow/Edinburgh, Edinburgh/Glasgow - Inverness & Aberdeen - Inverness. This is still a long way off though.

Line speed mainly.
The A2I project will see line speed increases. But the HST project isn't about speed, it's about improving the travelling environment.

And also increase seating capacity. Currently the 0709 INV-ABD is a 158. Once it’s moved over to HST then that will roughly double the amount of seats.
True. Not to mention that keeping a sub-fleet of 170s for just Aberdeen-Inverness services complicates fleet planning.

To be honest, I was at first thinking of a day trip to Dundee by HST whilst on holiday in Edinburgh and Aberdeen whilst in Dundee.
However, I'll instead do Aberdeen whilst in Edinburgh and Inverness whilst in Aberdeen say 2021. That way, I get to make history by arriving into the most northerly city on an HST hopefully

If I have read the post right, you can still visit both Inverness and Aberdeen on HST by using the LNER ex London Kings Cross departures. Unsure if Crosscountry still run HSTs to Aberdeen in normal service.
I don't think so. Just the Voyagers as far as I know.
I believe it's due to reattempt tomorrow to Dundee and then next day Inverness but all going well should have arrived by Wednesday

It's also an end to end journey of over two hours, there is a reasonable amount of through traffic that does the whole journey, so the HST brings a higher level of passenger comfort for such a journey.

Is this still the case? Still no path on RTT as all.
VSTP paths can be added in minutes.
My inside source said yesterday it was gonna reattempt on Monday but again could change by the hour

I'd agree, in some ways it doesn't make a lot of sense just now - having driven an HST on this route a few times, it feels kind of like driving a Ferrari through a City Centre at 20mph! It's more for operational convenience - the dwell times negate any time saving with acceleration. However, once we have the full refurbished fleet, this will get rid of the main issues & the other posters make excellent points as to why A2I SHOULD be an HST service. It struggles badly with capacity at times (particularly with short forming of services just now), also having a separate sub-fleet for part of the Inter7City network doesn't make a lot of operational sense anyway.
To be honest, in some ways, 170s do make sense on the A2I line, but it also makes good operational sense to have it running with HST as well - much easier to diagram, for one thing.
Not sure what the proposals for line speed increases are, but this is definetly needed - the majority of the line East of the River Spey is 60/70mph, which isn't 'InterCity' standard - hopefully with all the track renewal that's gone on & still to be done, this will be addressed. Also, West of the River Spey, it's mainly 75mph, which may have the possibility of being increased in places. Who knows!
