Not at all Christmas-y though this year. Bloody sick to death of it now, it just goes on for too long every year.
Same sentiments apply here as well, for exactly the same reasons. As far as festivals go, ©hristmas® truly gets done to Death in this day and age - And it's no longer the pleasant "surprise" that it used to be... :roll:
Because Christmas helps to cheer people up and take our minds away from the "winter blues." And if we want to start shopping for our presents before 1 DMR, who are you to say otherwise?
I've got absolutely
nothing against people doing their ©hristmas® shopping well in advance - Speaking as someone who normally buys next ©hristmas's presents in the January sales(!) - But I
DO strongly object to shops and businesses trying to kick-start the ©hristmas® season earlier and earlier every year
just to ching higher profits at the tills!
In the U.S, there's an unwritten rule that the ©hristmas® shopping season doesn't start until the Macy's ©hristmas® parade in New York city, which in itself always happens shortly
after Thanksgiving. As a result, the US has (IMO) a much better system where people are only exposed to the heavily commercial side of ©hristmas® for a reasonable one-month period.
Personally though, it interests me
greatly how - With the
real Christmas being a wholly Christian festival that celebrates the birth of Christ (Although I and many others debate the authenticity of that date) - A vast majority of people "jump in" on the celebrations every year...Even though many of them havn't spent a single day in church nor read a single passage of the Bible throughout their entire lives! :roll:
No, I'm not a Scrooge or anything like that, but I'm just pointing out that ye very rarely see non-Jews celebrating
חֲנֻכָּה (Hanukkah) or non-Muslims celebrating
عيد الأضحى (Eid al-Adha), do ye?...
