Northern Unit Refurbishments and depot allocations.

I was on this unit yesterday on the Manchester Stalybridge shuttle, and I was quite impressed; it is the first refurbed 150 unit that I would say is in an "as new" condition.
.... I quite like the carpeted walls (though I don't know why).

I'm on 150123 now and although it doesn't look bad, is certainly not in as new condition.
Has scratches on the internal glass panels, very rattly and the carpeted walls are a bit threadbare in places with oversprayed paint on the edges. It's an ex FGW unit and the carpet is the purple and turquoise they used.

I've since been on another ex-FGW 150 (not yet refurbed) , and the carpet on the wall is, as you said, the same; it was filthy, but there we go.

I didnt recognise the colour as purple (I am colourblind), so I am guessing that to regular people, it clashes with the seats?

It doesn't surprise me that Northern have done the refurb like this, but at least the things are clean when they come out of the works

I think someone posted that around 140 units still need prm work so with 14months left that's 10 a month which I think is considerably more than being achieved with roughly 5 units away at once and months or even years of work on each.
Wonder what plan B is.

Counting up off the last list I make 92 non PRM units including what's in the works. Still 9 a month though to get done.

If/when the bolton line is up and running it might free up some DMUs has most services will go to EMU operation and use the pacers and refurbed DMUs for the diesel work and probably the newbies might make appearances on the rails in the new year as well

I suspect the difference is 92 non PRM units but 140 needing the full Northern treatment. Doing PRM on units a month seems an impossible task on past performance.

Errrrr. There’s 13.5 months left to go until the deadline. I make it around 7 units per month on that basis - remember conversions don’t have to be done by 31/12/19, they just have to be stopped for conversion by then.

Agreed, I've noticed each 155 seems to be done a bit quicker than the previous unit.

Mind you it's the same for all refurbishments though, once the first couple of units are done then the rest don't take as long to complete.

Not to cast aspersions on your contact, but a fleet of just two 3-car units would seem rather pointless. If there was a service which required 2 diagrams there'd be no spare (HUD-SHF is earmarked for 3-car 150s but requires 3 diagrams), and a service requiring only one diagram would mean the other as a spare, which would seem wasteful.
