That’s incorrect.

Only management grades sold off their allowance thanks to TSSA union.

SE allowance remains in place for all signalling grades including new starters. This has gone to top RMT reps and is a NR wide ****up.

Being serious now(!) you might find a G7 "hardcore", but equally, you might not. Plenty of people have gone straight off the street into G7+ jobs. Three of my signalling school classmates were going to G9s.

Don’t be like that. People walk into Grade 9s off the street. If you get the job, signalling school will help you out with learning a small portion of what you need to know. Signal boxes are then training you as an apprentice until you’re competent to pass out. You’re in no rush to pass out and it’s usually a conversation with your LOM who will have spoken and conversed with the people who train you.

Have you been given a date for signalling school yet, i have an application in at the moment and although jumping the gun have been thinking if i was successfull when i would likely to be starting the 12 week course, presume all courses this side of Xmas are now booked?

anyone know what % is needed to pass? also what the tests involve are they just similar to the shl direct tests? just easier I hope

There isn't really a target. You just get compared against everyone else who does the test and applies for that particular role.

Just take your time. Turn off distractions and do your best. It's all you can do.

but I thought I read if you fail you have to wait 6 months before resitting?

Of course. But there's no point aiming or thinking for a percentage because you'll start analysing it during the test.

You might get 60% the way through the test think you've aced every single question up to that point and as far as you are concerned you've passed. Take it easy for the next 40% thus not getting as high of a score as you could have done.

No signaller role is fixed rate as such, your basic salary if your sick of 12 months will be the headline salary of whatever grsde you are.

I thought it seemed strange since no other posts have this didn't seem to make sense to me either

Just screwed up the numerical one catastrophically. 12 out of 18 answered with at least 3 guessed. I revised, practiced and had no distractions. It’s just not how my brain works sadly. Hard to admit but I just don’t think my strengths are aligned to this industry. Not sure how many more times I can put myself through that feeling of incompetence, inadequacy and a smattering of self loathing.
